Excellent post Chatbrat. Very often this has entered my head too. I have been watching the "liberators" in the Mid-Western States screaming for their freedom and wonder what the Nazi's would have done with them.

I feel deeply for the very low income people who have no money and cannot buy food to feed their children. I wonder if we will have civil uprising and dead in the streets before this is over.

Connecticut and other states and communities all over the country have stepped up to help people who are unable to feed their kids. Food banks, food pantries, health organizations, municipal parks departments, are all coming together to provide food, and cook meals for folks who would otherwise not get it.

The bad news, is that this isn't happening everywhere, AND it is especially not happening in places where people don't have easy transportation to the locations where the hand-outs are being given.

The good news, is that the concept of giving to others is spreading almost as quickly as the virus itself.

If it were not for the fact that the government seems to be so happy keeping us under their control, I would say its a beautiful thing. Any protestors that come out to ask for "liberation" are met with armed police. Don't you think that's a little heavy handed? Remember, in WWII Germany, things didn't happen all at once. It was incremental socialization...."if we can get the people to accept this, then maybe we can do that". I visited the Frank house a couple years ago, and it was very touching.

When I even think about complaining about the inconvenience...and that's what it is for most of us, my father's service as a Marine on Iwo Jima comes to mind along with my parents' sacrifices during The Depression. Totally agree! I've especially enjoyed doing cardio classes from youtube. My stamina is getting great! My motto is "it could always be worse". Positivity is the best gift you can give yourself and others in my book.

The loss of our freedom is a serious issue and a power grab by politicians like the gov of Mich. people being dragged off buses? Lone surf-boarders being arrested by police not wearing masks themselves? This is an open door to giving power to government that we may never be able to reclaim all in the name of our “safety.” We need to put the world back to work. I believe that Chatbrat’s comment referring to Anne Frank and the atrocities of the Holocaust was insightful and timely as a result of it being the anniversary of the Holocaust in the thoughts of many- that should never be forgotten. Especially for that reason, I don’t feel the comment should have been written any other way, especially not as you suggested. Those are his/her thoughts at this time, NOT YOURS, and certainly not a nullification of anyone’s concerns. I get it.

As for stimulus checks... there are many of us who don’t “NEED” them as much as retirees living month-to-month on only SSI or those people living day-to-day on much less. Not everyone is fortunate enough to be living off investment income or the benefits of a lucrative retirement plan.

As for those who don’t NEED the stimulus checks, it’s “found money” that they can use however or for whatever they'd like. Sure, we can buy something for ourselves, but for them- it’ll be a few dollars that will get them a NEED, not a WANT.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING WITH YOUR CHECK IF YOU GET ONE? How about giving the person who is at risk but still bags your groceries with a smile or helps you to your car? Think about those who lost their jobs and incomes... the wait staff that usually serves a group of sometimes demanding diners and lives off of tips only. What about the workers around here that get the very minimum of what the company charges to care for your lawn? I can go on, but I won’t. I’m stepping off my soapbox. I think you get the gist.

I’m not patting myself on the back, and I do WANT a new coffee table, but any money I receive, if any, I’d like to randomly give to those less fortunate than we are. Imagine how helpful that would be for them if everyone in my position (living modestly), or those living with much more than I have, could make a big difference in the life of someone else!

I could not agree more! Attitude makes a huge difference. Strange as it sounds, I hear of so many people whose lives were so filled with activities (the way TV is often advertised with a calendar) who are now finding without the distraction of these activities that they don't really know themselves—or worse, that they really don't enjoy being with themselves. This is not chiseled in stone; this is something we can work on, on our own, in our own homes. I too am finding self-quarantine to be 'a piece of cake' (though I'm probably eating too much of it...), and because of potentially complicating factors on top of age I don't even venture out by myself for a ride. I'm getting so much neglected stuff done around the house—and each accomplishment just feels good! I suspect it will be a different world when this is over, not better and hopefully not worse, but different. And perhaps we can use our time now to help us prepare for it. Back to attitude....

I believe chatbrat is 100% right. We as Americans are not being hunted down as the Nazi did. The government is not killing you because you left your house. The government is “asking” you to stay home. You can leave your home to enjoy your back yard, you can go for a drive, a walk, a bike ride, you can go to the food store. The Nazis hunted people down & killed them in the streets. They were loaded onto train cars and sent to die.

The government is protecting Americans from dying. I am from NJ and people are dying everyday from this disease. Loved ones are dying alone. Funerals are not taking place. The reality is horrible.

The poor in this country are suffering. They need help. Food banks need help. Rather than complain about your comfortable lives here in The Villages go out & help! Go shopping for those who can’t. A jar of peanut butter and a loaf of bread will feed a family for dinner. $5. That feeds a family for dinner.

I am sure Anne Frank would have loved some compassion from her government. As we Americans enjoy everyday! Stop saying the government is telling you what to do & not to do. You as Americans enjoy freedoms that people died for you to have. So just stop jumping on people because they have a different opinion than you. As Americans we can have different opinions. It is our right.

People with guns protesting in the streets are not peaceful if the have guns. Guns kill people. They are showing their weapons to intimidate. Government at this time is trying to protect us not control us. If police didn't stop those demonstrating they woud become out of control. That is how rioting & looting begin.
If everyone would have followed the guidelines in the beginning we would be at a better place. After one of the demonstrations in another state the COVID-19 cases went up from those yelling and screaming while protesting. They could at least wear a mask.

I do not walk into a store of any kind without a mask on. In fact, I started wearing a mask a couple of days before it was recommended by our government to do so. I do not wear a mask, however, when riding in my golf cart. Just wondering why you feel it necessary to wear a mask when social distancing is a piece of cake when riding in a golf cart. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't know.

I agree with your assessment. I believe Chatbrat was making the point that Villagers of all income levels who are sheltering in place, in the comfort of their homes, are much better off than Anne Frank was for the 2 plus years she was in hiding. None of us is in fear of being rounded up, forced out of our homes, and sent to slave labor or to be tortured or die in a concentration camp.Furthermore, considering that it is Holocaust Remembrance Day, it is a relevant post.

If you read all my posts I warned you to start wearing a mask way before the CDC did and also how far virus particles can spread from sneezes, coughs, and just plain talking. Probably saved a few people from getting sick if they listened.

Well I too live alone and don't have alot of connections with town clubs, etc. I don't like giving to big organizations cause I think a bunch of money goes to pay for salaries who work there, so I thought about it and wondered what I could do to give to someone who needs help who I do not even know. The idea came to me to just get some cash and put it in someone's mailbox or hand it to someone at the grocery store. I asked God to lead me to the first person, which meant I had to get in my car and drive a bit away......... I knew exactly where I was to go. Darn, no mailbox on the curb, not on the door front either. So I knocked and while I waited, I noticed the window to the side was broken, cigarette butts in a plastic bucket to the right, and a woman with a couple of children came to the door. When she opened it I told her I was told to bring this to her and gave her the envelope. She looked at me kinda funny, like she was trying to figure out who sent this and I said, "Here you go, I just said I'd bring this by. Have a great day and stay safe." .....and then left. I will never see her again, but now I know at least one person knows someone cares about her, and that is what we each need to know. I have typed this not to toot my own horn, but to challenge each of you to do that kind of thing too. Give to someone who is a perfect stranger and know that God will deliver to him/her what truly is needed. Have a great day and do your part to make this a better planet.

Regarding the question "why wear a mask" in a golf cart. My reason: You are riding thru a number of walkers, bike riders, and stopping in line with other carts. The 6 foot rule is probably not that critical BUT if someone cough's or sneeze's to their left or right that travels not 6 feet but 27 feets and that does make for an exposure. What the heck it is not that bad to wear one and "why not"? :ho:
