I've had my gut filled with Comcast. I'm paying for 200 mg and getting 5 or 6 down. Total BS and I've tired of called for resets. QUESTION: Is there any way to get high speed internet so I can switch to HULU like we have up north? I've heard Century Link sucks. Any other options? Please tell me there is life after Comcast....and no Directv is no better.

Depends on where you live what provider is available. Personally I have no issues with ComCrap. Stuck with them because they are the only provider in my area that can provide more than 20Mbps. I'm on their 250/20 tier and always get 320/20. Have you tried connecting your computer hard wired (not wifi) DIRECT to your router and see what you get? That's really the ONLY way to determine where the problem lies. You could have a bad drop, a bad router or device connectivity issues. Something sounds very wrong somewhere. If that proves slow as well you should demand someone to come out and check your drop or the connection to the dmarc on the side of your house. Also, you could connect your router DIRECT to the incoming cable at the dmarc to eliminate inside wiring as a problem.

I have Spectrum and never have problems That is true if you can get Spectrum in your area. I tried and they referred me to Comcrap. Many areas in T.V. can't. Those that can are lucky.

I’m so sorry for suggesting it then. Perhaps AT&T? Not in T.V. :( I believe the only other one is Century Link who still uses "early 2000's" DSL). Maybe in the southern new areas there are others, that's why one needs to know where the OP is located. It even varies by the street in many areas within the same "Village."

Century link is good in some areas. I lived in Buttowood near Fishhawk and got 100 MBS. In Sunset Pointe on Heron and only get at most 20 MBS now. Some of their network is fiber optic and some dsl.

First, look at your modem. You should be using one you bought yourself. Their modems are older and may not be delivering the service newer models can provide. Here's a reference:

The Best Cable Modem for 2020 | Reviews by Wirecutter (https://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-cable-modem/)

The box will tell you if it's compatible with your ISP. Pretty much all are, the current standard is DOCSIS 3.0.

Second, look at your router. Newer routers now feature tri-band technology (one 2.4GHz and two 5.0GHz channels). Theoretical speeds for different generations of wi-fi are explained here:

802.11: Wi-Fi standards and speeds explained | Network World (https://www.networkworld.com/article/3238664/80211-wi-fi-standards-and-speeds-explained.html)

I have a TP-Link TC-7620 modem (Up to 680 MBps down, 143 MBps up) and a Netgear Nighthawk R7900P tri-band gigabit router, compliant with 802.11ac. No problems.

If you are using a Comcast modem/router, you can always exchange it for their latest model at no charge. They claim that their latest model can handle well over 300 mbps.

The advice EdFNJ gave you in post #2 is right on.

First of all, you can have them reset all day, every day, but since that's not working, you (or they), need to determine is it their end or your end that's causing the problem. Reset of internet modem won't do anything for a bad cable or bad connection or bad box. They need to come to your house to check the speed that your internet modem is actually putting through. To avoid any possible charge from them for a home visit, do it yourself as EdFNJ says in post #2. Are you using "Speedtest.net" to check your speeds?
If you do contact Comcast/Xfinity use their online chat. Don't call them. Much easier on the aggravation factor.

Secondly, I learned long ago to never overlook the obvious. Be sure of what tier of internet service that you're paying for. It will state it on your bill (also available online)

A tough nut to swallow sometimes, but it is just as possible the problem is at your end. I know it's annoying, I've been there too. Good luck!

I have had Comcast/Xfinity internet and TV Cable ever since we moved to The Villages in the summer of 2016. Never had a problem with Comcast except for the cost. In January this year we dropped cable TV and kept just the high speed internet. We have no problems with internet or with our various streaming apps. I have my own modem and router that is cable of handling over 200mbs and have no problems. The only problem I had a couple years ago was my older model modem kept dropping the signal. New modem solved that. Then my older router failed. Replaced that. Love my Comcast service and speed.

I'm a computer technician in the area for 20 years and Centurylink Fiber Optic has always been a great option, excluding their TV service. Just get their internet and phone if you need it and Streaming TV (YourTube TV, Hulu, etc...)

For the record I cut my Direct tv cord in December my WiFi is with century link and I have no issues. I use 3 fire stick 4K for streaming on 3 tv’s 2 phones 2 iPads a printer and 4 smart light also a sound bar. My cost is $65 a month and 5.99 with Hulu. I watch movies that are at the movie theater set all the major news channels any my service stays on without issues. Direct tv went down anytime it rains hard. Those of you that are thinking of changing don’t use a company or flea market guy to switch over order you fire stick directly from Amazon it’s simple to hookup then go to YouTube and watch “ how to jail break a fire stick. It’s that easy.

Comcast always says when you call about speed well it has to go thru your walls and it slows down everything or connect directly thru modem etc its all B.S. The truth is and they will never tell you is all comcast modems are set at lower speeds on purpose. I went to best buy and bought my on modem netgear night nighthawk.Comcast compatible and around 189.00, after installing my speeds have been what i'm paying for I went from 60 down load speed to the 200 download speed im paying for and with the speed test im at 235 to 240. The walls in my house dosent seem to mess the speed up with my netgear nighthawk modem. Comcast will never tell you the truth about this but scare you and tell you well we cant service your modem if you own it dont listen. I can now stream on my computer , firestick, hulu etc with no buffering.

I hear you and got rid of Comcast for the same reason. I have spectrum and I stream tv with a firestick and have no problems. I got their 400 speed instead of 250. Don’t have problems plus they include their own router and modum and they work great. 69.99 total per month including tax

I live in the northern Villages where Internet options and pricing sucks, but I did find a reasonable compromise. I was sick and tired of Comcast price increases and all of my neighbors who had CenturyLink said stay away.

I have CenturyLink up north with great pricing, service, and speed, so I kept checking back to see if they were ever going to upgrade their service here. I finally stumbled across a rep who knew what he was talking about. He said I could get twisted-pair service in my neighborhood for $49 per month for 40MB service. I thought, what do I have to lose, so I tried it even though the speed is slower and the price higher than my other CenturyLink service.

I get an honest and consistent 35MB with my DSL, which is more than enough speed for any streaming service. It's been totally reliable for the three months I've had it.

Thank you for you techies out there. Turns out it is my house not Comcrap. I took my iPad into the room with the modern and I'm testing 290 mbps down. Same iPad in my office right next to my iMac that tests at 18 mbps shows 130 mbps. My new MacBook pro runs at 140 while sitting next to my iMac. Why would my iMac which is less than 2 yr old run so much slower? I'm using it on wifi which is how I tested the other devices. Thank you in advance.

Available options depend on where in The Villages you live. In my case, we live between 466A and 44. CenturyLink offers fiberoptic service with a price for life guaranty. The only thing you may have to give up is your telephone land line if you still have one. Many of my neighbors and I have gone complete streaming. CenturyLink, YouTube TV, etc.

I have been using Comcast for years, with THEIR equipment. The last time I had problems, it turns out the cable drop from the outside box (back yard) to the box in the garage went bad. They had to install a new cable drop. The computers show 35 meg download and 20 meg upload (these are older computers), the phone shows over 300 meg download on wifi.
IMHO, if you are using Comcast equipment, request to have a technician come to your house and take actual signal level measurements, this is how they found the problem at our house, we went through all of the resets and modem reports before I had the tech come out. The problem was actually big enough, they had to get a second tech out.
As for signal strength, their newest modems are not a good as the older modem, so I am in the process of moving the modem, just finished relocating some of the cable connections will move the modem in the next day or so.

We have had Spectrum now for eight years (well, it was Brighthouse before Spectrum bought them) and we have no problems at all. We have 200Mbs internet and use Apple TV, two iPads, and three internet cameras (on the 5ghz channel) with all of them going at times with no hiccups.

This is a long shot. If your modem/router is on the desktop, right next to the monitor, then move it more than a foot away. Worked for me for Century Link DSL. In a similar way, I had a wireless indoor/outdoor thermometer that would not keep the signal when it was next to the living room TV, but worked fine elsewhere.

Unless you are a gamer who plays online, you don't need more than 25mbs for watching TV, movies, and streaming. All the hype about faster speeds in taking money out of your pocket. I have Centurylink, $45 for life at 25mbs download, and I use internet TV with YouTubeTV, HULU, Netflix, AppleTV, and Amazon Prime. I use a ROKU box. I have zero issues streaming these apps. Ditching cable and going internet TV is so easy, once you learn how to do it, you'll never go back...just sayin'

I've had Century Link internet since July 2011, and it's fiber optic since the beginning. I have no modem, I plug either my router or computer into the wall jack at the end of the kitchen bar. I've had one outage in nine years, never a slowdown of any kind. When I had the outage I called CL and a tech was here within 2 hours and said lightning had struck near the garage and knocked out the backup battery. He removed the B/U battery and all was well ever since. He said those batteries are more trouble than they are worth and they quit installing them.

I have the high speed rate and mine tests at 80mphs all the time. It's $49 for life and I don't have to give them my credit card. Some people have given them their CC and that knocks it down to about $40 if you sign up during the promotion. I'm just north of 466A, a new area in 2011.

I will do without before I ever deal with comcast again.

you may have to go without, because unfortunately the area we are in only gets comcast on a regular basis. what i mean is, other providers either didnt have access, or had a very poor performance. (the service can go out @ any time, we couldnt predict if it would work when we needed it to.) we use comcast for the internet & basic cable, but no pay channels (we can view those on streaming for free). good luck!

Thank you to the OP for getting back to us.
Now that you've narrowed down the problem to your end, you can work on resolving the exact problem.

There is a sense of satisfaction knowing you've proven this stuff by yourself.

For me, to completely resolve the problem of slow(er) signal to a distant room, I hardwired the laptop with CAT5 cable through the existing cable TV outlet on wall (with modification) straight into the Wifi router. Completely bypassing wifi for that one device.

Thanks again for getting back. We all learn that way.

I do not like Comcast for many reasons, but I do stream easily with them. I pay an extra 10 dollars a month for speed. Another think you can do is hook up a laptop or desktop to your TV, then use an ethernet cord running from the router to your TV (or whatever device you want to watch streaming media on), rather than try to stream via wifi. I no longer need the eathernet cord, Comcast streaming is now fast enough for me. But it should be an option if you can't get good streaming any other way.

Comcast is spotty. I get 35 to100 on the speed depending on the time of day and demand. I have my own modem/router for home WiFi. Paying for 150. They say I could get faster if I rented their modem. I can’t see the extra cost for me. I haven’t cut the cable yet so am getting their programming. The link is to a 5g article so it sounds like we will be having some good development on the horizon. I have had Comcast for 4 years, and my service has been very consistent and dependable. There are two things that I think cause people to dislike the company. One is that they operate on a 2 year contract which usually includes a $50 per month discount that automatically disappears when the contract expires. So, people who don't know the expiration date assume that Comcast has arbitrarily increased their prices. The second thing is that people often try to handle complicated issues on a phone call. It is much better to go online and make an appointment to visit their store on Rt 441 near Best Buy. This especially works if you meet with them a month or so before your contract expires, so you can set up a new contract before the discount on your current contract is eliminated. If you think their equipment is defective, you can always go to the store and exchange it.

There is no reason why you should be satisfied with those slow speeds.
If you're paying for 150 meg service, you should expect maybe 140 at the least on occasion but generally exceed 150.
Read post #2 You could very well have the same problem as OP.
It might be a Comcast problem or it might be your end.

I've had 100Mbps service with Spectrum in the Village of Marsh Bend since early December. Also the lowest level cable package.

Router located in office, and TP-Link Deco M5 mesh network hubs located in garage, living room, and lanai. This is a special WiFi extender that can also provide equivalent to hardwired Internet connections.

2 Samsung Smart 4K TVs, one hardwired, one WiFi. TiVo and TiVo extender, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire, Spectrum 6-tuner DVR, two computers, several tablets, Blink and Arlo security cams via WiFi, Ring 2 doorbell, and wifi calling for our cell phones.

Yes, I'm a techie without complaints. I don't use the Spectrum Router's WiFi. Wife needs to keep me around...

I would always choose Xfinity and now Xfinity mobile. For all of you who complain about costs, switching to Xfinity mobile effectively reduces your internet/tv cost by $40/month if you have 2 phones. It uses the Verizon towers.

Comcast has the fastest internet service as far as I know. I tested my actual download speed at 230 MB. Most web sites limit their data rate (via their servers) to 10-20 MB or so. Only a few sites (like Microsoft) utilize full bandwidth of 200 MB or so.

I had similar issues with low speed when I was paying for a higher level of service. After about and hour on line with technical service we determined the issue was my modem. They told me which type of modem I needed (specifications, not brand name). I replaced the modem and I got a small improvement. Upon looking at my WIFI specs I determined it was not capable of handling the higher speed either. I replaced the WIFI also and now receive speeds in the mid 200's. The modem was bought new from Best Buy for around $159 and the Wifi was purchased from Amazon as a refurbished unit for $59. The alternative is to rent the router from Comcast which is capable of handing the higher speeds.

Completely understand how you feel. I had comcast and NEVER received the download speed that I paid for. BUT, they were sure to call me and ask me if I wanted to pay a bit more for faster internet. They couldn't deliver what I was paying for but they kept increasing the monthly bill until I finally dropped them completely. I found out that the home I purchased a couple years ago already had fiber optic run to it by Centurylink and gave them a call. Not only did they install free, gave me a modem/router free, but their cost for five times the speed was cheaper and permanent. I now get more channels streaming using a Roku stick. Comcast charges over $25 in just fees and taxes. All cable TV providers charge the fees and taxes, but you can pretty much eliminate them by streaming TV via the Internet. I had heard stories about how bad Centurylink was, but I have not seen it yet. I have much faster Internet than I did before, getting over 600Mbps and stream 4K shows with NO buffering. Maybe I am an exception, but it may be something you can look into. I don't think I would go DSL. I had that up North and did not like it. Some folks are happy with Comcast/Xfinity. I suggest that if you decide to stay with them, get your own modem (a good one). Why pay comcast for renting your modem?

They are all terrible, but I have found that Century Link sucks less than Comcast. The last two years or so Century Link has really gone down hill approaching Comcast. New management I heard....don't know for sure.
Be aware that it take a long time for Century Link to get you hooked up. I tried to use them in TV and hook up was 7 weeks out, I bit the bullet and went to Comcast. Got hooked up in two days, but now trying to cancel it is impossible.

If you are satisfied with the services you have for $115 per month, I don't think you will be able to save much money by switching. Even if you go to an internet only service and subscribe to a comprehensive streaming service, you will still be paying about $100 per month or more.

I live near Nancy Lopez and have Century Link 1000 g/b service for $65/mo no tax. The fiber optic cable comes right into my office, runs at 600-700 m/b constantly.
See if they have fiber service near you

Our Comcast service (Pine Ridge Village) has been quite satisfactory. This pertains to both cable television and video service.

I have Century Link with 80 M down, which is plenty for Hulu or any other streaming. I don't get the bad reviews for Century Link. By the way, technology will never work perfectly. That's just the way it is.

Thank You all for your feedback on internet providers in TV. I am so glad that I found this thread as my wife and I are hoping to move to TV soon! With the Covid-19 still going strong, not sure when we will be able to put our CA home up for sale. We have Comcast (internet, TV programming & landline) here and have been happy with our service but it’s pricy. Pretty sure when we buy (preference is for a new home but not discounting a previously owned home) it will be South of 44. Pretty up to date with the advantages & disadvantages living there. I am assuming that since there are built in 2020 that they are have filberwire? And do the new homes have CAT5 outlets in each room? Leaning towards Comcast but will make final decision once there.
