I made a quick trip to a store yesterday and noticed that the volume of the speakers broadcasting the Villages Radio Station was significantly up. On the way home I did a quick "around the square" and there were people dancing. Then, on the way home down Buena Vista, I noticed that the "Watch the Sunset Groups" were there in force, very together, and enjoying life. No social distancing there or on the Square! Just an observation from someone who has been camped out in his house going on two weeks now. BTW, before the snark starts, my hearing is excellent.

Sad that people won't take seriously what they should. The fact they have such disregard for the health of others if they don't care about it on a personal level is unreal. But then again, we ARE the generation that remembers "chickenpox and measles" sessions where some of mom's actually exposed their kiddos to others that had it BEFORE school age trying to ensure it would not cause you to miss 10-14 days of school.

Back in day I was sent to my cousins to catch chicken pox.
Caught it, came home and gave it to my father, who thought he had had it when young.
He hadn't, and he had a dreadfull time with it.
Our family doctor recommended he scratch scabs and then rub vineger in them!
Absolutely true.

Since this thread is about speakers in the town squares, saves me I think from starting a new thread. I just read the hyphen news article about businesses closing in the squares due to the virus. All good and well. The very end, MS META MINTON described the music playing from WVLG on the empty squares as
******* EERILY MAOIST ******* Whatever vendetta this woman has against the developer has clouded her judgement to the point she is seriously demeaning Villagers and our choice to live in an awesome environment.
We will survive this virus, and be stronger as a country and community. But this disease that affects Ms. Minton can only be addressed by her and mental health professionals. In my ten years here, I've never heard or seen anything that pi $$ed me off nearly as much as this description of OUR town square!!!

I noticed the line dancers dancing to the radio. They were well spaced six feet apart (think of them all spreading their arms and still not touching) and I was thinking what a great way to get some exercising in while staying safe.

I thought it was a typo. Did she really meant to write that?

I am looking for opinions. We have stopped doing everything, including social distancing. How does everyone feel about playing golf? We have our own golf cart and clubs and we keep the flag in.

With less people less golf carts or cars to absorb the noise it would see louder

I don't think the speakers are high, I think it is the reduction in road noise just makes it seems that wey.

Perhaps I was in the group "guilty" of sunset watching off Buena Vista. A group decided we needed some sanity and brought carts to Glenview entrance for a couple of hours of socializing. Social distancing was responsibly practiced. People kept carts more than 6 feet apart and brought their own snacks, no sharing. Some chairs were set up at 6 feet apart as well. I understand how people from a distance would have thought us to be irresponsible but we were not. Life needs to go on, just be careful and follow the rules.

We played Havana yesterday and plan on playing with the Wednesday boys at Eagle Ridge on Wednesday and Thursday at Sarasota......

Ambassadors say that the topic of closing the golf courses comes up during their meetings......

I certainly hope they don’t..... that’s about one of the last of the outdoor activities left !!!

I wasn't sure if the volume was up or it just sounded louder because virtually all of the typical ambient noise was gone.

I think you should keep doing whatever you feel like doing.

Just keep your distance from other people.

You are so right. Been home too and it makes us angry when there are those of us so immature that they can’t control themselves and stay home.

I’m impressed by the dancers that come to dance. Plenty of room to stay away from each other. Lots of hand sanitizers in evidence.
People being polite when walking.
Common sense and being mindful.

wtf??

Go to the Villages hyphen News site and look for the article on ghostly town squares, then decide for yourself how you feel about the description at the end of the story.

In my opinion, TV should shut OFF all speakers which is certainly fostering the idiots to dance and not stay at home like the rest of us.

I don’t understand. In California my daughters are encouraged by the health department to keep up their outdoor exercise routine, just make it safe. Keep a distance of 6 feet from others. Don’t touch others, don’t touch your face, try not to touch anything else, wash you hands before you go out and when you come home.

If these dancers are following those rules I don’t see a problem.

My personal opinion is ....everything should be cancelled, if they cancel activities then golf should also be cancelled . The restraunts also should of been closed, what a disaster for spreading anything up to and including the flu. I'm not saying this to make anyone angry or start a bashing against my opinion.
