Try Youtube. Maybe you can do it yourself with a how-to video.

Yes, there are Youtube videos. It is a very easy, but somewhat messy DIY job. You just remove some screws, take the housing apart to expose the gears, remove the old grease, and then pack new grease around the gears. I don't think there is any oil, just the special Kitchenaid grease. Sometimes, oil will leak out of the mixer when the grease has separated because you haven't used the mixer enough. If that is the problem, you may want to try using it more often to mix the grease.

While I have never heard of this, I have done similar projects (drills, grinders, etc), so if you are looking for a very bored handyman type person, I can help. I am south of 466a, and if there is a "special" grease I would appreciate if you could obtain that.

Just looked at the youtube video, need food grade machinery grease, and the disassembly, cleaning and reassembly looked very straight forward.

I have a KS5 kitchen aid for 30 yrs and never heard of changing the grease. I checked YouTube and there are great videos, I only watched one, as it was my exact mixer.

I will order 2 replacement parts as suggested in the video because they most likely will be worn. The grease from kitchen aid is $60, so I will be using the one he uses. It is $10 on Amazon. When I get all my parts , I'll attempt this project.

I'm back North so I won't have village tinker to call if I have parts left over after assembling. That's the scary part, lots of little parts and screws.

The is a theory of 'mechanical reproduction' if you have parts left over, then if you take the device apart and put it back together often enough, you will have enough parts to build another one. I did this with Mustangs started with 7 ended up with 8!!!

This has NOTHING to do with the subject of this thread but I have to say it.

Villagetinker you just amaze me. You are so smart and not only that, so practical and I so treasure those who can fix things or make things or make do. Sometime after this is over I hope to shake your hand and hug your neck. I so enjoy your posts. This is the greatest compliment I can give anyone...……..you remind me of my husband.

Moderator. Please don't take this post down. I needed to say it.

Sorry, that you have to work on your Kitchen Aid. Have had one for 30 years and thank goodness no problem, ever.

Thanks for the laugh.
We got ours from my mom after she passed and it must be over 20 years old and works great. Never had any idea that this would ever need to be done and think I will wait and see how others make out with this project and than not attempt it.

where does one get that special kitchen aid grease?

Type that same question into Google. You will see plenty of results. Same with Amazon.

What makes you think it needs to be greased? Trouble shooting for the mixers are all over the web. Type in the problem you have and up pops the solution with how to. many times it’s an easy fix. They do have brushes in the motor. Had mine for years with little to no adjustments

Mine is leaking oil too and it was in storage . Good to know first that the oil is food grade and second that I can try running it. I would gladly hand it off to be repacked but I am sheltering in place in Atlanta

While you have it apart you might as well change the points and plugs at the same time.
