Believe, all buffets will be history after Covid & bars will have very limited seating
Can't imagine how a place like the Golden Coral can reopen--the public will be scared stiff to set foot in the place

I don't know when I will eat at a restaurant again, takeout only. I don't plan to ever fly or cruise again, at least not until there is a vaccine.

Time will tell. My prediction is that things will return to normal, and people will do what they did before.
And using your argument, I'm assuming you think people won't attend large scale sporting events, or visit the theme parks.

A lot will depend on what new regulations are passed by the government/politicians to reduce any possible spread of viruses in the future. A current example would be the fire code limitation of the max seating capacity in public places. Will a new virus max capacity be established where the lesser of the two is now the new max seating capacity. I believe this scenario is a possible outcome of the Covad-19 outbreak.
Time will tell.

Which reduces revenue which blows out the buinsess plans which results in higher prices which reduces the revenue (it is The Villages way) which reduces the business plans. Also means fewer jobs available. There is a core of folks here that believe in herd immunity and will take the risk.....my prediction is that it won't take long after a vaccine is developed for the new normal to become close to the old normal.

Disney is already saying it will go buffet-less. Thats OK because they make more money on table service. Buffets are break even at best. The hybrid model of serving stations may be adopted, but not the lines of 30 kinds of bread, 20 salads and s thin slice of allegedly prime rib

Nothing new for me. I never liked eating at a buffet restaurant.

Just using the observation of the very high percentage of residents that do not follow/respect social distancing and mask guidelines.....there are enough of them to not be "scared" off from the normal......hence restaurants and bars will survive.

Too much doom and gloom. Today is a beautiful day to sit outside, soak up the sun, enjoy the fresh air and hopefully experience an attitude adjustment. And yes, I am outside while writing this🤗

We never saw a buffet till we retired to Fl in 95'--the Admiral said lets try a buffet--don't remember the name- we were in line, saw a pre-teen-put his spoon in a desert eat and double dip--got a refund & have never set foot in any buffet after that

If human behaviors were effectively swayed by health warnings, we wouldn't have smokers, soda pop drinkers, red meat eaters, or crack heads.

My prediction is that most of us will shrug this off in a few months and just continue life. Kind of like we do each flu season. A small percentage will continue to be very cautious.
I sincerely hope the government does not use this as incentive to impose new restrictions. Time will tell.

I see nothing but good coming from the restaurant situation. Fewer restaurants, better seating, better food, quieter environment, safer food preparation, and more people eating healthier. Some employees will lose their job, but the ones who remain will probably make more money. Hopefully, the others will retrain and find a better job. Where's the problem?

I vote for the return of the cafeteria!
Remember someone actually serving you a spoonful (portion) of this and a serving of that?
Go to the cashier and pay then sit & eat then return your tray.

Personally I didn't work so hard at healing from open heart surgery the last year to hide at home from a virus that may find me or may not. I will wash my hands often, keep getting my flu shots, pay attention to my surroundings then live my life exactly like I have planned the last 8 years and if God wants me he always knows where I am.. Didn't Sars just up and disappear one day never to be seen again?

1) The 1st World War 1914-1918
2) The 1918 Pandemic 20,000 people died in Philadelphia alone.
3) The Great Depression 1929 late 30's.
4) Followed by World War 2
Now think of that and think of Covid 19.....

My husband served in the military and worked part- time managing O Clubs,, etc, on various bases. Primarily in Virginia Beach and Tampa Fl. He always told me that if people ever saw what went on in the kitchens of restaurants, they would never eat out again. I don't want to know, I love to eat out so I never looked. My sister, who has been employed for many years at a 5 Star restaurant on top of the mount in Pittsburgh, Pa, agrees with him, lol.

I'm pessimistic about the Mexican restaurant in Southern Trace (in the space that used to be Crispers); it hardly had any customers in the best of times.
China Buffet is also a question mark, but they've hung in for years with maybe 10-15 customers at a time. They weren't even bothering to offer take out last time I checked.
Personal taste/opinions about the food aside, they represent somebody's dreams, hard work, and livelihood. I always feel a pang when small businesses close.

OK, here's a comment: I loved to eat at cafeterias, especially Luby's in Texas. Everything cooked from scratch. Desserts to die for. Cafeterias were a feature of the South, but I guess they're gone for good.

The worst buffets are on cruise ships. I have seen foreigners ( I won't say which countries but one begins with a C and the other one with an I ) reach in with their bare hands, or take a piece on a serving spoon, sniff it, then put it back...and don't even get me started on the soft serve ice cream machine at the back with all the little urchins rubbing their hands all over...if I do go on a cruise it will be table service only for me.

The trouble with this thinking is if you get sick you can pass it on to others It’s ok if you want to take a risk, but you also choose to put others at risk. We need to think about the community as well as ourselves

I have never given flu season even half a thought. I've never had a flu shot and have never had the flu. To be honest, until this latest pandemic, I never knew people died from the flu. Honestly did not know!!!
