I have played the Champ courses for the last eight and one half years. I played twice this week and we practiced social distancing in both groups. Yesterday on Cane Garden I saw a group that had just finished and they were all sitting under a tree next to the first tee with most outside of their carts and no more that two to three feet apart. I live on Belle Glade and while walking my dog I noticed a foursome with four carts all standing on the T box no more than three to four feet from each other. Next I saw two women waiting to T off not more than two feet from each other in a conversation. If you want the golf courses to be CLOSED then keep it up. I guarantee you the powers to be are watching. I love golf and it is the main reason we moved here but some are just not caring or not listening to the rules of the Governor and our POTUS. Practice social distancing! :ohdear:

Yes, personal distances is something that has to thought about constantly. If you don’t, natural habit automatically returns.

Maybe they're "thinking" that because they're outside they're safe. I know that we're being serious at our house about this thing. Just listened to the new daily update not too long ago---we NEED to be serious! Just had a thought...maybe you or someone here, who golfs, needs to post on the other local social media sites just reminding people it's not about them.

Agree!

I played TDS today and the guy (6 feet) ahead of me on line had to have social distancing explained to him---twice!! (DOH). The staffer also mentioned that the people living in the homes on the course are busy taking pictures of golfers whom are too close, at least in their estimation.

This is not rocket science. Golf management has set it up so you can pay for your round and sign in without touching anything or getting inside 6 feet. Play you round as usual, just take 4 carts and stay 6 feet away from each other. You're playing on a 150+ acre field, surely 4 people can stay 6 feet away from each other.

As far as the Cecil B. Demills go, there are probably 3 types:
a) people who are so paranoid that they think if 2 golfers get 5' 11 1/2" from each other they are both going to get the virus, and then spread it to them in the grocery store, and then they are going to die. I'll refrain from calling them names because they are simply paralyzed with fear----they won't admit it, instead they post how they are saving lives
b) people who have been closed out of their favorite activity so they want others to lose theirs. Them I'll call idiots and worse
c) the usual small core of Villagers that are always miserable and complaining, so this just gives them something new to gripe about

Is this right, no, but it is the reality. You can be sure these Ansel Adams wannabees will be busy sending in their pictures to the powers that be in an effort to get golf closed down. Sad, because 99% of the golfers are following the rules, but drive through neighborhoods and past park and there are tons of non-golfers congregating. Maybe they should point their cameras in that direction. The only person who I asked WHY they take pictures stated it was to "shame" these people. Pretty lame, does she really think that people who are congregating in defiance of an executive order from the governor of Florida would be all broken up by her "shaming" of them. Get real.

So bottom line, golfers, just follow instructions signing in and stay 6 feet away from each other. PLEASE!

I believe you are referring to a post I made a couple of days ago answering the question of why would anyone take photos of people who are not adhering to social distancing. The six feet is to be safe from someone sneezing or coughing. The virus is passed in droplet form. Someone who spits when they talk can also pass it. Mind the six feet, but it's not liked the virus is floating in the air and you'll automatically get it by being less than 6 feet from someone.

You need total lockdown. The only way to stop the spread & have the possibility of the virus having no where to go.

At Evans Prairie yesterday it seemed all we’re practicing good social distancing. Unfortunately this is not always the case. Some people just don’t get it. It is not that hard to stay 6 feet apart.

The scientists are now saying that evidence is indicating that people are being exposed to Coronavirus from airborne transmission, not just particulates. This virus changes, plus they are still learning about it. It takes time. I believe you’re better off assuming it stays in the air for awhile and take those precautions. Do you really want to be on the wrong end of this learning curve?

The latest study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine clearly demonstrates airborne virus for over an hour. I love golf, and want to live to play another day. Here is a clip from the study abstract. We can benefit from what these medical researchers have learned, and stay home, or we can wait for the result of our study called ‘Let’s play golf as usual in the villages and see what happens’

“ SARS-CoV-2 remained viable in aerosols throughout the duration of our experiment (3 hours), with a reduction in infectious titer from 103.5 to 102.7 TCID50 per liter of air. This reduction was similar to that observed with SARS-CoV-1, from 104.3 to 103.5 TCID50 per milliliter (Figure 1A).”

The posters here are correct, people don’t understand that 6 feet does not mean 2 feet. However for the anti golf people, I was in one of the colony supermarkets last week and it was mayhem, I determined that while standing there in a line of 30 people waiting to check out my odds of getting the virus there was 10X what it would ever be on a golf course.

Not necessarily true. Some as yet unpublished research has been done of air inside hospital room of patient with Covid and the air outside door of patient’s room. Possibly short lived but traces of Covid have been found. Sooo, how long does the virus float in the air? 60 seconds, 2 minutes?

Taking someone’s pic without their approval may get someone in their face real quick.

I worked UC for my last 5 years as a LEO and to this day I do not like my pic taken by anyone other than my wife, so things could get a little testy if I see someone snapping my pic.

Sorry but I disagree. here's why, most, if not all, amateurs do not understand "prospective". Here is a FACT. I saw a picture of me and others in my group standing on a course at the end or our game. First and foremost WE DO, AND WERE practice "social distancing" we were, at minimum, 6 feet apart. In the picture it appeared that some in the group were nearly touching each other. That individual is not knowledgeable enough to realize that we were in a circle and a circle has prospective. The further from the subject the photographer is, makes a world of difference, especially when the person on the far side of the circle is nearly 25 feet away. In the picture it appears we were only a few inches apart. People without knowledge need to quit being judge and jury. Are there some out there not practicing "Social Distancing? "YES to answer the question. . . . . . . Absolutely, however this back biting needs to stop, "judgement without knowledge is ignorance". For our nation, and our way of life I will continue to :pray:

Actually, they now say that is exactly what can happen! That’s why there is new advice to wear masks whenever not at home, to keep those carrying the virus but who are not yet showing symptoms (could be anyone) from expelling the virus into the air. They discovered this when a choir group came together, in a safe manner they thought, but most of them ended up with the virus. Researchers now believe they exchanged it just by talking and singing. You need to follow the news better before making comments like that. It has been clearly stated that it is also possible for Airborne Transmission, thus the strong suggestion for everyone to where masks. The Masks do not really protect you, but they keep anyone infected (many do not have symptoms) from spreading the Virus through the air. It is people that take your viewpoint that will continue to spread the Virus, by not following the rules.

Exactly. I golf but won’t die because I can’t or can if I practice social distancing. I worry far less about golf than I do to get groceries. I avoid the store like the plague (no humor intended.) Tell me how if the aisle in a grocery store is 6 feet, at best, how can go get groceries and be safe. People have no respect for social distancing. They will walk right next you without a care in the world. I have seen couples shopping standing right next to each other and will not file in behind each other so somebody else can go down the aisle. What if they shut the grocery stores down? And it probably is.

Please don't get the wrong idea from many of my posts. This pandemic IS serious and everybody should be extremely careful. Everybody should follow the law and engage only in permitted activities, and everyone is free to exceed the restrictions. I have defended golf because it is a low risk activity, in fact lower risk than many other things Villagers are doing every day. There is NOTHING anyone can do to make their risk zero. My objections are against those that want to dictate their choice of exceeding the restrictions to everyone else, and those that call anyone not doing what they are doing idiots, selfish, and entitled.

People are dying and that sucks. People are mortal and that sort of sucks as well. However, this is not the end of civilization as we know it (although it is rapidly becoming the end of civility---and I'm as guilty as the next person, sorry.)

But here are some numbers to ponder:

Since the first case appeared in China on November 17th, 140 days have passed and 66,560 people have died. Deaths from all other causes, worldwide, average 153,400 PER DAY or 21,476,000 since Nov 17. This is not wiping out the human race. Cases are increasing in some parts of the world and decreasing in other. It will end, sooner or later.

Forgive me, I am not a Villager yet and I don’t play golf and don’t know how to say this gently and get your attention at the same time. I am a competitive tennis player and can empathize how the golfers feel about continuing to play their sport. For the ones who continue to gather and play, you are taking a very big risk by doing so! For any of the golfers who are reading this and continue to play, do any of you have diabetes, hypertension, asthma, overweight, COPD, drink more than they should? If so, and you come in contact with the CoronaVirus and become symptomatic, the odds are against you!!! Even worse, if you are infected and asymptomatic, you are spreading the virus where ever you go, especially your home and whoever lives there!!!

STAY HOME TODAY TO BE HEALTHY TO PLAY GOLF WHEN THIS IS OVER!!!

Sad to say if history tells us anything it is this: The last major smallpox epidemic in the United States occurred in Boston, Massachusetts throughout a three-year period, between 1901-1903. During this three-year period, 1596 cases of the disease occurred throughout the city. Of those cases, nearly 300 people died. We will not have anything to fight this virus for some time. Please stay away from others. You have no idea who is positive even if you know them. It is now thought (I thought all along) this is also an airborne virus. The positive people only have to talk to you and they spew the virus back out into the air. The virus doesn't know anything about six feet. MIT has measured a sneeze going 27 feet and lingering in the air for several hours.
Please stay safe and alive.

Well said

Today I was playing in a twosome and as we were completeing our last hole on # 9 Fort Walton we observed the two foursomes that had been ahead of us congregating in mass along the cart path and grass area just past the green. To say they were not following the guidelines would be an understatement, we quickly weaved our two carts around their parked golf carts and pulled ahead and stopped near the restaurant. These 8 golfers were as close as 2 feet apart and acted as though they didn't have a clue what the world was going through. As one of the golfers passed us we cautioned him on the requirements of social distancing and he said , " we were playing for money and had to make payments to the winners".

These are the idiots that will ruin what we are now able to enjoy but probably not for long.

I am a Golfer and can wait it out.
If you are a renter, GO HOME!!
There is always next year, maybe.

What if we create a website for "Golf for Life"?

1.Get an address of people who need food near your golf course to be played
2. Get the list of needs
3. Shop
4. Deliver in front of the house
5. Go play !

You are out there anyway.. Why not do some good?

What a great idea and it would dispel the myth that golfers are selfish.

PLEASE!
99 PERCENT COMPLY -- yeah ok -- I am not disgruntled -- I don't play Golf because I work -- Golf is important to my home value -- but Golfers are not keeping the appropriate distances -- blame them -- not the people reporting transgressions

You must love your golf. LOL.
they seem to all have only a singular vision - it says that golfers are special -- Outside is better than indoors -- but WITHIN SPITTING DISTANCE -- works for no one

All those who want the golf courses closed, raise your hand if you attended church yesterday.
