State data shows huge increase in positive Sumter co coronavirus. Where typically there were only a few a day yesterday 4/18 appears to be 20+. What the heck happened? Why is there no reporting on testing and follow up in paper or county health web site. Biggest thing going and no good information on local status. Even UF WEB site has no discussion on specific results or trends. State web site with data is Experience (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/96dd742462124fa0b38ddedb9b25e429)
Found out that the source of the high positive results were the prison. There were no sudden jumps in coronavirus in the villages.

If you got more information, would you change your behavior in any way?
We all know what to do to lessen our chances of getting the virus, and we are doing it.

Royal Caribbean Cruises’ CEO Richard Fain (photo top in happier days) collected $14,358,919 in compensation in 2019, the cruise line announced two weeks ago in a SEC filing.
Two days earlier, Royal Caribbean announced that it was laying off 25% of its workforce in the United States, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, Royal Caribbean announced the “early conclusion of many crew contracts.” Last month, Royal Caribbean laid off 1,000 contractors.
Royal Caribbean SEC filings indicate that prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, the cruise line employed approximately 77,000 employees, which includes 70,000 shipboard employees, and 7,000 full-time employees in its shoreside operations.
Mr. Fain has collected an average of $12,000,000 a year in compensation each year for the last 6 years for a total of approximately $72,000,000. He earned $12,422,715 in 2018, $13,343,413 in 2017, $10,405,684 in 2016, $9,388,569 in 2016 and $12,013,878 in 2015.
In the beginning of April, Mr. Fain announced that he was forgoing six months (through the end of September) of his $1,100,000 base salary which turns out to be around $550,000. This may see like a substantial amount of money, but it is only around 3.5% of his compensation last year. Mr. Fain received around $13,100,000 of his compensation in stock awards, incentive plans compensation, increases in his pension plan and other compensation.

They closed down the testing sites near the villages for over a week due to lack of tests. Then they opened it again for 2 days and closed it again. If you aren’t testing , your numbers won’t rise but instead maintain. It’s seems like a good way to get the state to open up everything again, doesn’t it? Seems like it to me. Watch the numbers rise again as soon as they get the tests especially now that the gov is leaving opening up the counties to them . Look at Jacksonville’s beaches

There will be no published increase in numbers of COVID patients until there is more testing. If there is no testing, everyone thinks there is no problem with this pandemic. Moreover, not all people who have this disease are being reported. Case in point, a couple who are neighbors became sick as dogs after an early March plane trip. They had the EMT's at their house at least two times but were not transported to the hospital. The woman was finally tested. The man was not. I saw the man a bit later in his front yard watering his plants. In our across the street chat (he was wearing neither gloves nor mask), he told me he was feeling better (although he had lost 20 pounds) so the previous day he had walked to the postal station to pick up his mail. Presumably, he did so without face mask or gloves. He had never been tested. The next day I found out from another neighbor that the woman had tested positive for COVID. Here is how the stats would be reported. During their illness, neither of them would have counted as being positive for COVID. Neither would have been reported as sick. As they recuperate, the woman would have been reported as positive. He would not have been. I am sure their situation is not unique. The numbers we see are vastly underreported. Are you ready to go to your postal station without gloves and mask now?

This is what infuriates me about these people who claim it is "their right" to do whatever they want, and that the State should be opened up. B.S. We have idiots like your neighbors who just don't think about the consequences of their actions, which can affect the rest of us, no matter how careful we are..Besides the post office, they may have gone to the grocery store and contaminated surfaces. At the post office they could have come into close contact with people if they were walking around the corner to their mailbox, etc. I'm sorry for them that they were sick. Losing twenty pounds is just horrible. But we can't rely on the public to self regulate themselves. I don't think people are really very good at it. We are looking at all the people on the beach in close contact, since the beaches have been re-opened. Not a good thing.

“Here’s breakdown of the testing numbers:
…
Sumter
Total tests: 1,525
Positive: 125
Percent positive: 10%”
This is an example of less than great reporting. The raw data here yields a positive rate of 8.2%, not the reported 10%. The reported rate is obviously wrong just from looking at the data…I didn’t have to pull out a calculator to determine that. This undermines public confidence in the information being reported, when it’s so obviously incorrect on the face of it. :ohdear:

THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL STATEMENT JUST PLAIN COMMON SENSE.
People who follow Trump or the Governor will certainly die, We watch all the news and made our decision, plus we have family in the medical profession. This stuff is REAL. Young people 30 and 40 years old with no underlying health problems are dying. Listen to the Dr Fauci, he has no political ax to grind he has been there thru several presidents Republican and Democrat

On the Florida Department of Health website you can see the number of cases by zip code. The Villages is “mainly” 32162. I know there are other zip codes for The Villages... The 73 quoted above is likely a total of 32162, 32163, and 32159. But then there maybe some cases that are not actually in The Villages.

Well, being a retired corporate financial controller. I can tell you that isn't that easy to really know the financial situation of a company without looking at the profit and loss and balance sheet statements. What was their % return on sales before and after, the costs if operation before and after the shutdown, cash flow, etc. Without any revenue coming in, I'm sure they are scrambling to cover the cost of those huge ships that are out of operation. The costs of idle ships have to be substantial. Ships systems and mechanics have to continue to be maintained, along large docking fees, etc. Stockholders will want to know that expense cuts are made anywhere possible. The CEO's compensation may seem exorbitant to you but, seeing the amounts you listed, are less than I would have expected and certainly not out of the norm. When you have the total responsibility of a company's success or failure on your shoulders, the compensation has to be comparable to other companies to attract the best person possible. If you want to put that into comparison to about every pro athletic compensation, it's not even close and they have no responsibility for a company and people's lives. Those companies have to survive if jobs are to return when this horrible time is over. So if you want to complain about high salaries, complain about twisted values we have placed on friggen sports and movie stars, and the completely exorbitant salaries of these people, who have none this kind of responsibility on their shoulders.

For the entire state, about 10% of those tested are positive. About 5% of those tested in Lake County are positive, about 5% of those tested in Marion County are positive, and about 10% of those tested in Sumter County are positive.
We have no idea what percentage of the state is positive.

Isn't that the whole reason for testing to determine what further treatment is needed?
What am I missing, maybe the truth???

COVID 19 tests aren't only happening at the Polo Grounds. If you have symptoms, your PCP should also test you (I know of a few people who received a test from their PCP).
I follow the COVID 19 results for Sumter County (number of cases and deaths) and cases in The Villages, Sumpter. Cases in The Villages Sumter has only increased by 7 cases in the past week (61 cases on the 13th, 68 cases on the 20th). Deaths in SUMTER COUNTY (includes The Villages but not exclusively The Villages) were 9 deaths on the 13th, 11 deaths on the 20th.
The number of cases in Sumter County in the past week (as of April 20) increased by 40. The number in The Villages Sumter County increased by 7.
It appears that people in The Villages are taking Socially Distancing seriously. Celebrate the positives! I think this is good news.

The Daily Sun issued data a/o 4/20/20 on the Corona Virus testing.
In the 3 Counties: Sumter, Lake and Marion 262,495 were tested, 485 positive cases.
That amounts to 0.18%, less than 2/10's of 1%.
But, were is the data on how many of those testing positive required further medical
treatments.

The original testing was not a random sample, it was designed as a research study where asymptomatic were tested far more than you would expect. Most testing is designed to see if those with symptoms had it.
From University of Florida website:
If they are concerned yet do not have symptoms nor meet standard clinical testing criteria, they will have the opportunity to sign up for a UF research study that enables them to receive testing as part of an epidemiological protocol known as community surveillance. The purpose of the study is to assess the degree of asymptomatic viral shedding at the onset of a COVID-19 outbreak. This is a valuable public health activity to identify people with early disease or asymptomatic shedding of virus.
