Restless leg syndrome is often a symptom of obstructive sleep apnea...which can be dangerous.
Those suffering from RLS should make a doctor's appointment...and go from there.

I have it at times. My doc gave me an Rx for Gabapentin (Neurontin). It is very effective for me. One of the warnings on it is that it "may make you drowsy"...which it does. I would never take it during the waking hours. In fact, if I don't take it by 9PM I won't take it all because it makes me groggy in the AM, and that's at 350mg, and at my weight I have been advised by the doc that I could take TWO of them. Never have.
Having said all of that, 2 Advil also works fantastically well for me, without the morning fog.
Good luck with this, it's a real bother when it gets kicking.

Gabapentin was not to agreeable for me. It certainly removed the pain beautifully but within two weeks my legs started retaining water and then started weeping. It wasn't fun. I have some friends who swear by it.
The answer for some relief was a Bi/Pap Machine and Hemp Oil once or twice a week along with Baclofen for spasms and then over an hour on a nebulizer when I wake up. I still have the legs a jumpin sometimes but I know it is about as good as its gonna get.
One other major ticket to the legs quieting down is to pound down the water as much as possible. On the day that I don't drink at least 3/4 of a gallon I'm gonna be dancing instead of sleeping. It took a while to get this combo down. I hope it helps somebody.

I have suffered for many years and for me nothing worked and I have tried everything across the counter & RX. I am told that CBD oil works not willing to go that route yet because of the marijuana content, it’s very small amount but it’s still marijuana. Currently I take gabapentin which is ok not the best

Gabapentin works for me just fine, 400 mg. I had been on it for Sciatica at 2400 mg/day. It's not a narcotic, not habit forming but you do need a Rx for it. Google Gabapentin and judge for yourself, it's recommened for RLS.

I suffer from it and have for years. I use ropinirole 6mg to control at night so I can sleep. Takes little over an hour to take effect and last most of the night.:bigbow:

I take ropinerole as well. But if I take it too late, or on a full stomach and want to go to bed and it hasn’t started working yet, I rub Theraworx (I believe that is how it is spelled). I got it over the counter at Publix. It works so well, that I almost couldn’t believe it. Good luck! I know how miserable it can be.

My doctor in Iowa started me on Tramadol for my RLS and back pain. It is a very mild narcotic. The pain doctor here upped the dosage. I was told originally that it was not habit forming. Now of course they know it is extremely addictive. It works very well but now I am in a fight to get off of it. If anywhere in your search for help a doctor wants you to try Tramadol, RUN!

Have your ferritin levels checked. Your ferritin should be 70-75. You could be low in iron. I also use magnesium oil and rub in on my legs before bed. Get this at health food store like The Green Apple

Sleep apnea can definitely be related. My sleep doctor did blood work to check for anemia. You might want to try some over the counter Vitamin B12 and see how you feel.

Requip prescription. It's a drug for Parkinson's but works well for RL Syndrome. Also, just wearing socks to bed might help.

I have had RLS, still do sometimes but it used to be bad and I was up for hours at night, even had it sitting watching TV. I was anemic which was what the doctor thought was causing it. I was told to take magnesium, helped very little. I don’t like taking drugs unless absolutely necessary. I found Beauty Iron gummies on Amazon after trying a lot of other iron supplements. They do not cause stomach or constipation issues. Just don’t eat or take medicine an hour before or after you take the gummies, and drink a glass of water. The dosage is 3 gummies, I take 4. Doing good on them but once in awhile I still get RLS. I found caffeine brings them on so I avoid it. A few things that work good for me are a ice pack (use till area is super cold), massage biofreeze into the area a few times, last resort I do leg exercises for 15-20 minutes with light leg weights. Those three things seem to work pretty good. Good luck, RLS is not fun.

My wife has very sever RLS now for three years. It has been so sever that she couldn't go to sleep until 4 or 5 o'clock in the morning every night for 3 years. The did a sleep study but the doctors never told till to get back with her . So we have a very wonderful NP who is better than any doctor we've ever visited for 50 years. She sent her to a sleep doctor and he has really helped her. She now takes 1 requip 1 MG, 2 gabapentin 300 MG each at 9pm. Then she takes a sleeping pill, 1 ( temazapam)30 Mg. before she goes to bed. This has really helped her, Good Luck, we know how bad it can be for people. Jan & Jim

I take CBD daily and it's very safe, unlike prescription drugs. s It has helped me in so many ways and restless legs is one of them. It is not marijuana. There are two strains of Cannabis. One is marijuana and the other is Hemp. It is from the hemp plant with less than .03% THC. If you are interested you can check out this site MyDailyChoice:: WELCOME! Some of the prescription drugs, and their side effects prescribed here, are truly frightening.
Research the natural remedies before going for the hard stuff.
Doctors are paid to prescribe, and earn their living from prescribing.
A little research into non life threatening syndromes can prevent a lot of the side effets of prescription drugs.
Just read some of the possible side effects of some of the recommended drug company cures on this post.
I would not touch most of the with a barge pole!

I feel like you're confusing things quite a bit, or getting misinformation.
CBD doesn't "contain" marijuana. Marijuana is not an ingredient in CBD.
It's actually the complete opposite:
CBD is a component of cannabis. Cannabis contains CBD. But that's not all. Cannabis contains lots of components.
The CBD content present in most products is extracted from the hemp plant, which is *not* the plant containing THC. THC is the component that "gets you high." It is not present in hemp plants.

I suffer from time to time, waking in the middle of the night because my legs are running a 100m race against Usain Bolt, it's very common with runners. I've tried stretching in bed until the pain in the muscle resides (in the hope the legs will stop the spasms that can arch my back off of the mattress - it rarely, if ever, works) .... The solution I stumbled across....
WATER !!!!
For me what ALWAYS cures the problem, get up drink one pint of water and go back to bed. Within a few minutes the legs have stopped flinching as have the involuntary spasms, no more sprint races in bed and I am back in the land of zzzz for the night (as is my wife !!!).
This works for me. I am not a doctor and therefore do not advocate anyone already prescribed medication by a doctor to stop. HOWEVER, anyone yet to commence medication could perhaps try this first. If it works happy days, if not then try something else, at least the solution will not have caused you (or your wallet) any harm.
WATER is an amazing drug in fact... Got a cold? Expensive medication? French research conducted over many years testing leading cold and flu remedies found inhaling good old fashioned steam produced better results than any of the leading over the counter cold and flu drugs, and in 2nd place.... Chicken soup....
Like Two Bills says - Doctors are paid to prescribe, as are drug companies - neither make money recomending water (although I could see a case for Dasani getting in on the act!!!).....
In the UK we now starting to see research from Doctors on diet, lifestyle changes and getting active as far better solutions than a concoction of drugs... A view of water is good, sun, and an active lifestyle.... will let you know in 20 years of living the lifestyle in the Villages with a view over a lake on a golf course if the research proves to be true....

RLS is a sign of magnesium (Mg) deficiency. The most easily absorbed Mg is Mg citrate, Mg malate, or Mg threonate. Start with around 400mg per day and get up to even 2500mg per day in smaller divided doses. If you get loose stools, back off and slowly increase again. Also start eating lots of dark greens and put a bit of cider or rice vinegar on them as it helps the absorption of both the calcium and magnesium from the greens. Magnesium is needed when the muscle cells relax and try to unratchet from contraction. If there is not enough Mg you get RLS or muscle spasms. One site that has great info is Mercola.com. Dr Joe Mercola is a doctor who now does not see patients, but advocates for us against pharmaceutical and chemical companies, toxic elements, and such. He has a great daily newsletter. He has now developed a company where he sells all kinds of stuff based on what he has learned thru his current interviews, etc., but his main direction is advocating and educating us. His newsletter is very educational and you can send questions to him. I think he now actually lives in FL somewhere.

I alternate between 3 different prescription medications. I use each one until it becomes ineffective and then switch to the next drug and so on until I’m back to number 1. I can not take Gabapentin, which is the number one choice of prescription medication for this disease, due to other medical issues. I see a Neurologist as required. Since there is no cure for RLS, I find that it is up to me to keep it under control as best I can by being as diligent as possible about the timing and dose of each prescription that I take. I’d be happy to discuss this further with you offline if you’d like.

Ive had RLS for years and years. Heard that potassium helps but that didn't work for me. Been taking various forms of magnesium over the years. On and off. When i stop taking them RLS is back. Just need to skip two days and bang. So magnesium is part of my daily meds. I use magnesium bisglycinate to avoid diarrhea. (Schwartz brand from amazon)

My wife has RLS occasionally and never found a solution until our daughter put us onto a 100% naturally, liposome infused, CBD cream that is 100% free of THC. She swears by it and I used it for a calf injury last week and was astonished on how quickly it eliminated the pain. I see why people are so enthusiastic about these products.

When I first read about doing this...I had a good belly laugh.
After waking up in excruciating pain from leg cramps, even drinking mustard water while half asleep (another supposed cure for cramps), a couple of times a week for months on end, I decided in desperation...to try the bar of soap "voodoo fix."
Even drinking massive amounts of water didn't help, which just made me get up a couple of times per night (not in pain)...to stagger to the bathroom and tinkle.
For more than three years now after putting a bar of Irish Spring between the bottom sheet and mattress cover, not a single incident...of having cramps at night.
Go figure.

A bar of soap is good for leg cramps, never heard of it being used for RLS. As for Mercola, I highly, seriously, profoundly recommend that people not even click on that website at all, ever, not even just for ****s and giggles. It is a quack site known for pushing medical conspiracies, and the "doctor" is known for selling his own brand of overpriced alt-meds and supplements that do nothing at all in some cases - and in others, can potentially cause harm.
To wit: restless leg syndrome has NO known cause at all. It has several potential triggers, but its actual cause is not known. Mercola claims it's caused by magnesium deficiency, which of course he can cure by selling you his magnesium supplement. Meanwhile, magnesium deficiency presents with a variety of symptoms, none of which are restless leg syndrome. However muscle cramps - and tremors - are among those symptoms. RLS is a neurological disorder, not a vitamin deficiency.
If you think you might have a magnesium deficiency, you can get a lab test to find out for sure. If your doctor agrees he will probably check your potassium levels and your current meds, and then he'll make recommendations based on the results.
Taking more magnesium than you need can cause severe diarrhea, nausea, muscle weakness and fatigue. Taking TOO much more can cause death.
Again - I urge everyone to NOT consider Mercola a valid medical resource. It is not, and it can be dangerous.
