Several people have referenced an article in the WSJ regarding the coming surge of Covid-19 cases in the villages, so I decided to post a daily update on the surge. Since there is no separate reporting for the Villages specifically, I decided to combine the numbers from the 3 counties that include portions of the villages, as reported by the Daily Sun. It's not perfect, but its a pretty good representation of the overall trends in our part of central Florida.

4/24/20 update:

Tri county area:

Total cases: 528, up 18 or 3.5%
Total fatalities: 24 up 3 or 12.5%

Sumter county:

Total cases: 166, up 2 or 1.2%
Fatalities: 12 up 1or 8.3% This is the first fatality we have in over a week.

It looks like most of the new cases were in Marion County, which accounted for 15 of the 18 new cases.

Someone mentioned sorting the new cases in Sumter county by age. John's Hopkins does a pretty good job of breaking out the fatalities by cohort (thanks to my wife for doing the research), and as near as I can tell 11 of the 12 fatalities were in the 80+ age group. One victim was 60 years old, but did not specify if she had any pre-existing conditions.

Stay safe and be reasonable

I think we need a verified treatment plan and vaccine
Our government should fund all reasonable grants and offer a billion dollar award to any entity that can protect, treat or defeat this illness

The Florida Dept. of Public Health’s website has a daily report of cases by city and county. Today it lists 69 cases in The Villages in Sumter County and 7 cases in The Villages in Lake County, for a total of 76. Seems like it misses cases of Villagers whose address is in another city, such as Wildwood or Lady Lake.
This website also has twice-daily updates by county or zip code (not by city). The county info is in the “dashboard” listed at the top and near the bottom of the website. The city report is the second “report” listed at the bottom. You’ll find this site (floridahealth.gov) if you Google “fl coronavirus.” This site was lauded by Dr. Deborah Birx in one of the president’s daily briefings.

This Florida DOH site should make your stats a bit easier to gather as well as your wife's: Florida Covid Stats (https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/96dd742462124fa0b38ddedb9b25e429) The colorful bars on top is age distribution. Lots of data. By ZIP, by county, # of tests. Click image to enlarge.
