Please do not post an answer unless this pertains to you and you can give me the logic behind why this is a common practice that you do. I do not want to hear “we go again”.....
First, I love dogs, have had many, man’s best friend
1. Why do you drive your car or cart up to the postal center to do their business and for no other purpose. I see the same people do this three or four times a day.
2. Why is it that you come to get your mail and get your dog out of your cart or car to do their business?
3. Why do you drive your cart and let the dog try to keep up with you along the street knowing you can not get out and pick up the business?
4. Why don’t you walk your dog to do their business in your own yard?
I am perfectly okay with people walking their dogs in the neighborhoods and am even acceptive if they have to do business ( you never know when nature is going to call) in my yard, as long as they pick it up. We all need exercise and fresh air, our pets included.
Am anxious to hear only from those that use the above as a common practice. If you do not have anything nice to say with a logical explanation, please do not post. My understanding is that the postal center is for a place to pick up your mail, socialize with neighbors and enjoy the amenities adjacent such as shuffleboard etc. They are amenities provided and paid for by the residents, they are not dog parks.
Thank you.
Well, that is the most optimistic expectation I've ever seen on TOTV. You don't really think you'll get nothing but logical and polite responses? Here, on TOTV????:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
Full disclosure---I don't walk my dog at postal stations. (OOPS, based on your criteria, I shouldn't have posted. So sorry.)

This is from the VCDD website...
“Pet Owners
Please be considerate of others and all properties. Dog owners are responsible for picking up after their pets. Please take all waste home for disposal. Do not use storm drains, postal or recreation facilities for disposing of solid waste or plastic bags. In addition, please follow all county ordinances including all dogs are required to be on a leash. “

Golfingeagles, you are so right. The bait was too tempting. At the time I started this reply there were 4 posts after yours. One was what seemed like a snarky come back.
Next a simple reply of VCDD request. Then came two responses that seemed rather aggressive.
It seems like the poor OP may never get a civil, honest answer to a civil, simple question.

So, 217 views, 5 posts. I guess these are the guilty ones that don’t have an answer other than they are entitled to do whatever they want. Except for one, the other replies are sarcastic, mean, disrespectful, childhood mentality, can not follow instructions, lawful quotes like they know it all.... chastising a longtime Villager that was curious about what obviously is a huge problem here. Thank you for reminding me of how many nasty people there are out in this world, even in a time when kindness and respect are the what we all need.
Yep, basically what I told you to expect. And I did apologize for not "following instructions"

Is this really true? What if pet owners want to take a stroll with their pets and pass the mail station on their way home. They can not pick up their mail if they have their dog with them?

As expected:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:
But not really a simple question. Reading between the lines, the OP would appear to dislike dogs being walked at the postal stations. He then goes on to challenge those dog owners to give an explanation, with a set of HIS rules to respond. I doubt the group that walks their dogs at the mailboxes would consider that a "civil question(s)" He then gave another set of HIS rules to exclude non-postal station dog walkers from replying. I was unaware that a poster could define the rules of TOTV. If he was truly looking to get a legitimate answer, there are much better ways to word the question. Perhaps "I notice some dog owners walk their dogs at the postal stations and some don't . Can people explain why they do or do not walk their dogs there?" I also think it was sort of naïve for "a long time Villager" to expect 50,000+ members of TOTV to abide by HIS rules.
But perhaps the reality of TOTV was too harsh for someone with 12 posts in 8 years, maybe I should have worded this better

Hm, I guess I sort of almost fit the parameters of the rules laid down by the OP... First, NO it's not true that the neighborhoods south of 44 ban dogs from the postal areas. Where did you hear/see that? Second, when we walk the dog to the postal station to get our mail (maybe 1-2 times a week, in lieu of walking her around the block like we usually do), she occasionally does her business there. We pick it up and dispose of it at home in the little can with a lid we keep in the garage for that purpose between track pickups. Perhaps there are people who go to the postal stations JUST so their dogs can do their business, but that's something I've never seen. Not that I spend a lot of time hanging out at the postal station.
There. Civil enough?

I do not take my dog to the postal station but to the pool area in back of the pool and to the parking lot grass area way out side of the pool itself. If he relieves himself I pick it up. There are no signs. There are hundreds of places with no signs like anywhere on the side of the road:boxing2:. I then put my dog back on the cart and go get my mail. If you don't like this then go live some where else or get use to it .

- Therefore, one can walk their dog at the postal centers.

90% of the mail we get now days is trash. In this day and age we do bills and most transactions on line.
We could do very easily with mail delivery once or twice a week. This way we will not have all the traffic at the mail houses with all this worry and concern that comes with picking up the mail.
The USPS loses billion$ every year but that is a whole different subject.

If you stop and think for a moment you can come up with several reasonable choices. Irresponsible pet owners. Cleaning up is distasteful and they don't want to do it. Not in their yard. At least it's not anyone's yard. Entitlement. Any or all of these could apply. But you're on a fools errand if you are looking for a serious answer on this forum. Like Spiro Agnew characterized, the majority are "nattering nabobs of negativism."

I believe people take their dogs to beautiful open spaces as we all pay amenity fees that include open spaces. Currently, dog parks are closed. I don't go to dog parks because there are too many people and dogs and my dog gets distracted by other dogs. We do walk our dog in our neighborhood as well. And we always pick up his poop and discard it back home. Those areas also allow a dog, on leash, to run a bit, something they really can't do on a walk in a neighborhood or in their own yard. Those areas are for everyone's pleasure.

Probably because some people complained about dogs crapping in the grass areas of the postal stations north of Route 44. When they started building the new areas, TV management decided to ban dogs from the recreation areas like Willow Tree.
Since the mail boxes are within the recreation areas, I guess that means you cannot have your dog with you when you go to check your mail.

It is disgusting to see a dog owner walk his/her dog at the Postal stations and to also allow them to do their business on someone else's property. We had a dog for years and would never allow it. Don't the challenged dog owners know they also carry diseases and
this spreads them. As I say there is no cure for "stupid". No way will these notes convince them to stop but rather cause them to be more aggressive. Just look at some of the responses to this thread. Enough said. :ohdear:

I really do understand the writers stance on the subject but unfortunately most people don’t want other people’s pets doing that business in their yards. All day and night wild animals and birds are also doing their business at will so for me as long as the owners pick up and dispose of the waste at their own home I don’t see the issue well, except for the ones are that won’t pick it up😤

1. How are you able to see multiple people do this four times a day - are you a postal station stalker?
2. After any car or cart ride, maybe due to nerves, my dog needs to pee or poop (I pick it up always)
3. If my dog was riding beside my cart, perhaps to give him exercise the driver is unable to - the dog isn't going to poop/pee at a full run. He will do it when the run ends and then they can pick it up.
4. Dogs peeing in your own yard will usually go to the same place every time and that can eventually kill the grass.

I don't understand why pet owners can't let their dogs relieve themselves on their own property THEN take them to the postal station or where ever they want to go for a walk and get exercise.
We don't have a dog now but were dog owners for 32 years (2 different dogs). I never, ever took my dogs out anywhere to relieve themselves other than the potty area on our property. I walked them on their leashes to an area I prepared for them. This area was surrounded by bricks or pavers and I put soft shredded mulch in the area. This was super comfortable for their paws. I replenished the mulch to maintain a nice potty area for them
When we took walks, I always carried a bag to pick up after them. I never knew when the urge would strike them even after they had pooped in their prepared potty area on our own property. That rarely happened but at least, I was prepared. Marking their spot with urine, however, always happened on the walks. Male dogs!

Well, let me clarify a few things to the haters, the bullies, the nasty attitudes and sarcastic comments that I have received.
1. I am not a novice user of TOTV. I spend my days playing golf, pickleball, walking and a member of many clubs here in TV. I live on the golf course with a pool and lanai which to me, along with all the other things life has to offer in TV, is heaven on earth. Being home now, I was curious to find out what the attraction was to taking a dog to the postal center surroundings to do their business.
2. I live adjacent to the postal center and have a clear view of the Postal Center, amenities area, parking lot and the pool, along with the golf course that backs up to it.
3. When I first moved here, it was a gathering place for all the neighborhood to enjoy. We would get out and sit on benches, watch the sunsets, place shuffleboard and corn toss.
4. Over the years, they have replaced the sod four times. No one goes there anymore because it has become a dog park. We don’t take our grandchildren up there anymore because it is crowded and the residue from dogs urinating and defecating is not a healthy environment for them to play in the grass and pick up corn bags.

And if you go by that pictured sign, you can’t ride your bike or drive your golf cart to get your mail either . So if you live down there you can only drive your car or walk. If you actually live there, don’t let us see you in your cart :boom:

Then the question of enforcement has to be asked.
Dogs are certainly allowed in the postal areas. The sign is referring to the recreation area behind the postal building. Personally checked it out for myself just now in McClure and it clearly states this.

:ohdear:
At least the majority of the owners pick up after their pets. The wild animals we have here could spread more diseases than domestic pets. Maybe we should ban wildlife or make them pick up after themselves.

5. Now, with limited access at certain times and little monitoring, some dog owners are now letting their dogs loose on the golf course playing frisbee and doing business on the greens.

Curious to know which postal area you live by. Willowtree's sign clearly states no dogs for the recreation area. There is no reference what-so-ever to the postal station.

[QUOTE=VApeople;1754621]No.
Go to any postal station in The Villages south of 44. You will see a sign showing a leashed dog with a line through it.
I have Chihuahua can't :read: English
I did go and the sign says. RECREATION AREA - no dogs. It is not referring to the postal station and is placed is front of the recreation area, not the postal station. There is no sign at Willowtree postal banning dogs.

I walk my dog to the mailboxes every now and then as destination for my walk and back. I have a theory for you...
I think dog owners bring their dogs in their carts to pick up mail because they know others who go at the same time. It allows the dogs AND their pawrents the opportunity to “socialize” for a few minutes as well. Dogs need socialization, and many don’t go to dog parks. I don’t think they go just for a place for the dogs to do their business, but with some people...ya never know.

I’m can fully understand your feelings, my local postal station and adjoining pool area can be easily confused with a dog park. I like dogs, even had a few in my life, but a great number of dog owners in TV are hard to like.
You would never know that the owners have a home with grass areas. I’ve lived in a lot of different communities over the years, but I’ve never experienced dog owner behavior as I have in TV.

Male dogs!
If you read what you wrote, you’ll realize that your LAST paragraph clearly answers your own question in the first paragraph. Between TOTV and NDN, people (even pet owners) get all bent out of shape about dogs relieving themselves on their property and elsewhere.
The answer to everyone who wonders, asks, is just curious, or complains about is exactly what you wrote:
“I never knew when the urge would strike them even after they had pooped in their prepared potty area on our own property.”
They think you should pull your dog away if they start to... the dogs should do it in the street instead (can’t even rinse the residue... so that’s better? ) They say that if they’re properly trained, the should NEVER do it....
If a couple of dogs are there when you’re there, I’m sure it isn’t ALL time, and it isn’t a PACK of dogs. People just like to rant about it and make it sound as if the mailbox areas have become the new local dog parks and, as a result, there’s a TON of poop that NO ONE picks up. Oh, c’mon now! Exaggeration runs rampant. If there are many dogs there on a regular basis you might have something to complain about...if complaining is your thing.

You are correct. The postal stations are a place to socialize and our dogs need to socialize as well. My typical practice is that when I pick up my mail my dog comes with me. Sometimes we walk, sometimes we take the golf cart. She adores the cart! My friends bring their dogs and they get to see their “friends”. Should my dog poop while there I ALWAYS pick it up. I have a poop bag dispenser on her leash. I wish I could say they about everyone in my community but sadly I cannot. It is so annoying to everyone who is civil. My dog has free access to our yard, but I will continue to take her to the postal station. I am uncertain as to why you find fault with that especially since you are a dog lover like me. When I was looking at houses here my realtor told me that a dog was the best way to make friends here. Perhaps you can explain why this bothers you because I honestly don’t understand.

Do you live south of 44? I do and I go to the Willow Tree mail station every day and there are no such signs there, never have been. I just got back from driving to 5 mail stations in Fenney, De Soto, McClure, and Monarch Grove, there are NO signs there like you describe. I did not drive to Marsh Bend as this was a fool's errand. Who told you there were signs?
There is a sign at the Linden postal station clearly showing a picture of a dog on a leash with a line through it. It is at the bottom of the sign for the Postal/recreation area.

We take our dog with us to the post office every day. She knows where she's going when we say "let's go get the mail". We always pick up after her and bring it home. She especially likes it when other dogs are there. Dogs like to socialize too! Have a great day. Be safe. 🥰

Your comment about sums it up, you and many other dog owners treat the mail station /rec areas as a dog park which they are not!
Read the dog owner comments and you will realize why many residents feel the postal staion/rec areas have become dog parks!
They do it so they DON'T have to pick up their doggie's poop. I've seen it many times at my postal station.

Items 3, 4, 5 tell it all. Your experience is nothing new. It is an example of how one group of individuals take over something and subvert it for their own purpose rather than the purpose it was intended for. If not corrected immediately they assume that it is now their right to use as they see fit and they become offended and aggressive in defending their usurped turf, not unlike a gang taking over a neighborhood. Imagine a group of dog owners taking over the pickle ball courts because they provide a safe, enclosed place for dogs and turning them into dog parks. They would have no clue why the pickle ballers would object to sharing their space. Same clueless mentality.

We take our dog to the postal station everyday. He loves going there and my husband can run with him in the grass we don’t use dog parks due to health risks to dogs from other dogs. We don’t let our dog run i
On the hot road surface. Because we don’t want his paw pads to get burned. Look this up online and you will see how painful it is for your dog. The grassy area by the mailbox I’d perfect for our dog to run on a leash. We pick up any deposits he makes and bring them home to flush them away we do not throw them in the trash can at the postal station nor would we find that acceptable. Remember our dogs need to get out and get exercise just like we do if you are respectful of the area you take your dog snd the people who are around I don’t think it matters much where that is.

Your first paragraph says it all...you use the postal station as a dog park, and are you that naive to believe that no other dog owners are using that station to!
Some of the dog owner rationalizations are simply unbelievable!

Is it possible there are people who don't understand what a picture of something (such as a dog) with a line through it means? Just a thought.
There is also a picture of a bicyclist with a line through it and a picture of a golf cart with a line through it. Do you really think that a community that bills itself as a golf cart community would ban golf carts at the postal station? Get serious, that sign is at the entrance to the shuffleboard and corn toss area and those items plus dogs are barred from that area.:ohdear:

Thank you.
I love dogs. I have enjoyed the companionship of dogs since a young boy. It is some owners who give dogs a bad name. I have found when you have this ongoing problem it is a good idea to get a good "game camera" from an outdoor store or mail order. The higher megapixel the better. Record the offenders and post the pictures, or file a complaint with the authorities. Perhaps they will get their act together.
