Postal Substation Risky Behavior?

Yesterday there were 2 persons at our postal substation who were approaching residents as they were picking up their mail. They were seeking support and signatures for their cause.
As i parked I noted a gentleman signing the petition and handing the pen back. The man then approached another person whom he engaged in conversation. Again the petition was signed as I was leaving.
There was certainly no "social distance" maintained between these 2 strangers, in fact the confrontations were pretty "in your face" with little more than a foot or 2 between them. The pen had likely been handed back and forth between the canvasser and the persons signing the petition many times.
In our usual environment this behavior would not be cause for concern, the man was pleasant and courteous, no one was being forced to sign the petition.
What alarmed me is the fact that not only was the petitioner placing himself at risk but that person after person cheerfully engaged in close conversation with him and accepted his pen to sign the petition.
I am concerned that Villagers have not changed their behavior and may be risking passing the virus throughout our community.

I don’t think you’re wrong, but everyone is re-thinking EVERY LITTLE THING, and some things don’t occur to us right away. I suppose that’s how a virus spreads.

Just wondering.......does anyone practice "social distancing" during flu season? Flu kills many people too but there is no such thing as social distancing or putting lives on hold like what is happening now.

In my opinion this virus apparently is like no other flu virus. It's characteristic is that once in your respiratory system, (mouth, nose etc.) it nests in your lungs and actually gives you pneumonia. Now we all know pneumonia is a very dangerous disease that has a very high mortality rate especially among the elderly. The other characteristic is that it is Highly contagious. Yes this part is the same as other flus but the other flus don't have the pneumonia factor.

Sort of true, so let's modify the statement to make it accurate.

"Regular" influenza can lead to a secondary BACTERIAL pneumonia, which is what most victims die from, especially in 1918-1919 when there were no antibiotics.

COVID-19 can infect the lungs and give the victim a VIRAL pneumonia, which is a totally different beast and can lead to ARDS, which is what eventually kills you
