View Full Version : Entertainment at Squares - Any Guesses When?

There seems to be chatter about almost everything regarding when it will return to something resembling normal...rec centers, sports facilities, restaurants, bowling alleys, stores, you name it...except entertainment at the squares.

I don’t think I’ve seen one thread, news article, idle speculation, anything regarding when entertainment might return to the squares, or how the entertainment and the audience might differ compared to pre-Covid 19.

Thoughts?

It’s a very good question. My best guess is it will be one of the last things to reopen. Too many people congratulating in one place and no way to ensure anything resembling social distancing. I hope it happens sooner rather than later because that would indicate the pandemic is finally under control, but who really knows? Until then, I am glad to have a preference for golfing rather than line dancing: )

You decide which phase the Town Squares fall into. I think it's Phase three:

Phase one is the stage that Florida is currently in. Limited public hospitality progress.
Stay-at-home and social distancing are still being advocated.

Phase two will go into effect when DeSantis lifts the stay-at-home order. The task force will then promote in-state travel and vacations, with hotels and restaurants being the target industries.

Phase three will call on domestic and international travelers to flock to Florida. Beaches and other tourism spots should have little restrictions.

Phase four is the final stage in the task force’s plan to re-open the state and something akin to what the state looked like two months ago, will “keep Florida the top travel destination” for tourists.

We are trying to get back to some semblance of life again. Last thing we need is crowding people into the entertainment areas. Hopefully, that wont occur for awhile unless we want to start picking up the bodies.

Really! Picking up the bodies? We have not seen that yet in TV's and people have been doing pretty much whatever they can get away with without dropping dead, or even really creating a spike in the virus numbers. Unless you own a funeral home, why would you state something so exaggerated and ridiculous? Don't be part of the problem by over hyping.

I recently talked with the folks at the Entertainment Dept, who are the folks booking the acts at the Squares. They are cancelling all concerts (Savannah Center, Sharon, Studio Theater) at least thru August. Though it wasn't mentioned specifically when we talked, I would expect this would apply to the Squares as well.

we've really enjoyed the concerts and live theatre in TV... we constantly were at The Sharon, The Savannah Center (as well as at venues outside TV)... today's Daily Sun has a whole list of what's coming and when....we'd go to the Squares to see a few bands, or to introduce visitors to the nightlife

nice...but we're not interested in being shoulder to shoulder with hundreds of folks until a vaccine has been developed and we've had a shot

when we can understand the situation and start taking precautions and wear a mask and gloves
probably we can all resume to our normal life - in the meantime the problem is the human kind
people needs to respect their life and the others following the protocol

and them will be many days to enjoy in the near future if we all can cooperate .

Yesterday, I spoke with a musician who told me that his band is currently booked to play Market Square, Lake Sumter Landing on May 31.

Of course that could change.According to last weeks Happy News May entertainment insert bands were "scheduled" to start playing on May 1st and have been going every day since. My sarcastic guess that will REALLY happen shortly after we all get the vaccination that some clueless politicians says could be in September. My real guess is around when Governor D says Disney entertainment parks (not just shopping areas) open fully and allows 50,000 people to run all over each other to get in line at Avatar or It's A Small World.

Unless they can figure a way to "crowd control" the square to 50 people it's sadly gonna be a looooong time.

Yea, that's the ticket. That's almost as good as filling up a football stadium with 50,000 people. Pack 3-400 people into the square then send them running all over the place when they are done ... WAIT! Better idea. Keep 'em caged up in the square (provide food, booze, toilets and Rocky and the Elders for 2 weeks) and see how many are shivering, shaking, coughing at the end. I believe they now have portable respirators so it can be a 1 stop end of life shop and we can thank those who gave their lives for the good of all mankind and didn't infect the rest of us as they are carted out by the coroner for volunteering to be "the herd." Those who make it out after the 2 weeks are likely safe and can sell their blood for a $15 City Fire gift card if their blood alcohol content isn't too high. :1rotfl:

your choice to be a risk taker...or to continue to play it safe

latest info seems to be that being inside with other folks for 25+ minutes is a risk

everything that I'm seeing points to this lasting a lot longer than any of us would like

I think what each person has to consider is to seriously think, yes seriously think before which decision you will make. Will it be sensible, for you?

A huge decision to make, ( consider ) is really the only way to consider the way for you to think.

I think the outcome whatever decision you make will be fine only if you take your time with the decision you ultimately take. :ohdear:

The Villages is currently working with lake Sumter Sheriff's Department on the design of badges to be given out to people to report social distancing violations. people with badges do not have to give proof of frequenting town squares, City Fire or any establishment that promotes fun over fear. Just a desire to take pictures, report their neighbors and shake their heads in disgust. Once the badges are ready, they will be handed out on a first come first served basis. Names of those possessing the new badges will be listed in the Daily Sun, praising their bravery. Once that is accomplished, the entertainment will resume.

I received my refund shortly after I called and asked for it.

Understand now???

Winston, you have my undying respect for founding the TV Beatles group, but I'd just like to point out that there's a lot of worrying going on about "touching" that may well be unwarranted. The experts say the main route of transmission is from virus particles expelled from a cough or sneeze, or possibly from talking, and direct contact with the mouth, nose and eyes.

Excerpt: "It may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. This is not thought to be the main way the virus spreads, but we are still learning more about this virus." There has been no mention in any of these posts that Covid transmission is much less likely outdoors than it is indoors.

A large % of deaths have occurred in Nursing Homes and in Assisted Living Facilities.

Now the % of individuals who actually get the virus survive around 90%.

Each year, Cancer, Heart Disease, Automobile Fatalities, Flu, far exceed Covid 19 deaths.

IMO, Americans need to be alert, smart, when inside or outside, that said America needs to return to normalcy...… Now. :)

Each year, Cancer, Heart Disease, Automobile Fatalities, Flu, far exceed Covid 19 deaths.

Why does so many folks use the totally incorrect flu deaths comparison? (Polly want a cracker?) The highest PREDICTED death rate for the flu for the 6 month 2019-2020 flu season (season isn't over yet) is ESTIMATED by the CDC to be BETWEEN 24,000 and 66,000 over SIX months. Covid has killed over 80,000 in 3 months so far and could easily exceed 120,000 in an equal 6 months. 2019-2020 U.S. Flu Season: Preliminary Burden Estimates | CDC (https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/burden/preliminary-in-season-estimates.htm)

During the 2018-19 flu season, about 35 million people in the US contracted the flu and about 34,000 died, according to the CDC.

So that claim is totally incorrect plus COVID is 2X as contagious.

US coronavirus death rates compared to the seasonal flu, by age group - Business Insider (https://www.businessinsider.com/coronavirus-compared-seasonal-flu-in-the-us-death-rates-2020-3)

The flu and the new coronavirus (https://www.businessinsider.com/wuhan-coronavirus-us-cases-health-risk-2020-1) have similar symptoms, but the latter is far deadlier.
Here's how the two diseases' death rates compare among various age groups in the US.
The coronavirus is five to 10 times more deadly than the flu for those between the ages of 0 and 45. It is 12 1/2 times more deadly than the flu for those over 85.

Oh, and someone who has Cancer or Heart disease can't inadvertently give it to their friends or family. Poor analogy.
