Anytime someone has a compliment about an A/C company, compares prices between companies, especially installation of a new system, or needs a repair done quickly and at the best price, it's usually Chuck Farrells AC & Heating 352-753-9497 mentioned the most.

I have never hired a company to do annual servicing on my HVAC system. I replace the filters regularly, pour vinegar down the condensate drain, and check the condenser coil (outside unit) for dirt. These are easy things to do. I especially do not pay in advance for possible repairs. When your system fails, there are many good companies in The Villages who will come and repair your system within a few hours. If you have a maintenance agreement, you are locked in to a specific company who may or may not be responsive to your needs. And, there is really nothing that an HVAC technician can do annually to prevent your system from breaking down. If it's not broken, don't fix it. My opinion.

To follow up on what Retiredguy123 said, I to have never had a service contract. My Carrier unit is 9 years old and I replace the filters annually. They are $50 for 3 filters if you order them through Amazon. Also pour vinegar down the condensation tube in the A/C months. My neighbor has Munn's service his unit and they charge him $150 a year to come out and replace the filter and check the unit.
My unit has had two problems in the 9 years. Someone posted that they called Munn's and they were told their only 2 year old unit needed a new capacitor and was charged $313. Someone else posted they should of called Chuck Farrell. My unit went out about a week later when it was 3 years old and I remembered that post and called Chuck Farrell. They came out within 2 hours of calling, he didn't know me and I didn't know him. He checked the inside air handler, and then outside the freon and the capacitor and said, your capacitor has gone out. He said, since your unit is less than ten years old, the capacitor is covered by a warrantly and it's just $75 service charge.
Next problem was a year ago, when the unit was 8 years old, it quit cooling. I called Chuck Farrell and they once again came out within an hour or two and looked the unit over and said your blower has gone out. He called his office and ordered a new blower and said he will have it by tomorrow. I asked about what about in the meantime. He said I carry a spare and put the spare in the unit and it started right up cooling. The next day they called and came out and put in a new blower fan and charged $175 total parts and 2 visits. If you noticed on my previous post I had 4 links to past threads. One link was to a thread where someone said Munn's wanted $333 to clean his coils and blower. I got a brand new blower replaced for $175 and that included two visits and use of a spare blower. You can't beat Chuck Farrell.

If you want the best go with Munn. They are very professional and thorough, but not the least expensive. There are others that are less but I have had terrible service from a couple and will now use no one but Munn. Just my .02

I have used Sunshine for the past 9 years. They installed the unit in 2009 when the house was built. I have an annual service contract with them and have only replaced two capacitors in all that time. No other problems with the unit.

I am also one of those who sees no value in paying for an annual service. Change the filter regularly, keep the outside unit clean, and pour vinegar followed by hot water down the condensate pipe every couple of months. Listen for strange noises, etc.
I googled "Should you pay for annual air conditioner service". Almost every link was for a service company warning that a costly repair awaits anyone who does not pay them to come out once a year. Here is the one neutral opinion that I could find.

Vinegar eats away the pipe cement over time. Use a gallon of plain hot water which you may add 2-3 drops of Dawn if you want once a month.

If you bought a new home, the company who installed it will service it. If it is a pre-owned home, you could ask the previous owner also.

All of the names listed for service are good Being new here I would suggest you contact one of them and start with a service call to check it out

Chuck's Main Guy just did the one year maintenance on our unit and gave it his blessing and showed me where the Capacitors are in case it breaks on the weekend. I can handle it I think. If I stop posting then you know I was wrong. Ordering them was simple on Amazon. Finding them when needed may be another issue.

Good luck. Anyone trying to replace their own HVAC capacitor needs to be very careful. Replacing a capacitor is not difficult, but it can be risky if you don't discharge it correctly. It is not typically a DIY project.
