Please have him check with the bank to make sure this is not some type of scam. If possible or practical he might want to block any direct (ACH) withdrawals until all is confirmed above board.

Online banking confirmed check is from government, 27% taxes taken out of the $1000.00 He thought at first it was his tax return, but wrong amount, until his bank confirmed, deposit at 3:44am. Customer service said they started getting deposits in customer accounts just after 2am

Hummmm, my understanding is that the stimulus payments will not count as taxable income. I clearly remember this being stated by Steven Mnuchin during one of the press conferences. I just googled it and read an article from Forbes confirming the payment is tax free. Am I missing something?

Also, the amount for each individual is $1200, $500 for dependent children. Something is off. I wouldn't spend that money until positively confirmed into his account.

The amount may not be $1200 if you make more than $75,000, but less than about $100,000. In that case, the stimulus check amount is prorated. However, the stimulus check is counted as a tax credit, so it is not taxable. I think the only way money could be withheld from the check is if the person is behind in child support payments.

It’s a Treasury check bank confirmed it this morning, his income is over$75,000. So it was prorated. He will be using it to buy Amex gift cards to give to the employees that aren’t working for him right now

Here's a calculator if you or someone you know falls into the over 75,000 (single) or over 150,000 (married). Also allows you to enter number of children.

The Stimulus Payment Calculator tells you how much money you could get (https://www.cnbc.com/2020/03/27/the-stimulus-payment-calculator-tells-you-how-much-money-you-could-get.html)

Not paying child support,,,, he manages 3 well know bar restaurants, working 60 hour weeks.

Is a behavioral phyc, and teaches autistic children in his spare time. On every holiday including Mother’s Day, he has the family’s come to eat at restaurants guest, and each child has a behavior person at the table so MoM who is usually alone can have a relaxing time.

As he has always said he has more children than he could ever ask for, and when a non verbal, low functioning child signs him for a juice.

He knows he has made a difference.

What do you do in your spare time, other than try to belittle people you know nothing about

Did he have a State Refund coming? He can check the status of his federal refund at IRS.gov and can do so at the state’s website too. It is possible that the IRS modified his refund after their review.

Also, the previous reply regarding the “stimulus” checks is correct, it is a non-taxable event.

If you are on Social Security and/or make less than $75 K, you will get $1200 whether you need it or not. It's difficult for even the Federal Government to spend $2.2 trillion.

I dont know about the tax part- but fingers crossed its tax free
But I did understand if you make more than 75,000 but less than 99,000 your check amount would be 5$ less for each $100 over the 75,000 mark. So if you made $78,000 your check amount would be $1050.

You can uncross your fingers because the check is tax free. It is treated like a tax credit. In fact, even people who are delinquent and owe back taxes will still get the full or prorated amount based on income. The only people who may not get a check are those who are behind in child support payments and have been reported to the Federal Government.

Letter arrived in the mail today, from IRS dated February 17. His 2018 taxes were audited, and found a mistake.

The check was a refund from IRS for their findings. As he said if letter would have come 6 weeks ago, when it was dated, there would not been a guessing game.

So check deposit was legit, however not stimulus.

He said since it’s found money, it’s still going to his employees who are still waiting on unemployment.

His hope is anyone who does not need their stimulus, if you could go to your favorite restaurant and donate to the staff. They have served you well, and even though they would expect nothing, they would be grateful

I don't get a pension of any kind, and I'm not old enough to get SS. Despite that, I don't want or need the check, so I CAN wait. I'll be giving it out to all those service people who have made TV a wonderful place. Barber, dog groomer, wait staff, golf shop workers, etc. I doubt you'll be one of them

GE, do you think you'll be able to spread it around on your own or would you like for me to dig up the name of a new company that was proposed to spread it around for you? I'd bet the Love Shack that you can handle it on your own just like many off us will. I can't wait to get down to business helping others and I'm certain you feel the same way! :clap2:

No. Your original post implied that the delay was due to Trump wanting his name on the checks. That was the skew.

There IS a delay due to that. It's just a couple extra days, because the final decision on whether or not his name would appear, didn't come until recently and they had to print the checks.

The checks still weren't going to be sent out for another week or two, but now it's another week or two - plus a couple of days.

Meanwhile, the "My Payment" tracker on the irs.gov website says it can't determine whether or not I'm eligible to receive a stimulus check. I don't know why, we fell under the max in 2018 by around $40,000, and in 2019 we fell under it by just around $90,000. So we absolutely qualify.

If you didn't have a checking account on file with the IRS, only filed but never received a refund, then they start mailing checks May 4th at the rate of 5 million per week. Trumps name will appear in the memo stub, that has not delayed the printing at all. However, it may take up to 20 weeks to mail all the checks at this rate.

It's not tied to whether or not you got a refund. It's whether or not your bank account info was on file. Our bank account had been on file because we paid the taxes we owed electronically. No refund - payment. But the account info was in the system.

Now I find out we paid by check. But we only owed this past year, and the year before. Every other year before 2018, we got a refund, and the refund was always deposited electronically into our bank account.

But apparently that's not good enough for this stimulus check thing, they'll only go back to 2018. I checked the tool and there's no option to provide deposit information, if you paid tax by check in the past two years. ONLY if you got refunds by check in the past 2 years, or didn't file at all in the past 2 years.

So those of us who actually paid by check - will likely be among the last to see any of this stimulus check. So much for the new screen door. It was a nice thought, anyway. Maybe we'll get one in a few months.

I am original OP if you read our youngest was guessing as to What the Deposit was.....if it was stim check was there taxes or was it the reduction because he makes over $75000. If you read posts the letter from treasury dept, that arrived 6 weeks late, stated it was an error on HIS 2018 taxes, would receive deposit first of April. Would not have been a guessing game if letter would have arrived in February when it was generated.

So recap not stim, no 27% taxes removed, ERROR on 2018 TAX RETURN, deposited in account.
