Schools out & lots of people intend to visit their parents for a low cost vacation in TV, tell everyone from out of the area to stay away from TV--it might be the most expensive visit ever--they may not have any symptoms, but they've not been tested & children are not that hygiene savy

You don't need a guest pass to enter TV, just push the red button and you're in. You don't need a guest pass to visit someone in TV, they pull onto your driveway and ring your door bell. You don't need a pass to stay overnight with a family living in TV.
"Passes? We ain't got no passes. We don't need no passes. I don't have to show you any stinkin' passes!"

We seniors need to take care of ourselves.
In the first place, don't get near other people. Don't have any other people come into your house. If you touch any surface outside of our house, wash your hands.

Perhaps "the management" could suspend/cancel all guest passes? Just sayin' Maybe "the management" should have shut down the restaurants who had people crowded in shoulder to shoulder in the outside seating in LSL today (no idea about inside) and THEN worry about the impossible task of preventing "outsiders" into public areas and private homes. It's TERRIBLE for business but one has to realize what's happening. City Fire (gee, what a surprise), Red Sauce & Gator's were most obviously overcrowded. Yea, it was St Patricks Day but I don't think the Good Saint Paddy would want this. If just ONE person had this virus in those places it would explode all around here. Support your local restaurants but do takeout. Even the Country Clubs being opened today was a big surprise considering the Villages shut down so much other stuff.

The management doesn't own those restaurants. They have no authority to close them down. The state has ordered a reduction in max capacity in all restaurants and a closure of all bars that serve more than a certain percentage of their customers with alcohol (so a bar that exists primarily as a bar, with food being a secondary source of revenue).
I think the idea of temporarily rescinding access to amenities for anyone with a guest pass might be a good idea. There are a lot of people who don't live in the Villages, not even as snowbirds, who come and visit and use the amenities, they come from out of state, some even from out of the country, visiting residents (part and full time, owners and tenants). Now that the squares are closed, and the indoor rec center activities are cancelled, and the theatres and performance centers are closed, what do you think all these visitors would be DOING all day?
They'd be using the OTHER amenities, more than usual, crowding the pools, crowding the bocce and horseshoe courts, crowding the golf courses, etc. etc.
The whole point of closing this other stuff down is to reduce crowding.
So the best thing to do is to just tell everyone hey - I know it's spring break. I get that your grandkids have no school til at least mid-april, if not for the rest of the year. But you gotta tell your kids and grandkids that this is a BAD time to come visit.
It's not safe for them, it's not safe for you, it's not safe for anyone else who lives here.

If you want to live under a “police state”, maybe management should lock all the gates and not allow anyone in or out??
Sounds like a caged snow bird to me.
If they lock the “red button” imagine the line at the gates while management asks where the visitor is going, who are they visiting, have they had any of the symptoms of the virus, etc, etc. Maybe management should ask the residents the same question as they enter TV from who knows where. How would that work for everyone?

Totally disagree with you. This virus has spread to virtually every country in the world in just weeks. It's just getting started. It's obviously highly contagious. Our greatest exposure now is from people flying in to be guests. They might get it on the plane ride in. The best way to kill this thing is to severely limit contact with others until it passes.

In some places, but the number of new cases in China and S. Korea where it was first reported is rapidly on the decline. This may be due to the restrictions and testing they enacted, or it might just be the natural history of this pandemic. It will peak and then fizzle out, what we're trying to do is flatten the peak

Wow, that's draconian but rather necessary. The notice shows
"Beginning at 2:00 p.m., checkpoints will be established at entry points to Dare County and no visitors will be allowed access. Permanent residents, non-resident property owners and non-resident employees of Dare County businesses may review entry guidelines at Entry | Dare County, NC (http://www.darenc.com/entry). Reentry permits from previous years will not be accepted. Staff is working to activate the online permitting system by 1:00 p.m. "
Being from North Carolina, and have visited the Outer Banks many times, Dare County has always been a close community with residents tracing their ancestry back to the 17th century. Many full-time residents are extremely providential and proud of it.
I understand their concern, particularly the impact on their infrastructure.
IMO, this is just a start of a necessary trend in "protecting our own".

Yes, IT IS Draconian
No, it probably isn't Necessary
Question---Does a COUNTY have the authority to do this? What if they are closing off a STATE highway? What about a US highway or Interstate? Aren't they in essence turning a roadway that is paid for by state or federal taxpayers into a private road for that county's citizens. Probably doesn't matter---by the time it gets litigated, COVID-19 will be a distant memory

If I read it correctly, the OP suggested that Villagers tell visitors not to come. OP did NOT suggest any draconian measures, and again, I agree with OP.
What, may I ask, would visitors do? Maybe swimming, golfing, and walking. Minimal restaurant/entertainment opportunities.
Are they incubating germs without symptoms (yet)?
This morning, I went to Quest for a blood test. A woman was there with her teen aged son, who sneezed into his hand, wiped his hand on his shirt, then held his face in his hand while he read his iPhone. I am making the assumption that they live in the area and not visiting. The behavior is bad enough without compounding the problem by allowing visitors to come down here.

Sadly we do need some restrictions here, some folk do what they like all the time, regardless of their agreement to toe the line when they live here. Its about "attitude" . That does not help in such times as these. I am sure this will not be the last "VIRUS" like this.... with over medicating every sniffle and ache, the bugs are eating it up and becoming more immune each year. Time to re-think this.

According to the CDC, in 2017 there were 7,700 deaths by auto accident in the 65+ age group. I can't imagine that ALL seniors would voluntarily hang up their car keys and give up driving to save lives. Should the government step in and forcefully take away driver's licenses from drivers who are putting us all at risk? Living in a free society is not for wimps, for sure.

There are villagers who don't cook or are not good cooks, who came to live here partly because of the variety of food available to them that they didn't have to cook themselves.
That is why there are so many places to eat in the Villages and surrounding areas; there are thousands of people who would rather eat out than try to figure out how to bake a chicken for the first time in all their 70+ years of life.
As for your either/or situation - there are plenty of people who are financially sound, who can afford to get take-out from a food truck a couple times a week.
However, there will be 5-10 more people collecting unemployment, applying for welfare checks and food stamps, if that food truck goes out of business due to lack of revenue.
It is not the food truck's responsibility to tell their customers to keep an arm's-length distance from each other in line. It is the customer's responsibility to do that.
That said - it might not be a bad idea if there was a Villages employee whose job it is to hand out numbers for customers (so the customers don't have to cluster around the number table). There's a PA system in the town squares that isn't being used now that the entertainment is shut down. They can use it to announce the next number in line. That way, customers can mill around, keeping their distance from each other but still be in the premises - sit on one of the benches, read a book by the gazebos, stand near the fountain with their spouses..and when their number is called, they go up and place their order without having to push through any lines.
But again, it's not the responsibility of the Villages or the food truck owners to come up with and implement this idea. If you think it's a good idea, maybe you could bring it up to the Villages - or the food truck owner.

Technically, I think you’re correct. However, while the body develops antibodies, at the same time the effect of the virus causes those at risk to have an overwhelming reaction and develop pneumonia faster than antibodies can protect them. So, you end up with a person with lots of antibodies, but dying.

The first personal computer was an Altair, introduced in 1975. Anyone who is 85 years old today would have been 40 years old then. That means they would have been working age. That also means they would likely have had some exposure to computers, even then. If you don't recognize that brand and are sure the majority of people would never have heard of it - that's fine. The next wave of personal computers was 2 years later with the Apple II in 1977.
Seniors who have had zero computer experience, at this point in technology, have chosen to have zero computer experience. Computer technology has been going on all around them for the past 50 years and in fact the inventor of the PC is older than most of them. So there's no "excuse" for Villagers to have no understanding of computers. You can even go to the Savannah center and use one of theirs to learn how, and there are computer clubs that are happy to teach you at any of their instructional meetings.
They don't know because they have chosen not to know. They've had 50 years to make that choice.

Do we really need "the management" to decide what we and our families should do to remain safe? News Flash, some residents here in The Villages are pretty sharp mentally, still.
Our Federal and local governments are governing and enforcing laws to keep us safe. It is very evident to me from seeing what is happening here that there are those who are not savy and are putting everyone at risk. Seems some of these folks have not gotten the memo.

I don't know if this is true--rumor has it ,that Italy will not treat virus patients over the age of 80
It isn't that they WILL not but CAN not. The doctors are having to triage who gets the ventilator and who does not. Age is a major criteria. Younger folks who can beat this thing are given priority for ventilators. The older folks who don't have a snowball's chance in hell are left to die. Very sad but that is the reality in Italy. Hope it doesn't become a reality here in America.

My understanding of a healthy immune system is the body will attack anything that is foreign. That's what the immune system does. People that are exposed to this virus do develop antibodies. They become immune after being exposed to this virus.
I don't think they know enough to state that you become immune after being exposed. A good percentage of seasonal colds are due to coronaviruses and obviously you don't develop immunity to those.
If we don't develop immunity - that would simply add to the challenges of this virus.

Your immune system kicks in to combat the common cold viruses. Immunity is the result for that one specific virus. There are MANY common cold corona viruses that attack us humans. Personally, I can count on one hand the amount of times I have had a common cold in all my 70 years. I've never had the flu. I guess my immune system has kept me safe all these years. Just hope it is still up to snuff to combat this new virus out there.
This article may help to explain about developing immunity to the common cold corona viruses.........

Just read your post again. It has been stated by at least one infectious disease expert (don't remember which one) that humans do develop immunity to this virus if you have a normal immune system.

They are in a state of emergency and do have the power. In that area, this is commonly done before and after hurricanes
