And I quote ->
Please be advised of the upcoming significant project that will occur in Lake Sumter Landing of The Villages. If you should have questions please contact – Blair Bean Asst. Director or Chris Cash, DPM Manager Town Center Division at 352 753 4022.
The Town Squares Division of District Property Management (DPM) is pleased to announce the commencement of the Lake Sumter Landing project to install new shade structures on Market Square. This project will greatly improve the experience for our residents and guests when we are able to resume entertainment on the square. In order to facilitate the project it is anticipated portions of the square as well as parking areas around the square will be closed for the safety of our patrons and workers. Closures to the public are anticipated to begin Wednesday April 1, 2020 with a project completion by mid-April 2020.
Also initiating in mid-April completing late April 2020, the Town Squares Division will be temporarily closing access roads, main roadways and parking areas within the Sumter Landing town center to provide new roadway pavement markings. Maintenance of traffic for this work may include temporary detours. As part of the temporary traffic control, signage and cones will be in place to provide direction for the travelling public and protection for the workers and the residents.
Please slow down and drive safely through these areas to protect staff, the contractor and residents.

In the photo, notice two persons sitting on a bench, definitely closer than 6'--the bench is directly across from Starbucks--people gotta have their daily coffee get together

MAYBE is as good as guess as mine; however, the one thing for sake if they are contaminated so is the bench and what about people who sat on those benches, earlier--those benches are being sanitized

The fence was erected to keep that couple from getting out.

Good grief!!! See post #3, or the VCDD website, and you'll see why the fences are up.

Seems to me it is a very good time to get the shade
project done, but you can be sure the
distancing police will be making their rounds
to check on the workers!

You have to hand it to the Developer. What a really smart way to keep people out of the Square at this time, without really having to tell them to get out!

FYI - The Starbucks has been closed for almost two weeks now. They do not have a drive through window and therefore were not allowed to be open.

:ohdear: Ever hear of Spanish Springs or Brownwood? Maybe you two are over thinking this and it is normal/scheduled maintainence. Maybe? Oh and by the way, you do know the developer doesn't own the Squares.....right?

This is now moot--the Governor has just shut down the squares, guess he saw something on the pictures that have been posted @ least he was not in denial

...the Governor has just shut down the squares...
He did no such thing.
LSL is fenced off. Haven't even heard about any fencing for the other squares. The governor issued a stay at home order, which as for all stay at home orders will have exceptions. He did not "shut down the squares".

Um....yes he did! Meaning the Governor shutting down the state, except for essential businesses. It's been all over the news this afternoon. Effective Friday!!

This has nothing to do with the developer, the square is owned by the local government, SLCDD, and this a project they are taking on. Learn a little about The Villages and how it is run before making comments like this.

Um....yes he did!...
Um...no, he did not.
I’m aware of his stay at home order. Big difference.
The details of the order are supposed to be released later today. Exceptions will almost certainly include solo exercise.
Then keep an eye out for the bikers, walkers, etc who will still be passing...perfectly legally...through the squares. Outside the fencing of course (so far at LSL only), but still in the squares.

I think they are doing it now because of the current situation. Good use of the time for a project they have been wanting to get done.
