We are planning on having one mid size SUV and two golf carts when we move to TV. I know it’s nice to have an extra golf cart garage but trying to watch the budget. We are looking to keep the price down by keeping the wants down and concentrate on the needs. So it looks like a standard garage there is about 20x 19. Thanks for your input on this.

You may be able to squeeze them in, but you really should get a 2 car garage and a golf cart garage. It will greatly increase the ability to sell the house when you move.

A 2 car garage will fit 1 car/van/suv and 2 golf carts. I suppose you can cram a 3rd golf cart in but that's if there are no shelves, lawn equipment, etc. And even then, they'd have to be parked sideways and it would not be convenient at all getting in and out.

I don't know anyone who regretted having a larger garage in FL. The additional cost is probably better than money in the bank at resale (IMHO).

Amen !!! I never seem to have enough room in my 2 car garage.

A golf cart itself takes up approximately 8 X 4 of space plus give a foot of space in front and back of a line of carts to walk around or past them. A small SUV or van is usually 16 to 17 long. The "standard" Villages garage is either about 18 or 20 feet deep (Which in my opinion is too short in the first place). Thus you won't get 3 carts in tandem unless maybe you park them sideways to the entrance, and then you would probably have to move your SUV out to maneuver the carts in and out. Then throw in space to store a few things such as golf bags, shoes, some garden equipment, etc.. So the answer is that 3 carts and a SUV or van in a standard Villages garage is not very practicable. And, if you have a home with the laundry equipment in the garage, forget it.

If you want 3 golf carts you need to get a golf cart garage or plan on leaving car outside

The OP made a typo either in the post title or it's contents. 2 or 3 golf carts?

2 carts no problem, 3 carts a problem

We have an oversized garage that holds Hyundai Tucson, Chevy Sonic and 1 two seater cart with lots of room left over. That said, like a lot of other folks we seem to over flow. With creative storage solutions you (we) could easily get more in the garage than you might think.

Keep in mind there is not much storage space in the homes down here and garage space is needed, go for the extra space if you can swing it.

Remember the garage is your basement for storage. You can do storage with racks hung from the ceiling or on the wall.
Remember the space you have to open and close the car door. If you use the wall for storage be sure you do not use the space next to the door.
I would draw out the dimensions of the garage on a piece of paper and then make to scale rectangles to represent the car and golf carts. I think it can work but if you have to move any vehicle to get to another one it could be a pain in the future.
When you visit do some measuring. An easy way might be to get some rope and make rectangles for the size of the vehicles and then place these on the floor of a sample home. Then "open" the car door. The carts will probably be side by side if they can. Remember you could stager then so they only over lap 1/2 way. Easier to get in. My gut feel is that the size of the garage is very important in how you like the home over the years. Might ask how important the garage size is.
I have 2 cars and a cart behind one car. We hardly use one car and moving the cart out of the way is not a big deal (maybe two times a week at most) but my garage is also wider and longer. If you can park the carts staggered side by side I can see doing it with out any major problems. As the saying goes, measure twice and buy once.

No problem. We have a Honda SUV, two golf carts, two bicycles and some shelving down one side of our two car garage.

When we were looking at homes last August, we looked at many with a 2 car garage between 466 and 466A. Had no idea about stretched garages, but did wonder the same - would 1 car and 2 golf carts easily fit.

We stopped by Villages Golf Cars in Brownwood, and got the simple answer: "only if you are clever".

This narrowed down our search.

We had looked at several homes with only a 2 car garage that had a car and 2 golf carts inside, but not much else at all. We didn't want to rely on our cleverness. We needed the storage, and planned to have bikes, too - a tandem and two road bikes.

We ended up with a 2 car plus golf cart garage in a new stretched Designer Iris. Happy we did. We have shelves along the side and back walls, as well as shelves down the middle between the 2-car and golf cart side. Glad we did it.

Learned too late that the golf cart side could also be wider.

We are south of 44 in Marsh Bend. Many stretched homes with 3-car and 4-car garages down here, too.

If it’s about budget, then you can get by with the single setup, I’ve survived for 12 years with the single, like you, it was about budget, live within your means. If you have to give up the other pleasure of retirement for garage space don’t.

I have a regular size garage in a designer home. We have a Chevy Tahoe, 2 motorcycles and a golf cart in the garage with no problems. We use our attic, have ceiling hung storage and a gorilla rack for tools and equipment. If you use some creativity you really won't have any problems with a 2 car garage. Don't buy a 1 1/2 car garage, they are too small. Some homes have extended garages too. Happy house hunting. You'll love living here.

We had a 2 car garage on our designer and kept 2 cars, a golf cart and a scooter in it. Along with shelving and trash, recycling and other assorted stuff. No problem really. A little tight..but we did most of our dancing inside anyway.:1rotfl:

No. Not with a regular garage. If you had the extra stretched garage, you might be able accomodate 1 car and two golf cars end to end.

1st rule of basements is also the 1st rule of garages - if you have space, you will fill it,,, both are like unto the 1st rule of attics modified - it you have 1 & its got a floor + safe access, you will fill that space too ;-)

We have been here almost 6 years and have never had a problem sharing 1 golf cart. Except in this time of covid 19, there are always people willing to share rides, and as a last resort you can rent one to golf. I personally prefer the space in the garage. We HAVE a golf car garage and use it for storage.

I have a 2 car garage. We have a KIA Sorento and a 2 seat and 4 seat golf carts. They all fit but a golf cart garage would have given us so much more storage and move around space. The home we picked had everything else we wanted, so we settled for no golf cart garage. Very doable!

You should be able to get 2 golf carts and 1 small to medium SUV in a standard 2 car garage with no problem, but as they are saying a Golf Cart Garage would increase your selling (and higher price) when you do Sell.

Had my garage extended 4ft when the house was built. I had a Hyundai Santa Fe , a 4 seater and a 2 seater golf cart plus storage cabinets. I can still open my car doors.

We have a small SUV , a reg cart & a 4 seater. We keep all of them in our 2 car garage. No problem, but we DO have to play the “golf cart shuffle” depending on who leaves first.

Are you talking gas or electric carts? Having enough electric might be an issue as well but all great comments. We had a 2 car garage, 2 electric carts and 2 cars ... one car and both carts fit just fine but three would not. I wish we had thought before buying as a carty garage REALLY adds value to your resale, if and when that occurs, just a thought. Good luck to ya and God Bless!

We can fit our Equinox and two golf carts, two bicycles in our garage and use our golf cart side for tools, work bench and storage. I believe our garage might be a bit wider than some. There are some garages that are expanded in depth and others expanded in width. You will never be sorry you chose a home with the extra space.

I have a "stretch garage". I always said that is a stretch to call that a garage.

You can never have a large enough garage!

In your post you only want 2 golf carts but in the heading it mention 3..... what exactly are your needs - 2 or 3 ?

IMHO, in a house, the kitchen is the most important room followed by the garage. Everything else is of a lesser priority. Garages in The Villages are truly substandard. What is called a two car garage barely fits two cars.
Get the biggest garage you can afford, or find a house with a lot size where you can add on to your liking.
I tell my wife that if I outlive her, I'm selling the house and buying a one bedroom house with a five car garage.

I have a patio villa that I might sell to move up to a larger house. My 2/2 has a1.5 garage and a separate golf cart garage. I am sure you could fit a SUV and 2 carrts in it. And a cart in the golf cart garage.

We have a two car garage with one car and two golf carts in it. No problem plenty of room. The golf carts are part end-to-end. Sometimes one will have to be moved to get the other out. Not a big deal.

Get rid of your stuff then you won’t need to use your garage for storing stuff! You’ll be able to use the garage for your vehicles when you get rid of your stuff.

I think you meant to say one car and two golf carts not 3 golf carts. If you install attic stairs above garage and put ceiling racks in garage this will help give you more space but if you have any tools and landscape maintenance equipment ladders bikes holiday ornaments spare chairs for the squares etc you are not going to have enough room in the garage. You can make it if you keep your car parked in the driveway all the time but I agree with others it's well worth the extra expense to get the house with the two car garage and the golf cart garage if you want everything in the garage at night. There are many homes available for sale with golf cart garages and if you want something new you should consider looking at Deluna south of route 44 as they have many homes about to be listed that are within a few minutes of the golf cart bridge that will cross the interstate and go into Brownwood square. It's a beautiful area with those tall old oak trees covered with Spanish moss in all the biking walking trails. Very pretty area and some excellent prices on new homes down there. They are very busy building lots of commercial down there and within two years you will probably have grocery stores Banks gas stations etc within a few minutes. Prettiest area in The Villages as far as I'm concerned and it will have quick access to Brownwood within a year.yes it is more remote now but think ahead 2 or 3 years if you plan to live here full time it would be a good investment as it is so pretty there. I wish we had those shaded walking trails up here north of 44 as it's too hot to walk and ride bikes with no shade all summer. Another important point is that North of 44 most garages have blocked wall access for two doors that contain air conditioning unit and hot water heater. You can't put any shelves in front of those doors so less wall access for storage shelves etc. South of 44 the homes have tankless hot water heater so only one door for air conditioning unit giving you more wall space for shelves and storage. You will usually get more upgrades if the house has already been lived in by previous owners etc so new homes will cost you more if you have to do or want to do any upgrades such as floors countertops etc. Also need to consider age of home as you may need to replace roofs or air conditioning units if homes are more than 10 years old. you need to make a list of what is a must have in a home and consider proximity to what is important to you. If you want lots of shopping and restaurants readily available you may want to be in the northern sections. If golfing is really important you need to look at golf course maps. If you're more into nature and outdoors you would probably like south of 44. Lots to consider. Good luck
