After playing today, my wife, my brother -in-law and myself went to TDS takeout, ordered some beers to go and found a nice place to park our carts, 10 feet from each other. Three of us having a beer and practicing social distancing. Sounds good right ? An ambassador stopped by us and told us that we couldn't be having large gatherings and that we needed to go ? A large gathering, 3 people with 10 feet between us. Really ? I questioned him about it and he said he was just the messenger. Sorry he has to deliver a message where obviously nobody can use common sense and see that are following the guidelines.

Sad, but I think you have to cut him some slack, especially at TDS. I played there a few days ago and they were extremely adamant about groupings and social distancing. An ambassador explained that the homeowners around TDS have an usually high concentration of self appointed coronavirus police, armed with their cell phone cameras, and have pretty much been taking non-stop pictures of anyone THEY consider violating the distance guidelines. TDS just doesn't want any trouble. They should consider setting off a limited EMP bomb to kill the chips in these people's cell phones:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

Stay at home means STAY AT HOME

To quote Petula Clark from "Don't sleep in the Subway"----"We've heard this all a million times"

For those that still have reading comprehension issues:

Stay at home means stay at home, EXCEPT for essential service and activities, of which golf is one of them.

So you stay home, hiding under your bed, while the rest of us get some exercise.

I don't understand why the Ambassador is being challenged when in fact he was doing a good job. A lot of people think that as long as they feel safe then all is fine. They don't think of the medical people and support that have to walk by and through the area they are occupying and the risk to them! Our son works in a Rehab that cares for everyone from infants to senior citizens who have had brain damage from either abusive parents, or accidents, birth injuries or age etc. He doesn't have the option to avoid going out and staying home so he is at risk to those who elect to throw cation to the wind, ignore the medical recommendation to stay home or only expose others by going to the market, Doctor, or other Emergency Needs. Sitting outside either at the squares, or other public places is to put the other person who MUST go out at risk. Shame on you and thanks to the Ambassador who had the good sense to send you off. :ohdear:

Wednesday late afternoon my wife and I and another couple in there cart were having ice cream across the street from Culver’s in a parking lot under the trees, all the businesses were closed the lot was empty when an unmarked SUV pulls up with 6 sheriffs in it. One sheriff got out and told us we had to be at home.
Florida is under a lock down and you are not supposed to be out unless getting essentials or golfing. Guess you were finished golfing.

I'll assume you're just pulling our legs.

Since when do 6 deputies ride around in a single SUV, unless they're headed for the donut shop?

But I like the hypocrisy of 6 sheriffs in a SUV lecturing a couple outdoors on social distancing

I saw you guys having a beer and having a good time. I thought . . ."good for them.!" When I saw you, you were in the postal station parking lot so hopefully the ambassador didn't over extend his responsibility of the golf course. Maybe you just moved to the parking lot from where you were. Anyway, I saw three guys appropriately distanced having a good "guy" time.

Here in the UK we are not allowed to ‘gather’ with anyone other than one person, hence a ‘gathering’ of two persons only. We had nearly 1000 deaths from Covid-19 yesterday. We are following the advice here 100%. It’s to stop the spread. What exactly don’t you understand about this situation?

Also, the Morse family is getting THOUSANDS of calls, emails, letters every day from people who think the golf courses should be closed. So, if you want the courses to get closed, keep gathering. If you want them to open, go home and gather.

Similar thing happened to us at Evans Prairie. We thanked ambassador for his concern and stayed in parking lot under shade. (All carts were at least 6 feet apart).

Also some homeowner took our pic while we were on the course; not sure why as we were a threesome, each in her own cart, maintains social distance.

Just an FYI. Thirty six states including Florida have permitted certain recreation activities such as golf remain open. If you don’t like that ruling complain to your government official. And just as an example, I may not like the outrageous behavior of those here in the Villages who frequently over indulge on spirits at each town square but I don’t see anyone doing anything, including law enforcement, about that

We had no problem sitting in parking lot of TDS after golf, ordered some take out and had a drink with the villages secruity vehicle near us, we asked if we were OK and were told yes, no problems. Last week we got take out from Spanish Springs Gators and sat in town square listening to music with our own chairs, cops were present and never told us to leave. I have been very impressed with the amount of people wearing masks going into Winn Dixie & the UPS store.
We drive around Brownwood Square and no one was wearing a mask. I see a forever stream of golf carts flying down the roads with people wearing no masks The virus stays in the air for a bit. If someone sneezes that has the virus your golf cart is not going to protect you. If everyone wore a Hat, mask & washed their hands before touching their face this virus may end soon so we can get on with our lives. Those people ignoring the guidelines especially not wearing a mask are just prolonging the stay at home rule for the rest of us. We were going to pick up food from Brownwood but after seeing people standing closely in a line waiting for food, no one wearing mask & golf carts flying by not stopping at stop signs we won't be picking up food for a long while.

Somewhere between those who are still trying to live as if everything is normal, and those who would have us all hiding under the bed for the next 6 months, is that elusive and not-so-common thing called common sense.

It’s reported that 96% of all cases are classified as “mild”, and that 98+% of all cases make a full recovery. Even so, none of us know who would fall into that small category of those who have either a critical case or a death. That’s enough to take this seriously, even with the odds in humanity’s favor.

That said, fresh air and exercise are good for us, both physically and mentally. Unless social distancing is blatantly being ignored, the ambassadors chasing us off walking paths seems kind of ridiculous, which happened to me earlier this week. The Belmont course is closed for maintenance, but the path was being used by walkers and bikers, and it’s a place that affords hundreds of feet of distance between people. No one was walking on the grass that was being aerated and fertilized.

We all left, but I've since observed so many people and carts all bunched up at the various courses. What sense does that make, and where’s the consistency of the rule application?

Then to hear of cops breaking up a small group of people on carts who were staying apart? I don’t know.....that scares me almost as much as the threat of this virus. We are only a couple steps away from being asked for our papers!

Stay safe and stay SANE.

Wow, no shortage of people helping you live your life correctly. Seeing how you’re doing it so wrong.

For those who continue to insist if everyone would just stay home for a time period they deem to be the correct amount would end Covid-19 sooner that is simply not the case. It is in fact likely making it last longer. The point of that is to try to drag it on longer so medical facilities can keep up (not be overwhelmed).

If you’re willing to listen, both state and federal government is encouraging people to get out an exercise. I haven’t heard any “experts” who don’t encourage responsible social interaction. Mental health is important too.

1. We all know, of course, that there are those that will NOT take advice and will NOT listen to even the smartest people on earth when it comes to what looks like coercion.
2. As for responsible interaction, there is a relatively strong minority of persons, IMHO, who cannot put a curb on their silliness, even if it means dying. Must be from NH: Live free or Die. I should know; that's my state.

Ok, I think I have the right not to do so. The right to peaceful assembly is guaranteed under the first and fourteenth amendments, and I do not believe a group of less than 10 people staying 6 feet apart presents a clear and present danger to public safety.

What is truly scary about this mania is how quickly normal citizens not only allow their rights to be trampled, but the are willing to become nanny state enforcers, reporting on their neighbors, etc.

27 people died in Sumter county in 2017 of the seasonal flu, and I don't recall being put under martial law then.

You can see from this thread that a lot of people feel we should support the insanity of accusing three people ten feet apart of safety violations.

Why do they support the ambassador - the messenger?

Answer = they adhere to the letter of the law .. they never speed, they always come to a full stop, and they do exactly as they are told by the authority figures. They are good people to follow every rule.

Do we wonder how Socrates or Plato or any historical philosopher would react to authority figures making no sense? Isn't it our obligation to force people to think?

Let me tell you folks that this is serious. Im here in NY and stay at home is what we're doing. Only going out of the house to buy food. And only once a week wearing gloves and a mask. And thank goodness people are all starting to wear a mask or covering over their face. All it takes is one person and you guys down there are in trouble. The weather is beautiful down there. Sit in your Lanai's, organize things in your home, Etc. Reading a lot of comments these past several weeks, I can't believe how some people still don't get it. Do not congregate. Go for your walks or cart rides etc. but not with other people . Don't want to see people get very ill or worse as well.. Stay safe everyone and do your part to keep others safe also.

One sheriff got out and told us we had to be at home.
Florida is under a lock down and you are not supposed to be out unless getting essentials or golfing. Guess you were finished golfing.

Six sheriffs in one SUV? Hope they had proper PPE!

If people who live on TDS are taking pictures so that they can shut down golf, that Ambassador did all of us a favor.
There are people who absolutely believe you should stay in your house and not go out until this virus is gone. There are other people who are being careful and social distancing, but they are going out to the grocery store and some are golfing, biking and walking.
People are doing what is right for them. I think most people are being mindful and staying a safe distance.

Especially to ChicagoNative: Doesn’t it seem bizarre that shootings, overdoses and car accidents routinely kill or seriously injure so many people, especially in Chicago, but this illness is an indisputable emergency worthy of Interventions that have curtailed our liberties and risked our economic prosperity?

Dr Fauci said they are considering issuing some type of immunity papers to those who have tested positive and since recovered or, theoretically, to those who eventually test immune. This is scary stuff since it seems as if humankind has learned nothing from our past. Would only those who are immune be allowed the freedom to worship, assemble, prosper, health and happiness? For how long? Even if an effective Vaccine were developed they are not 100% effective. And since this is a coronavirus, like the common cold is, what if COVID-19 continuously mutates— like the common cold does—so a single vaccine isn’t possible?

I think that you can do it somewhere else, just not by the golf course. Go to a parking lot or picnic tablev somewhere.

1. The "Whataboutism" seems to run rampant here. If it wasn't a serious situation, it'd be laughable, in a pathetic sort of way.
2. For people who tend to be so staunchly "pro-life," I'm pretty surprised that the same mentality is "pro-right-to-assemble" in the midst of a contagious virus that is causing death of Villagers. Which is it folks? Are you pro-life, or pro-mah-freedoms? In this particular situation, you can't have both.
3. There's nothing in the "right to assemble" that guarantees you the right to a) assemble on PRIVATE property, b) assemble in close proximity during a pandemic. Yes, you can be out in the town square. Six feet away from everyone else. We aren't on lockdown. We're on "stay at home but not really." There's a BIG difference. Learn to appreciate it.
4. Edited to add: even when there isn't a pandemic, it's against the law to drink beer in your golf cart. So you needed to not do that anyway and the Ambassador probably saved you the trouble of a fine and possible court time.

Not to a parking lot. It's still illegal to drink in public places, except for the town squares which are currently closed.

Can you provide the source of your statistics? I think they are optimistic but appear to be dangerously misleading

This is not the flu! It is a worldwide pandemic of which the devastating short and long term consequences are yet to be seen

Since the ambassadors no longer carry water and are now part of crowd control, they should send some to LSL.

Frankly, I don't see why the golf courses have to be open either--that is not essential. Many of us cannot do what we love to do so the golfers should not be golfing either. Get a little putting range at your home and practice there.

Yep, there it is....

I admit I’m an optimist, but I deal in facts over feelings.

Lots of info to slice, dice, and parse here:

COVID-19 Map - Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center (https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html)

And here:

Coronavirus Update (Live): 1,846,833 Cases and 113,883 Deaths from COVID-19 Virus Pandemic - Worldometer (https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/)

Keep in mind that we’re trying to solve for x with missing variables. It’s suspected that there are way more infections that are going unreported because people self resolve without hospitalization. That would bring the mortality rate down even more.

So, yes, it’s a fact that this is deadly serious for some. My feeling is when the world debriefs on this over the coming months, I think it’s going to look like one of the biggest cases of the tail wagging the dog in human history.
