Phased reopening of The Villages starting 4/27 per an email from the Property Owners Association reporting this info
District Action Plan
April 22, 2020 5:00 p.m.
The safety of residents, guests, staff and visitors in The Villages community continues to be of utmost importance to the District. As the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Florida Department of Health and Governor DeSantis on the prevention of COVID-19 continues to update, the District will be implementing a carefully phased plan to slowly and safely reopen recreational amenities.
Phase I – April 27th through May 3rd
District Recreation & Parks staff will return to work the week of April 27 to May 3 to further clean and prep facilities.
Efforts will include utilizing tables and chairs to establish 6 foot buffers in room layouts and swimming pool areas, so social distancing may be actively practiced.
While residents will not have access to additional facilities this week, it will provide District staff the opportunity to prepare for
Phase II.
Phase II – begins May 4th (if approved by local, state and federal agencies) and will continue through the month of May
Recreational activities that meet criteria of specific health department guidelines will begin opening. Some of the criteria taken into consideration will include limited exposure, high respiration activities, activity interaction and the interaction of persons/objects. While we are still evaluating which facilities will open, you can expect to see the following:
Limited facility use
Special social spacing accommodations
All facilities will close by 8:00 p.m. to afford staff time for next day cleaning and preparation
Villages IDs will be checked and cashless Trail Fee services will continue
The District Administrative Offices at Lake Sumter Landing will open on an appointment only basis beginning May 11th. Appointments can be made by emailing the following departments.

Phase III – Not anticipated to take effect until after the month of May (dependent upon health guidelines from local, state & federal agencies)
Will include opening non-regional recreation centers, additional outdoor facilities and a full opening of District Administrative offices.
At this time, it is not anticipated that there will be any recreation sponsored or co-sponsored large events.
The District is currently working to identify exactly which recreation facilities and activities will resume during each phase. We continue to encourage you to follow all guidance provided by the CDC as is relates to social distancing and individual responsibilities pertaining to personal preparedness.

So if pool chairs are being arranged with 6 foot buffers, maybe our pools will reopen on May 4th?

So if pool chairs are being arranged with 6 foot buffers, maybe our pools will reopen on May 4th?
Pool chairs are easily moved, especially when there are folks who live in the same household want to sit together. I don't know how they are going to maintain social distancing at the pools that have pool loungers.

Sounds logical to me that the pools would open. You'll have 6 ft spacing and the pool has chemicals (I'll assume chlorine) that should help with any bacteria or virus. (notice I said "should")

Many (most? All? Not sure) pools in the Villages are salt-water pools. The salt is converted to chlorine in the filtering process but no actual chlorine is added.
It means less chlorine overall, which is less damaging to the skin and to bathing suits, while still maintaining a strong level of bacteria-killing agents.
I don't know enough about pool chemistry to say for sure, but if the actual chlorine content is higher than the water that comes out of your kitchen sink, I'm guessing it'll be safe to swim in it.
The "questionable" water - would be the wastewater used for irrigation in parts of the Villages.

Chlorine in the pools should kill the virus in the water. The problem is everything you touch getting in or out of the pool, someone coughing close by, passing closer than 6 feet on the pool deck, etc.
I’d love to be able to use the pools again but I’m not sure if it can be done safely.

IMHO, being “pool police” sounds like a horrible job. They’re going to need someone at each pool the entire time it’s open unless TV decides to just let ‘er rip.
Sounds like a huge liability.

Nope!
When you add chlorine disinfectant to water, a chemical reaction occurs and a weak acid called hypochlorous acid is released. This acid is able to penetrate the cell walls of microbes like bacteria and viruses, so it can attack and kill germs effectively.
"Chlorine-based disinfectants are very effective against a wide range of viruses and bacteria, and under the right conditions even parasites," says Mary Ostrowski, senior director of chlorine issues at the American Chemistry Council.

If you are hesitant about the boundaries at the pools then just don't go! Others who may enjoy the activities there can take the "risk".

And from the CDC website:
“There is no evidence that COVID-19 can be spread to humans through the use of pools, hot tubs or spas, or water playgrounds. Proper operation, maintenance, and disinfection (e.g., with chlorine and bromine) of pools, hot tubs or spas, and water playgrounds should inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.“

From the CDC:
"What to do if you own pets
Until we learn more about how this virus affects animals, treat pets as you would other human family members to protect them from a possible infection.
Do not let pets interact with people or other animals outside the household.
Keep cats indoors when possible to prevent them from interacting with other animals or people.
Walk dogs on a leash, maintaining at least 6 feet (2 meters) from other people and animals.
Avoid dog parks or public places where a large number of people and dogs gather."

I think it’s impossible to correlate degree of risk to chronology of the outbreak. Look at numbers all you want but, essentially, nothing has changed to miraculously make things ok now. People believe what they want to believe. I hope the optimists are correct.
For example, some folks think if they wear a mask, they don’t need to keep six feet distance. People are sick of all this but the fact remains it only takes one time.
Now they’re going to think they’re completely safe if outside in sun and humidity.
