This morning I had on HLN and about 10am I saw a story about coronavirus in TV. They had reporter Martin Savidge live at SS square and then ran about 3 or 4 minute recorded story showing dancing at the squares and a softball game. They talked to a few Villagers and most said it's life as normal, maybe won't go on a cruise. Some said they believe the media is over-blowing the situation. Here's a link to the report.

I'm curious, who wants the sky to fall? are you saying the media wants people to die?

Yes the media. So much created panic.

Yes the media. So much created panic.
And it's getting worse. This morning's local news on ABC had a banner that now states "coronavirus emergency". In the last 40 years we've had swine flu, bird flu, SARS, MERS and I don't remember this degree of media hype. None of these "epidemics" killed anywhere near the average 36,000 deaths/year from Influenza A&B. The media needs to shut up The president needs to shut up. Social media needs to shut up. Let the CDC do its job

I disagree. thank goodness for a free press. we are able to read and then verify what is said. but the benefits of a free press has been demonstrated time and again throughout history.

I absolutely agree in a free press and reporting.
The problem I find with the 'free press' these days, is that in many cases, that instead of just reporting, they are trying to make the news, and at the same time dramatise a story just for effect.
Why is there background music on tv news stations, if not to dramatise a story.

I trust the media far more than politicians.
What scares me, is that it seems most people are easily influenced by both!

Does anyone know how many have died in this country from this virus? Not many. Hint, 1/2 the deaths were in one location. The media only talk about new cases.
How many have died in this country this year from the flu? Not talked about.
The media has created total fear. It is working.

do you think Disney, the NBA, NHL, MLB, March Madness would be shut down if this whole thing was just being caused by the media? these are major businesses set to lose billions of dollars...they must have been made aware of the severity

I don't believe the press or the politicians. They have been lying for years.
