How Far do you travel in TV?

We are coming down to settle on our dream home. TV has grown so much we can't even figure out how many miles across it is either way. How far do you travel and still stay in TV? By golf cart how many minutes does it take to get to the farthest golf course from your house 20 minutes? 45 minutes?

Somewhere I've seen figures on actually mileage, but have no idea where. Sorry!

I think that 13 miles from CR466A (current south boundary) to CR42 (north boundary) is very close to reality (via Buena Vista). Much less east-west wide; maybe 6 miles.

Personal examples: my house in Sunset Pointe is 8.5 miles from Mulberry Grove Rec Center at the far northern reaches of TV. I wouldn't even consider trying to take my golf car that far!

But a friend who sometimes attends the same meeting at Mulberry and lives in St. Charles - futher southwest than me - has taken his Street Legal electric there. 40 minutes.

I live in the Marion county - far north end. For golf, Pimlico/Belmont/Churchill Greens is the farthest south I travel (about 15-20 minutes). I refuse to travel longer than it takes to golf.

I will venture to Mira Mesa/Chula Vista/Hilltop/Silver Lake (30 minutes) but since I will not leave the clubs on the cart while I eat these courses have become less desirable.

For entertainment, I travel to the two squares (about a thirty minute ride).
I will go to the restaurants in Buffalo Ridge if I feel like it (30 minutes).

A lot of the reasons I take the car inside the Villages is for shopping. I do not trust leaving packages, etc in the cart while I eat or do other shopping.

I have a Publix, Walgreen's, Kindred Spirits, Citizens Bank on rt 42 which I normally use the cart - especially since I got a shopping bag for the cart.

I guess the real question is how far do you want to travel by cart? You should be able to make it anywhere in TV and back in an electric or gas cart. But if I was getting a place in the far south of TV and I was planning on many trips - riding, shopping, golfing, I think a gas cart would be better for the very long distance travel.

First, we are retired, what dose time mean? We live in Bonita, very close to 466A, I play Lopez takes 45 minutes by cart. The cart ride is fun.

I enjoy riding in/ driving the cart. We live on the north end and will go to any of the golf courses in a cart. That said, we prefer the northside courses, and that was the biggest factor in our decision to buy on the northside. Golfing is the one place we really need to take the cart vs. the car. Anyplace else, it's optional. :)

You can go anywhere in a cart. The paths are usually scenic and the breeze feels great in the summer. I've met lots of wonderful people when I'm lost, they always get me pointed in the right direction. If you start with a full charge(electric) you can go anywhere, play 18 holes, no problem getting home. We leave things in our cart and have never had a problem.

I live in Caroline near LSL and play golf on the northern courses frequently. We have a ladies group that plays on Fridays and it's not often we get courses close to our village. Amberwood takes a while to get to, but getting there, playing golf, eating lunch and driving home doesn't use all the charge on my electric cart. Takes about 35-40 minutes to get that far north, there are shortcuts taken.

I think a realistic estimate to travel by golf cart from the extreme north-western area near Rt. 42 or Amberwood to the extreme south-eastern area near Roosevelt or Colony Cottage Recreation Center on Rt. of Rt. 466A would take a minimum of 1 to 1.25 hours depending on traffic and the speed of your cart. Add another 15 minutes to get to Brownwood, the new town square, when it is completed.

That seems about right if you do the math:

A 19.5 cart probably averages 15mph when considering lights, stops, traffic etc. It's about 15-17 miles with twists and turns from 42 to Colony.

Wouldn't want that commute every day but once in a while is OK.

We use our carts to get around for just about everything. Whether it is in LSL or SS or even to Orange Blossom we love getting around that way. From our house to Lopez is almost 15 miles, by cart path, and it takes us 40 minutes. Of course if we have company or need to venture "off property" then we will use the car.

With how spread out TV is, is traffic manageable? How would you rate your traffic experience. It's the only thing that makes me a little leery about moving there. It's about twice the size of where I grew up.

Traffic moves smoothly, even in the winter when the size of the community increases. There are main streets where you'll find most of the traffic and then there are the neighborhood streets, where traffic is usually made up of residents of those neighborhoods plus work vehicles of contractors working in those areas.

After living with freeways that were far from it....traffic just stopped so many times, and surface streets that were just as clogged, traffic here is sooooooo much better. You'll just have to come and visit a few times... ;) and see for yourself. Come, enjoy!

:duck: I do have a plan. My son starts college this year, and my daughters(twins) the next year. After a few years, or when they are done, I am planning on renting in July to see if I like it (I'm a school teacher so I have off). If I like it, which from all accounts it sounds like I should, I will continue and maybe expand my visits until it is time to retire.

I was really surprised at how well the traffic moves within TV. Once you get off the main highways, such as 27/441 and 301 everything moves very well. Outside of the bubble on the main routes it gets pretty slow, especially during rush hour in the snowbird season. Within TV, no problem at all.
Someone did a remarkable job in designing the TV roadways for easy traffic flow.
