I just saw on the golf The Villages website that starting tomorrow Mallory Hill will be closed until further notice. Does anyone know why? It’s unusual for an entire Championship course to be closed during the busy season.

I saw that the Amelia nine is closed until further notice. Is there more?

The scroll on Thevillages.net website says all of Mallory is closed until further notice.

I haven't played there in a very long time, so am wondering if the conditions have become...THAT bad?

My husband is a 10 handicap and played there today. he told me it was a very good idea to close the course. He said the greens were in bad shape.

Hopefully they will replace the greens with the turf used at Tierra Del Sol.

Spread wrong fertilizer on the greens. Just another example of the ineptitude of these people. It would be a perfect time to redo the greens. But do not forget the new grasses cost more so I doubt it will happen. Just too much common sense. As a side played Palmer today. It was OK,seen it better seen it worse.

Played Palmer last Saturday and it was good, but there was a lot of sand on the greens that effected the putting. Not sure why, I know they sand the greens after airification, but the greens are not punched during the winter?

Remember everyone any sports facility above SR44 is of little interest to the Villages Maintenance now.. Its all about Fenney.

I played there last Sunday and the greens were like rolled mud, with some grass showing through. I did make a 100 foot birdie putt though. We had reservations for Amelia, but they changed us to Virginia/Caroline. The rest of the course was in great shape, just the greens that were bad.

Just another statement from someone with no idea about how the villages work. Mallory Maintenance has NOTHING to do with any other place.

They’ve lost the greens

It's the greens. They are nearly grassless with rolled black sand. I understand that Amelia has been closed because of the greens were damaged by an error in chemical application. Maybe the same mistake was made on Virginia and Caroline.

Maybe someone applied the wrong fertilizer!

The greens are in really bad shape and need a lot of work.

I just had lunch at Mallory and an employee just told me that instead of applying fertilizer to the greens they applied weed killer!

That’s why Mallory is closed.

OUCH!

Other Championship courses (other then Cane Garden) don't seem to have the green problems Malory (and Cane) have. Bonifay, Tierra, Lopez, Belle Glade, Glenview all in good to very good condition. Too bad the maintenance teams don't talk.

Played a week or so ago, greens were horrible. They need to fix them. Maybe that is why they are closing it

I talked to the pro shop at Havana yesterday. They said Mallory greens have a mold on them. The whole course is closed.

Understand they used the wrong fertilizer on the greens!

Yes. They have lost 18 greens due to the application of the wrong chemical. If you ask the people actually doing the application they will quickly tell you they have no idea what they are applying. They take the bag or liquid they are told to use and spread it accordingly.

They lost the greens with whatever they sprayed on them
total incompetence
i guess they have no idea how to grow grass just like the fairways its like playing on dirt

Bay Kid said that it's hard to get good help, and I agree.
That would be a good reason for closing Mallory.

My spouse heard that from someone who works there.

Sometimes errors in spraying on golf courses is caused by sabotage by a disgruntled employee. What's in the tank is not what's in the tank. I've seen this happen more than once.

Oh joy, another conspiracy theory simply to avoid...taking responsibility.

100 foot putt? right , you need to go pro! or go to confess at church

I'm going to guess, that you don't even play golf?

Anyone can make a 100' putt.

And it has very little to do with overall skill ("going pro"), because even the "pro's" make an extremely small % of putts of that length and has a lot more to do...with just getting lucky on that particular shot.

Again, it can happen at anytime...with anyone. :ho:

It's easy. Raise the putter up so your main arm is crossing your body, above your chest. Have someone throw the golf ball underhand at you and SWING BATTER, SWING!

It'll go more than 100 feet, guaranteed.
