Brakes squeaking/squealing during slow stops

I have a Yamaha 2017 Drive 2 cart I recently purchased. The brakes make a squeaky/squealing noise when braking at low speeds. Is there a way to stop this? Do I need to replace the brake pads? If so, do they make different types - i.e. ceramic pads reduce dust and noise on a car.

disk or drum brakes? If drum they just might be dirty from brake dust and just need cleaning? You will have to inspect them see what you find out? They may just be worn out? And pads need to be replaced?

My 2017 did the same thing. Drum Brakes = dust. Helps if when you wash your cart, spray the wheels from the inside. I think the 2017s are pretty close to lemons. At least in my case it is.

they put brakes back on outer axles, be thankful you don’t have ones the got internal brakes inside the transaxle. But, good thing the internal wet brakes last long, long, long time as long as you change the transaxle gear oil every 4 or so years depending on use.

The rear drum breaks get a glaze built up on the pads at times. This may sound strange but if you drive in reverse about 10 mph and hit the brakes it will take some of the glaze off. You may have to do it 3-4 times but it does work.

IMO as much as Yamaha golf cart costs it should have disk brakes on all 4 wheels.

The glaze will come off my sanding/grinding it off or by heat.

ALL golf carts sold in The Villages should be required to have 4 wheel disc brakes.

I also have a 2017 Yamaha with squealing brakes, I just took off the wheels and brakes, and yes there was some dust, put back together, and no noise....

It's part of the annual service that Todd Casey does on our golf carts for us. He, or one of his service technicians, takes off each wheel and blows out the brakes with an air compressor. I have watched them do it, and a lot of dust goes a flying.

Improperly adjusted brakes will cause the pads to glaze and cause the noise. It can also cause the pads to wear more in a particular spot and cause more dust. Many times, just cleaning out the dust but not properly adjusting the brakes will cause the noise to return.
