Might be interesting to see comments from the startup. Walked by an out door eatery this AM and saw a ketchup bottle that looked to be 2/3 full. Not likely used only today. The first customers can clear out the month old condiments and supplies. Realize that these items may not require refrigeration but hopefully they start with a clean slate after a month.
Also, note that many people want to avoid money due to potential contamination. What about the little things, such as salt shakers, condiment bottles etc. on tables? Are these sanitized prior to next use.
I realize that at some time we must face reality, but my feeling is that when I see people riding bikes, and golf carts and even their own cars with face masks on, it will be a hard sell to get them into restaurants.

I'm sticking with takeout or delivery. I don't want to stand in line 4 times as long because they are only at 25% capacity. And for that fine dining indoors you'll get plastic utensils, disposable placemats, foam plates and a 22 year od server who will need to take her mask off because you can't hear her thru the muffled mask

Ok I will start went to Chop House for lunch, there are no condiments on table, including salt and pepper. Waitstaff wore gloves, and masks. Very happy to be there. Menus are paper, which was torn in half as he walked away. Drinks came quickly. Lunch was cooked properly, boxed up my own food.
No folder for check, just paper.
Tables inside where I was spaced more than 6 feet apart.
Only one other table with a couple at other end of room. Outside had 3 tables with couple at each. Tables more than 6 feet.
Beats the crap out of going to the grocery for safety

No one waiting while there or when I left. You have many that won’t come out of their house for months. As some have said you WILL get Covid if you go out, and give to everyone.
Then there are those if guidelines are in place, they will try to help boost the economy, because let’s face it 90% of TV doesn’t depend on a job to put food on their table.
So many have no healthcare, no job, no way to feed their children. Even Hospitals have laid off mass amounts of employees, leaving them with health insurance cost in the thousands per month.
Do I think I will die if I go out, NO, there are many issues that will kill me, but I am not in fear of playing golf, swimming, walking, running, or biking, or dining out. Everyone has to decide on what’s best for them. But no one should decide what others should do, or chastising them for it.
As I have said there are those who are disappointed our numbers were not higher, and if they do not climb after we start this new endeavor of phase one, will be even a greater disappointment that people didn’t add to the death toll.

You have said it before and it still comes off as extremely cynical and divisive. You actually believe some people would prefer that thousands die just to prove themselves right? Wow.
It seems to me that some individuals -- and countries -- operate under the Vulcan theory that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. They feel that a higher (but still relatively low, mind you) death rate is a tragic but necessary consequence in order to forestall an even more catastrophic economic collapse.
The other side believes that saving as many lives as possible should be the highest priority.
So here we sit. The smooth vs chunky peanut butter factions aren't going to change each other's minds, either.

My wife and I along with my sister and brother in law and their friend went to the Chop House. We chose outdoor seating. We went there at about 4:30 and were seated immediately, All employees were wearing masks and gloves. I must say, that I felt sorry for them since it was very warm outside. The tables were all spaced appropriately for the current conditions. The food was excellent as usual. Inside there were also customers and they too were spaced appropriately. The entire experience was great and I look forward to returning again soon.

We are open at Too jays in Sumter. We had no wait yesterday. We have a designated cleaning captain. We are using new condiments but packets for salt and pepper and condiments in disposable containers. We are also masked for your protection. We have indoor and out door seating and take out seating outside. We are open 11-7

Three things we still need to do:
1. Wash hands frequently, maybe even ridiculously
2. Continue social distancing
3. Wear masks when indoors - I do not wear them when I am outside. But indoors is a must.
The health experts are worried about a huge spike in cases, because some states are relaxing their regulations. So everyone should be doing these three things. I am not ready to eat indoors, I don't know about outdoors either. Will continue to get takeout or curbside, which might have some risks, sure. But I will follow those three principles at all times.
Who tried it today? Where did you go? How long was the wait? How was the overall experience?
Went to Panera Bread in SS. No wait. Food was good. Indoor and outdoor seating with distance. Drove around and saw that Outback, Carrabus, Longhorn, Bonefish and many other small restaurants were open for indoor seating. Not sure about Olive Garden. Cracker Barrel is open only for take out at this time.

If I knew I was going to have an MI tomorrow, what would I do today. Since I have no idea, what tomorrow brings, I am ok with my decision.
I may not see my family for months because they are working in Covid units. Would they love to walk in a restaurant here be normal, yes. But that’s not what their life allows them to do, today

So no one should chastise you for going out, but it’s ok to chastise those who chose not to, and think it’s ok to believe they are disappointed that more people have not lost their lives 😳.

We went to Perkins it was great. The staff were so happy to see people come in and eat, they would have given us a hug if they could. We felt safe all the staff wore masks, our server put a new pair of gloves on before she took our order. There wasnt anyone close to us eating with the 25 percent capacity. Our waitress has been off work since this virus started, and she hasn't received her unemployment or government check yet.
The staff kept thanking us while we were leaving it was great.

Any waiting in line doesn’t work too well our ADHD !

This is day 2 of restaurants being open. I went to Darrel's in Spanish Springs this morning. IT WAS GREAT!!!! Been almost two months. Everything was clean (always was) and we ate outside. Waitress wore a mask (it wouldn't have bothered me if she didn't). There are a few extra tables outside, and it wasn't crowded.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

We went to La Palma around 3pm. No wait. Mostly waitstaff inside, wearing masks when near patrons. One other couple came in and was seated in our general area, several tables away. There were condiments on the table, but I used a napkin to hold the salsa bottle and used sanitizer after. We had no issues.

They were sitting next to each other about a foot apart and the article said one was visiting the other from out of state.

I went to Bob Evans at Colony. I arrived at about 12:15. I was the only one there. Staff was very welcoming and accomodating but had to wear masks and gloves. Food was good but I did not enjoy the experience only because of the over-the-top sterile vibe. I do understand that they are just following protocal.

Tampa is in phase one also, however it does not say when visitor arrived in TV. Sun could have put anyone in the picture, they chose a very elderly twosome, one a visitor. Maybe to suggest it’s ok to eat out, without making a statement

Carrabba's at 3 pm. Almost no one there to begin with. Within half an hour, people began to stream in. Very sterile environment. Staff with masks, gloves, disposable menus, etc. Great to be dining out again!
Tried breakfast at Lighthouse today. They just began this service this week. Meal was very good and service was very prompt...however, no masks worn by servers or hostesses and salt and pepper out on the tables. So, if you're worried about catching something, I'd say to stay away! Otherwise, what a wonderful setting for a relaxing breakfast!!

Went to Five Guys in Brownwood at lunch time. They only had about 16 chairs out and the rest were stacked up in a corner and not to be used. Shortly after noon all the chairs were in use and there were no more available. An older couple removed some of the stacked chairs and started setting them at a table. An employee who looked like he may have been the manager kindly told them the restaurant is limited to 25% capacity and the chairs that were stacked in the corner could not be used. The couple was very rude and started arguing. It's too bad that some people think the rules don't apply to them.

I seriously doubt yours is a rhetorical question so:
Most would probably answer NO. I suppose one could also ask, "if you knew your server was a psychopath and was going to "do you in", would you eat there"? Other than the obvious answer, what is the purpose - fear-mongering, I would presume. STAY INDOORS … no worries :icon_wink:

Bamboo Bistro for lunch today (Cinco de Mayo???). Haven't been there for 2+months. Made a resrv over the phone yesterday for noon. There at 12 - no line, 2 tables of 2 seated. We were the only ones with a reserv on the list. Seated in a nice booth.
Hostess and Servers all wore masks and gloves. Did not ask for a menu as we get the same every time... Server was very careful handling glasses, etc. Food was excellent - tofu with vegetables and rice with orange sauce and veggie rolls. I had hot&sour soup too. As usual we could only eat 1/2 and boxed the rest for lunch another day at home. All yummy and hot off the wok. When we left there were 3 other tables taken, with 2 at each. Was nice to get out, and felt very safe etc. A+

Went to Gator's Dockside at Brownwood at 1:00 today. A couple with some young children went in just before us. The hostess asked if we wanted inside or out, it was very hot although two couples were sitting outside. We went inside because the TV's are one reasons for going there, the other was I hadn't had any wings in about a year and they have good wings. Oddly, without live sports to watch and no audio on the TV's, the sports channels are kind of boring.
We sat in front area and only the family were the only other diners for about 30 minutes, then a couple youger guys came in and an older couple. Our waitress, who waited on us a few times before, her and none of the employees had masks on. They gave us paper menus, but I basically asked if they had the wings lunch special and she said yes. Ten wings or six, we had six wings, fries and blue cheese for $7.99, and two diet Cokes. It was $22.50 and I gave her a $7.50 tip. I ordered a side of celery but as it turned out, their truck didn't come in, so no celery. We got regular boned wings with sweet BBQ sauce. They were excellent.
Overall, they had a barmaid, two waitresses, a hostess and a manger, more people than customers most of the time. The table was clear when we sat down, so they brought us a new ketchup, salt & pepper and a new roll of paper towels on a stand. We had regular silverware wrapped in a napkin.

I guess it all comes down to . Who do you believe, The doctors or the Whitehouse. Personally, all of the doctors that I have talked to and the nurses agree that nothing has changed and I should use extreme caution when outside. They also said it is important to get some exercise. Going into a place to eat would be nice but that still does not fit "use extreme caution". So you know where I stand. Play golf yes, eat in a restaurant no. Take out is on the boarder line. So I will do that to support our stores taking a smaller risk.

With so few tests actually done, it's impossible to know how many people are infected. If a state decides not to count deaths in nursing homes or people that don't actually live full time in Florida, the numbers will be skewed. If someone dies in your state, then it is a death in your state. I just wish our politicians would be honest with us. We can handle the truth.
QUOTE=thelegges;1758934]No one waiting while there or when I left.
As I have said there are those who are disappointed our numbers were not higher, and if they do not climb after we start this new endeavor of phase one, will be even a greater disappointment that people didn’t add to the death toll.[/QUOTE]

So no one should chastise you for going out, but it’s ok to chastise those who chose not to, and think it’s ok to believe they are disappointed that more people have not lost their lives 😳.
You said “ As I have said there are those who are disappointed our numbers were not higher, and if they do not climb after we start this new endeavor of phase one, will be even a greater disappointment that people didn’t add to the death toll.”
I can’t imagine any rationale person believing this.

We ate at Havana last night with a 7:15 reservations. Ate outside and observed that all recommended guidelines were being met. Service and food was excellent. Glad to leave a 40% tip.
Very nice to hear that 40% tip. I hope people that can afford it do the same so the servers can make some money to support their families.

And maybe it’s just me, but the the whole dining out ambience is ruined by servers wearing gloves, masks, and paper menus which get disposed of. I’ll hold off and continue making dinner at home.
Totally agree with you, takeout for us but only places we can get in and out quickly like pizza or chinese

Went to legacy last night .. Made reservations for 530. Shared one of the side rooms with 2 or 3 couples .. all far away. After 2 months, it seemed like a special night out instead of a normal occurrence. Appetizer, main course, dessert and drinks ..We'll have to put up with the Lone Ranger masks for a while, but this too will pass. Seems like the staff was happy to see some patrons .. Food was great, as usual. No issues .. we'll be back

Most restaurants are temperature checking all staff upon arrival
But, people don’t get a fever until they’ve been exposing people for a week or two. Checking temperatures doesn’t motivate me to go out one bit.

Will continue to wait, for us the dining experience is not just the food, its ambiance , the chance to chat with other people, eat on a table with cloth napkins & a nice table setting
Till things improve , will still be eating @ home-

Went to Gator's Dockside. Dined in. Most tables were closed with cleaning buckets on the seat to prevent anyone from sitting at them. There was only one other family seated in the dining room, 2 tables away. There were a few people at the bar area, also at a distance (a couple of "couples" were seated right beside their spouses/partners but I figure if they LIVE together it's a non-issue).
Some of the staff wore masks. Others didn't. I asked our server, she said it was optional but recommended. She has a mask, but it's uncomfortable so she chose instead to maintain a distance. Not 6 feet, but I've never felt anyone should feel the need to get out the yardstick. It was closer to 4 feet, and that was comfortable enough for us.
Paper menus, which bugs me just on principal. I really REALLY wish they'd just use insertable binder sheets and wiped off the outer surface with sanitizer between customers, instead of throwing away all that paper after the first use.
Service was excellent, server was awesome, food was terrific as usual, and she gave us a scoop of ice cream with chocolate sauce to wish us a happy anniversary. We were her first customer since she returned to work so we helped HER celebrate with a 48% tip.

Some people do not ever develop a fever. Those are the people who are asymptomatic carriers of the virus.

Dining in a restaurant is at the bottom of our list for some considerable time to come. We eat to live not live to eat, so not too difficult for us. But, will do take out when I absolutely cannot stand to cook another meal :icon_wink:
However, if they shut down traffic at Lake Sumter and put out tables along the sidewalk, we would be tempted to eat out again. I could shut my eyes and imagine I was on the Via Veneto in Rome again!

At Havana today. All tables 6’ in and out. Some wore mask in, removed at table. No condiments on table, brought out in small dish when asked. Little busier than restaurant yesterday. Staff very glad you were there, wearing mask, and gloves.
This is my fourth restaurant since Monday, more thanI eat out in 3 months. While I am only one, I hope I can make a difference to the staff and their families.

Eh. The whole "eat to live vs. live to eat" thing is overblown. You CAN eat to live, AND enjoy the food. The only people who must ONLY eat to live, are people who have their nutrition fed to them through a tube.
You also didn't have to cook another meal. You could've ordered food delivery - many of these places are delivering free of charge. You also could've done curb-side pickup, and contactless pickup. We had pizza from Pizza Hut tonigh and they brought it out to our car, we drove it home and ate it still hot from the oven. Not fine dining, no. But it's one less night of cooking.

cooking is not a hassle, its fun if you & your significant other share the experience--its going to be a really long time before we set foot in any restaurant
And, why the rush to go out to get mostly microwaved & deep fried , prepackaged food, that is the norm in TV's restaurants
Do you really think places like Gator's actually cook?

Wife & I went to Havana last night. Tables spaced as should be, inside bar had seating for singles and doubles spaced 6 ft apart no moving of seats period. Nothing on the bar. Drinks served in throwaway cups. New cup for every drink. Staff wore masks and gloves. Very happy to see people and thanked us for coming.

Who tried it today? Where did you go? How long was the wait? How was the overall experience?
Monday evening I went to Giovanni's, my fiancé and I were the only ones in the restaurant. A few people came in to pick up orders. They are doing everything they can to follow and comply with the CDC.
Last evening we went to Naldos, busier outside than inside. There were three booths separating us from other diners. They are also following the guidelines. Our favorite server, Tammy, who used to work at Giovanni's was serving us. She and other servers everywhere still haven't gotten their first unemployment check or stimulus check.
When you feel it is safe enough for you to dine out again, please remember to tip at least 20%, providing you had a good experience. They have families too and bills to pay and have had no income. Retirees still got their Social Security despite the quarantine.
Just remember, because things are starting to open up slowly, please be sure you maintain your distance and FOLLOW THE ARROWS and STAND BEHIND THE LINES TAPED ON THE FLOORS. I can't believe how many people are clueless.

Going to a Restaurant?
Something to consider.
Doctors are limiting their practices to see patients. What are they telling us?
Perhaps it is nice to go out to eat as we had done this past Wednesday.
Not all of the wait staff wore masks and or gloves. Not too healthy for patrons or themselves.
Were surprised the Manager did not pull these people aside to reaffirm the requirements.
We will wait again for another few weeks to see what happens in new cases.

I'm sure their boneless wings come in frozen, and they deep-fry them and splash some buffalo sauce over them. I'm also sure their salad greens come already washed and cut.
But the ability to get out of the house, have someone else do the deep frying, food prep, serving, table-clearing, and dishwashing is attractive and something we like to experience sometimes. It was our wedding anniversary and I'll be damned if either of us has to cook and clean on our wedding anniversary.

Two experiences to share from this past week, one in TV and one outside. Very different experiences. Ate at Red Sauce on the patio one evening. Good social distancing, staff was masked and wore gloves, bottle of sanitizer on every table, service excellent. Ate at Oakwood BBQ. Not a single worker wore a mask or gloves. Good job adhering to the 25% capacity guideline. We took extra precautions due to others not. We would have left but it was late and several other restaurants had already closed. I will admit we were a bit uneasy but we were no closer than 15 feet to anyone else and avoided contact with waiter.

I've had take out from Blue Fin (nothing deep fried), burgers from Lopez pool bar (yes, fries are deep fried... but Lopez pool bar burgers are excellent), pizza from Piesano's, and I've done take out from Pho Saigon a few times (not sure they even own a deep fryer). I've had take out from some of my favorite places. I want to support the local restaurants.

They feel that a higher (but still relatively low, mind you) death rate is a tragic but necessary consequence in order to forestall an even more catastrophic economic collapse.
Michael Burry MD who was the subject of the movie "THE BIG SHORT" had an opinion on that very subject. He said.........
“Universal stay-at-home is the most devastating economic force in modern history,” Burry wrote in an email to Bloomberg News. “And it is man-made. It very suddenly reverses the gains of underprivileged groups, kills and creates drug addicts, beats and terrorizes women and children in violent now-jobless households, and more. It bleeds deep anguish and suicide.”
“I would lift stay-at-home orders except for known risk groups. We already know certain conditions that are predictive of severe disease. Especially since young healthy lungs tend to be resistant, I would let the virus circulate in the population that is not likely to get severe disease from it. This is the only path that comes close to balancing the needs of all groups. Vaccines are not coming anytime soon, so natural immunity is the only way out for now. Every day, every week in the current situation is ruining innumerable lives in a criminally unjust manner.”
"If COVID-19 testing were universal, the fatality rate would be less than 0.2%. This is no justification for sweeping government policies, lacking any and all nuance, that destroy the lives, jobs, and businesses of the other 99.8%."

This week was Legends, Chop House and Havana.. Made early reservations for all three .. No waiting .. There certainly werent any lines of people aching to get in .. Everyone was in good spirits and obviously thankful for the patronage. Food and service were very good at all three. Anxious for the masks to come off, but all in good time ..

Gloves carry germs just like our bare hands carry germs. Unless servers are constantly changing gloves in between serving customers, there is no advantage to wearing gloves. After removing gloves, the person should always wash their hands because there is a very high possibility, the person has no idea how to safely remove gloves without contaminating their hands. So.....why wear gloves when you must wash your hands every time the gloves are removed? No reason at all.

Actually, wearing gloves can be more detrimental because people take them off thinking their hands are clean but inadvertently contaminate their hands. Then, they do not wash their hands because they think their hands are clean when they are not.

Back on topic...we went to Sams St John in Summerfield at 5pm yesterday - were the 3rd couple there. Approx half of the usual tables had been removed and the existing were ell spaced apart. Guests were sitting in every other booth to maintain distance, serving staff all masked and menus wiped before/after provided to guests. Condiments served in single-serve containers; salt and pepper served in paper packets. Saw table and chairs being wiped down as we went to pay the bill on the way out. Food was as expected - no change from previously. It's not gourmet but it is adequate and servings are good for the price...served really hot, too! The lack of a full dining room enabled the air conditioning to be at an acceptable level, too! Did not need my usual sweater! lol

I find that social distancing is not consistent and I'm trying to understand the CDC guidelines. Restaurants must keep tables separated by 6 feet yet parties of 8 or 10 are allowed to sit without masks, shoulder to shoulder and directly across from each other at the table. Those same people who were sitting without masks shoulder to shoulder in a restaurant must social distance in a grocery store and stay 6 feet apart, masks requested or in Costco, required.
Where is the consistency in these guidelines? I can understand why people are confused as to what is expected of them. The CDC has mandated no gatherings larger than 10 people but aren't those 10 people still supposed to distance themselves by 6 feet unless they live in the same household?
Why are the guidelines different for restaurants vs retail, grocery stores and pharmacies?

Lake sumpter the other night... one of the restaurants on a side street had people seated outside. The tables may have been 6 feet apart, but once the chairs were around it and people were sitting at different distances from the table, they appeared to be very close to one another. It was packed. I’ll save my dining out for somewhere where the food is excellent... not many around here that are good enough for me to take the risks.

Here is an email I received from the Rose Plantation.
"As most of you are aware, the Governor has expanded the opening of restaurants to 50% of capacity. We are working on opening as soon as we are able, after we complete some remodeling items and increased safety protocals. Based on our various contractor projections, we think we can reopen in around 7 - 8 weeks. We will keep you informed and start taking reservations a week out from our actual reopening date.
Several items we are waiting for are portable hand washing sinks so everyone can wash their hands before entering the restaurant, as hand washing seems to be the best health care practice against COVID-19. In addition, we have ordered hospital type air purifiers for our HVAC equipment to filter air flow.
We appreciate your support through all of this and we look forward to seeing you soon.
Thank you,
The Rose Plantation"
Apparently, there is a huge difference of opinion among restaurants as to what precautions they need to take to make their businesses safe.

For me it's a situational risk tolerance question. Do I believe ten people at the table have been taking personal responsibility and appropriate precautions thus reducing the risk. Especially since the infection rate around us is currently very low. If there is a localized spike, I'll not take this risk.
In a situation where the people are unknowns, such as groceries or the next table, the risk is higher.
People need to do what is comfortable for their situation.
