Either dog parks will be last to open, or many will just not let their fur baby have play dates

The positive dog case, a Pug, got it from his family. Not sure if it can pass from dog to human, or dog to dog.

typically it's species specific. years ago i was a veterinary technician. corona is a virus frequently found in certain breeds, especially pugs. there has been a vaccine for dog corona as long as i can remember, & those with certain pet breeds will have their vet recommend it. our pug gets it every year along with distemper.

Dr. Fauci said they are not aware of dogs/cats transmission to humans and yes, my dog gets a shot every year for the virus. Entirely different virus in pets.

I checked with my Vet weeks ago upon hearing of a dog contacting Corona virus. She said that it is different disease in dogs and that it has been around for years. Our dog was vaccinated against that long ago but I hadn't realized.

The CDC appears to be in conflict with your statement.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is recommending people follow the same social distancing guidelines with their pets as they would human family members after a small number of animals, including dogs and cats, were reportedly infected with the virus that causes COVID-19.

If you can transmit this virus to a door handle I sure a sick person can place the virus on a dogs fur...
They say you can pickup the virus on your shoes, so how about these dogs walking the streets to pee and crap on someone else's grass then go and lick someones face.....

The Coronavirus has been around for a very long time and dogs have had a vaccine for years. COVID-19 is a new strain of Coronavirus. I wonder if this news story is simply another way to make us worry and if this dog actually had COVID-19 or plain old Coronavirus? As for me and my dog...well, she’s on my lap as I’m writing this. Stay safe everyone.

I love my pets but how are Vets getting test kits when human testing is still amazingly low? UF Health has stopped testing in The Villages due to lack of test kits!

Remember the post with the picture of the full garbage can near the Picnic Area across from Paradise Dog Park near Lake Paradise and all the heat that was thrown about this that or the other thing. Until this is over keep Rover on your very Own Property for Bathroom Purposes. Don't put the Community at risk.
I love most Dog's with all my heart. Some Dog Owners are not that bright. Now it's an issue about keeping not only other human's but also YOUR DOG SAFE. Let's see if things change for the better.

I ran this by Mikey. (our cat) and he said, that's fine with me Karen, but you had better pet me when I'm in the mood.

I am sure that was not your intent just as I am sure it was really unhappy news for all who share their lives with pets.

I love animals, but people not as much. If you allow your dog to mess on anyone else's lawn, then it is YOUR fault if it catches the virus, not the yard owner. Maybe some of you might think about that regarding other diseases also. If you really care for your pets as much as you all claim, then you should be more prudent in keeping them disease free. Or, maybe I just care more about my pets than others?

Thank you. Do you think Walmart will stop allowing pets in their store? I was there yesterday, not only did I see obvious pets, not service animals, but they were sitting in the cart. Love dogs, but yuck...

TOTV commentors in general: I only listen to Doctors
CDC: Your dog or cat can catch Covid freaking 19
Commenters: It's a different virus
CDC: No, we said Covid freaking 19
Commenters: My Fluffy is invulnerable, I am not listening to Doctors

Quite easy for those that will do it. Keep your dog on a 6 foot non-extendable leash. Keep yourself and your dog at least 6 feet away from people and other dogs. The human is ( or should be ) incharge of any interactions and is responsible for their dog and its behavior. People unable to control their pet, for its own safety and the safety of others, probably should not have them. ( That last line is simply mho. Before I am labeled a dog hater , I have had 8 dogs in my life and loved and cared for them and kept them under control. I believe any responsible owner can do the same. )

According to the Bronx Zoo, the test used on animals is different than human ones:
The coronavirus test administered to the Bronx Zoo (https://nypost.com/2020/04/05/bronx-zoo-says-tiger-didnt-get-a-human-coronavirus-test/) tiger that tested positive for the illness is different from ones given to humans, according to the zoo’s chief veterinarian.
“The COVID-19 testing that was performed on our Malayan tiger Nadia was performed in a veterinary school laboratory and is not the same test as is used for people,” Dr. Paul Calle said in a statement tweeted Sunday night.
“You cannot send human samples to the veterinary laboratory, and you cannot send animal tests to the human laboratories, so there is no competition for testing between these very different situations.”
