We want to move to the Villages when our house sells in Jersey. After several visits we found out that the many, many Villagers sell their first home and buy a different one. What reasons can you share with us that made you decide to move, that might help us make a better decision when we are ready to buy??. Our friends purchased and moved within a year, because they wanted more privacy in their backyard. In other words what mistakes can we avoid, and I am sure there are a hundred different opinions about this!

There are absolutely no mistakes to our first home in Hadley. It has all of the things we like, out the back door to the pool at Odell, no one behind us, a roomy Camellia that we think is a pretty house all decorated in a beachy, cottagy way. We have the BEST neighbors anyone could ask for.
We bought it two years ago and have been snowbirds. Now we are planning to move to The Villages full time and we have two houses full of furniture. We are thinking to sell our TV house turnkey and bring our Ohio stuff to a new home, maybe on the golf course this time. Hoping to find a big bedroom for dear daughter who thank heavens is part of us always.
There are strong men here who will move you for fifty dollars an hour. You have all kinds of choices on homes here. Our neighbors will continue to be our friends and since we plan to stay south of 466 they won't be far away.

We found the perfect home for us, made an offer on it and found out they had just signed another contract so we lost out. We purchased another home, closed on it and started to move in. Well the first one became available again. So we decided to buy it and use the first home as a rental property. It seems to work out great, just wish I had a larger garage for my toys.

we bought a cottage close to shopping for an ailing sister of ours thinking she could live easier and cheaper than the left close and that we'd be down there within a few years too.
She then bailed out and decided to stay in CA, so we put it up for rent.
TV friends then encouraged us to get a larger place for ourselves 'one day' .
We looked at a few listings and found an older premiere in an older area at what appeared to be a good value - never even saw it - we had the friends look it over and take a few extra pix and offer an opinion.
We had a local agent make what we thought was a nutty low offer and we were surprised they took it.
We're renting that one too more off than on, and staying a few weeks (in 3 to 4 day trips) a year at both places when empty.
When full we stay with the friends.
We then found a giveaway deal on a place 'touching' the villages with several acres and room for all the toys, but someone rented that for a couple years so the toys will have to stay north.
What's our attraction?
The biking - some of the best pedalling anywhere and great people with whom to ride
When we make the bigger move the larger iron will be heading south too.

We bought our first home and were slowly moving into it, as we still had our house in South Florida. The house was exactly what we wanted, but we were going to build a pool. And, part of the reason for moving to TV, was the golf cart access to most everything you need. The first house had an ok golf cart access location and no pool. I looked on TV web site and there was the house we now have. The house is almost the same as the first, but not quite. But, it has a small swimming pool and is 3 minutes from SS by golf cart. We are no doubt older than you and like the fact that we are so close to everything we need by golf cart, giving us a few extra years of independence. Both homes are Championship golf front, so privacy is really not a problem. Golfers are interested only in their golf.

I have found the reason why people move within TV are for the following reasons 1) house (living space) is too small or they want (need) a golf cart garage, 2) They have a privacy issue and donot want someone directly behind them, (ie now want a golf course lot or a lot with a view), and 3) location for after being here for 6 months or a year they now appreciate what it means to be closer to something they use or appreciate be it a Square, the Learning Center, a particular golf course or simply a Grocery store. TV is VERY large (covers 3 counties) in area and you get to appreciate that after you live here.

I think the above post sums up the three main reasons I have heard for people moving.
A couple of additional items - One person I met moved recently because they had natural gas lines in the attic and they decided to move to a new area that's all electric for safety reasons because of lightening strikes. Also, I've heard of several people who decided to move to a quieter lot because their house was near a golf cart path, a recreation center with pickelball courts or near a country club that had outdoor entertainment and they didn't realize how much noise there would be.

Interesting that someone moved because of gas lines in the attic. If that is a real concern, for a few hundred dollars you could change them to black iron pipes. A direct hit by lightening will blow a hole through your roof and burn your house down if it is gas or electric. Only difference might be it would go a little quicker if it was gas with the current copper piping.
If it is a safety concern, then that says your home when it happens. I hang a wrench just inside the garage door near where the gas meter enters the home. My first action would be to run out there and turn off the gas. Again with a direct hit, not sure it would make any difference in the final outcome. Just the speed to get to that outcome.
I guess different folks worry about different things, but gas pipes in the attic do not make my top 100 issues list.

Our friends and ex neighbors moved because they had a home in Ohio, one in Hilton Head and one on our street in Hadley. They sold their home in Hilton Head and sold the one on our street (in ONE day!!) and built a gorgeous Premier. They plan to spend more time here and their family keeps growing and they want to have enough room for them to visit.

Of the many reasons here are just a few. House is great for part time use but too small for full time. After moving here you get a large inheritance/insurance settlement and can afford more. Want to be closer to stores/pool/town square, etc.. Want privacy and move to CYV or the opposite because too many homes on the block. Because they want a showpiece.
In the case of my cousin he wanted to move because his children were having more children and visiting more often for extended stays. He needed more room and ended up adding two more bedrooms to his existing home.
In our case this is our ninth home so we pretty much know what we like but if I hit the lottery I too will move in a heartbeat.
