I'm not surprised.

There is a thread on TOTV titled, "Spring breakers got it !!!!" I think this thread ought to be titled, "Pickleballers got it."

To me, the gloves were meaningless. He was expelling the virus from his mouth via his saliva as he exerted himslef while playing the game.

God help his fellow players and friends.

They have a web site, but it's very minimal. They don't give a phone number, and their "contact" link doesn't work.

If you still have the email, it would be helpful if you could copy and post the pertinent part. Or supply a phone number or email address.

I receive Email from that club and check the Facebook page and web site regularly. I have seen so such Email. Perhaps I just missed it but my guess is this is just a rumor.

So when you go to store or gas station how many do you think are infected and needing supplies? Nobody can last 14 days in their house that’s been exposed. The problem anywhere down around 466A overcrowded.

Look I posted my comments as FYI nothing more. I received an email from the President of the Pickleball Club to " All Current Members " all I am is just trying to be helpful .

You want to believe it or not … up to you however this is not a rumor. As you will find out.

It was a couple who returned from a cruise .

And please forget the eventual to me " I'm Sorry " . I didn't realize etc. For those who got up in this I feel really bad for you.

For the person who played ? Totally Irresponsible. The person in question is a rated 4.5 player .

I have said enough. I posted this as a FYI, honestly I'm not surprised at the reactions.

PS: I do not and have never played @ Burnsed.

Talk to the Pickleball President, and again forget the apologizes when he confirms what I said. !!

From the President of The Villages Pickleball Ball, March 23rd

"About a dozen members rightly have asked what rec center was the player on who came down with the Coronavirus, since they might have played on those courts later in the day. They wondered if they might have touched a ball he played with. While I have no idea how long a virus survives on plastic, it seemed wise to send out what is known. The rec center was Burnsed and he played Monday and Tuesday of this past week. He wore gloves on both days and did not touch the gate handle on either day both entering and leaving."

Not doubting as anything is possible, perhaps probable, but people ask for links or sources all the time due the misinformation out there on all topics. Okay, so we now hear the email is dated March 23rd. What is the President's name who sent it, to be contacted? Or the email address it came from? Or as was suggested, just cut and paste the content. OP could have simply come back with more information instead of responding so defensively. It was not an unreasonable request.

In the words of Col. Sherman Potter: "Horse hockey!" If any pickleballer had tested positive TV would have shut down ALL sports courts. And that news would have been officially published somewhere, like the villagenews.com or elsewhere. Passive voice intros like "It has been reported..." supposedly absolve the OP from providing a reference. Notice not one person who agreed with the OP could/would provide copy from this alleged email.

Here's a reference from the pickleball web site:

Announcements - Play Pickleball-B Forever Young (https://pickleballcommunity.com/announcements.html)

Notice no mention of infection. Also, in the Rec News section of today's Daily Sun, there is an article about how the pickleball courts are one of the few rec options still open to us, although they officially are discouraging play.

Until someone posts something external to opinion, including email headers if they are used, this is just the spreading of another unsubstantiated rumor.

I'm not sure what the point of your post is? You are mysteriously talking about somebody that you supposedly know specifically but will not name? Why? This is not a time for secrets. Who are you protecting?

I personally know a 4.5 player who wears gloves and plays at Burnsed all the time. I have emailed him directly to ask if he has heard anything about this. Whatever information he gives me I will post here.

PLEASE remember, we are all in this boat together. Anybody that has actual information, should share every detail of it. It could save somebody's life, scratch that, several lives. If however you are just trying to pass on unverified rumors and or scare people, why would you do that? That's very cruel. I hope in the future people will at least go on the internet and try to verify the information with several different sources, before they post it.

That's my two cents, it's worth what you paid for it.

Good luck to us all...

My wife and I and all of our friends are doing it. It’s not that you “can’t” stay in the house, it’s that you don’t want to. If everyone had taken these restrictions seriously to begin with the virus would not have spread even as far as it has. I don’t personally know any of the deceased, and I want to keep it that way. At the very least, I don’t want to wonder later if my actions led to someone else’s death. But of course, you and others of like mind know better than the CDC, WHO, and local health professionals.

Did he wear a mask? If he coughed you all are in trouble Better gat checked.
Only way to be safe is wear a hat to cover your neck and part of the face. Then wear a mask, glasses to cover your eyes & gloves. I also carry Clorox wipes to touch things like gas pump handle & door knobs. You have to keep yourself safe.

Gloves will do nothing if you come face to face with an infected person and they cough, sneeze, or talk to you. (you spit a little when you talk). Also, with gloves on, you still transfer to other objects. Think about it, you have gloves on, play pickle ball, touch rackets and other things, put in your car, then remove gloves and go home. If you touched something with germs on it and put it in your car, guess what you will pick up when you go home and remove objects? Pretty simple. Answer is, stop playing for a bit. Again, simple.

There is no excuse for socially irresponsible behavior.

Seems to me the risk isn’t that someone who feels sick is playing pickle ball. I like to think they would stay home for several reasons. The risk is that someone who is sick and isn’t yet showing symptoms/doesn’t know it plays.

We all need to behave as if we are sick and just don’t know it yet, to protect others, and those others will contact.

When I’ve played Pickleball before it stopped, I assumed everyone else was infected. I wore two gloves and someone brought a pail of water with pine sol to keep the balls in. I stayed 6 feet away from people on the bench. As soon as it ended I used wipes on my gloves, hands and paddle, and then washed my hands. When I got home I left my shoes in the garage, left my clothes in a pile and showered. After a couple of days I washed the clothes (so I didn’t touch them for a couple of days to let any potential virus die on its own). That was weeks ago and I’m fine so far, so I know I’m clean from it, whether they were infected or not.

Life doesn’t have to stop completely. We can go out. Just follow the guidelines and assume you and everyone else is infected.

What the hell have you got to lose? :icon_wink:

Debbraham
03-26-2020, 03:29 PM
There are about 4-8 of us playing pickleball...we had all stayed inside our homes for 14 days and have not had any symptoms, so we have started playing together again. Not everyone is just being irresponsible and going out...but after 14 days, I think we can go out with social distancing with like minded people. We still take precautions and bring our own chairs and disinfectant and do not fist bump...just say good game and go disinfect!

DON10E
03-26-2020, 10:15 PM
It’s a hypothetical that isn’t relevant (no disrespect) because we can’t know if someone is infective (unless they’re symptomatic and wouldn’t then play).

Here’s a different question. If you knew someone wasn’t infected would you NOT play with them?

Also not relevant.

I’ve been i house for over two weeks with bad back. So I guess I am good go! But, I still won’t play with someone I don’t know or where they been. Hence the guy that played without staying away from people for two weeks knowing he just arrived from who knows where. Who am I fooling my back not going to let me play anyway.

Another problem I see planes one after another approaching Orlando , you can bet some are infected and the cycle starts all over. IMO it’s not going to get better in two weeks. The count today in Sumter county I think I heard on the news 25 that’s doubled from yesterday. Would want to bet it will double again before the weekend over?
