Any suggestions on how to get rid of raccoons that keep getting into our trash and all the neighbors trash. Started about a month ago. Who does one call here in The Villages.
Please advise.
Thank you

Put you’re trash out in the mornings the day of pickup. Raccoons prowl at night. I don’t know what else you can do. Once they find food the come back.

Spray your bags with pure ammonia, enough to make little puddles on the bags. Anything with lungs will stay away. But as stated above put it out in the morning and they will be gone.

Our trash is sometimes torn open and strewn about by ENORMOUS large black birds.

Yes, that could be problem if you’re trash not picked up early in mornings? They know it’s Golden Corral day!

That would be common crow or ravens. Probably smartest bird in the wild. They recognize you if you’re damage to them.

Some of our neighbors put their trash out the night before, I put ours out in the morning. The wife went out one morning about 4:30 to get the newspaper and an Opossum was dragging a neighbor's garbage bag down the street that they had put out the night before.

I had a similar problem living in Savannah. Luckily, my roof created a nice overhang where the trash cans were stored to keep everything dry. A local trapper suggested a radio tuned to a talk station set on low volume would keep critters away. And he was right. No raccoons again.

Golden Malrin mixed with Coke or Pepsi. Put out at night. Used it on the farm for years. Buy at a farm supply store or Amazon.

Note to Google warriors, yes it is a posion so effective, in fact, that some states have discouraged or outlawed it (think regulated traditionally democratic states). It is fly bait and it smells like something that flies would like. The sweetness of cola attracts the racoons. They will be dead within sight of the bait.

Don't even think of using that fly bait, you'll kill dogs, cats, anything that has a sweet tooth. That stuff is nasty.

Q. Can Golden Malrin Fly Bait be used for raccoon control?

A. No. Golden Malrin cannot be used for raccoon control. This would be considered an off label usage and is illegal. Plus you would run the risk of poisoning a non-target animal by using it in this manner.

We have had great success by putting all our meat and bone scraps in old coffee cans taped close with duct tape.

As long as the racoons have masks, you are safe.

Oh wait...they always have a mask

We had ribs last night, but I have to take exception to your suggestion. Tried to stuff the leftover bones into the used K-cups. No way would they ever fit.

We lived up north and had our times in getting rid of raccoon's. The big danger is they can be rabid. If they act strange in wandering around and acting like they had a few they may be sick and call the sheriff. If they are like the police in the north they will come and shoot the one that is sick. :ho:

I used to have that problem until I switched from white garbage bags to black. I don't know why it works, but it does.

The raccoons were here before us....you could trap them, but then you have to relocate them (and who knows if they come back)

I don't put the trash out until the morning... Raccoons are nocturnal...
