Has anyone experienced the theft of contractor signs in their village? Recently several contractor signs that were legally displayed (per TV) were stolen by an individual in a golf cart. The thief had to trespass on several properties in order to steal the signs. Someone in our village also feels as if it their duty to ride around and take the signs left by the yard treatment companies. Someone is treading on thin ice with their trespassing and theft.

The signs left by yard treatment companies are actually pretty important. They warn pet owners that there are chemicals recently placed on the lawn, and maybe they should avoid that property when walking their pet for a few days. Because, y'know, poisoned pooch is bad.

Yesterday they took magnetic signs that were. attached to exit gates. These signs are only there for 24 house or less advising residents of an up coming event in our village.

Wait a minute. Someone attached signs to the gates? Am I understanding that right?

While that's true, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) is required by Chapter 482 F.S., Florida Pest Control Law to regulate size and placement of signs.

That statute reads that signs must be a minimum of 4" x 5" and in place for 24 hours. Those of us that clean our streets of the (advertising) signs blowing over after 24 hours and littering the roadway, often dispose of the signs.

And, the same statute reads that the companies applying liquid fertilizer and pesticides check the current registry of persons, with physician signed affidavits on file, who require prior notification of the application of pesticides.

As one of the above with COPD from industrial pollutants, I can attest that all of the companies DO NOT check with the state. This includes The Villages that apply products as spray to the golf courses WITHIN 1/2 MILE (BY STATUTE) OF ANY REGISTRANT!
