There were a couple here in TV many years ago. For some reason they did not survive/thrive.

Yes, it is. Found it in Leesburg some time in March-when COVID was “nothing to worry about” and restaurants were closing their indoor seating for TWO weeks. The indoor area was closed, but the drive--through was open. It was like an oasis in a desert!

We need more fat inducing opportunities. Dairy Queen ice cream is made from a skim milk based dried mix and then reconstituted with water. It does not come in a pre-mixed form. Hence it’s profit Is huge. But once you dip or load with toppings most people can’t tell it’s not the real deal

A well managed Dairy Queen should have done a good business here in The villages. Obviously, poorly managed.
Not a management problem in this instance. It was very close to Ollie's store and all the Villagers went there instead of Dairy Queen. It was there in 2001 but only lasted a year or two due to it's location. Everyone was intent on supporting a locally owned business apparently. I was very sorry to see it go.

If you like ice cream made with reconstituted powdered skim milk then DQ is for you....their product is cheap to make, labor cost low and mark-up high. That's why Warren Buffet bought it.
Dairy Queen legally can't call its product ice cream. They call it "soft serve" - well, that could be Crisco. The FDA says to be considered an "ice cream" the product must contain "not less than 10 percent milkfat, nor less than 10 percent nonfat milk solids."

I think the previous poster was referring to the DQ that was at Southern Trace, it's in the exact same building now occupied by Culverts that went out of Business about 2010. It was the one that went out of business due to poor management. I spoke to a waitress at Chilis and she use to work there. Apparently an absentee owner, who had too many young kids working and no one in charge. Same problem with the Krystal Hamburger that went out of business in Leesburg last year. When you ordered, it was like an inconvenience to them to fill your order. BTW, I got a sundae at Ollie's at SS about year ago, and I thought it was terrible.

Thanks for letting us know. It's important that all of us understand that there are Villagers who are willing to put others (as well as themselves) at risk to satisfy their own personal needs. Irresponsibility and inconsideration for fellow villagers is alive and well. Yes, in these cases, they do walk among us.

My $.02
There are 2 types of possibilities, one is that a franchisee is going to open it up and the other would be a corporate run store. If it's a franchisee (that knows what they're doing) then they should stand a good chance. They most likely will do whatever is necessary to ensure its success. With a manager from a corporation in charge with no vested interest, it might not be managed so well.
Perhaps this location for this type of business will bear the needed traffic in order for it's success/survival.
Perhaps the location on 466 didn't have the demographics for that particular business, yes many vehicles passed by but how many potential customers were not going down 466? Now Culvers is a unique business and has a huge following. Where DQ isn't anything special. Just my opinion.
US 301 has a much different traffic demographic and potentially could grab more passerby customers to ensure its opportunity for success.
Not every business wants/needs to be a golf cart accessible business.
If a franchisee is attempting to open up during this difficult time, I wish them well and hope for their success.

Unless they include a traffic light in that intersection North bound customers will have to travel to the next left turn cut out and do a flip........and when leaving head South to do a flip to get back.

I could care less, it tastes good to me. Maybe ice cream not ice and cream?
DQ tastes good to me too. I know it isn't ice cream and I would imagine it contains less fat and calories than a really good quality ice cream.
My favorite treat from DQ is their Peanut Buster Parfait with vanilla soft serve, Spanish peanuts and the most delicious decadent hot chocolate fudge layered in the parfait.

For me the best soft serve Ice Cream is " Carvel " it is far superior than " DQ " especially the chocolate.
The DQ chocolate is like milk chocolate ugh.
Sadly the Carvel in the Target Plaza closed due to the arrest of the owner.
