Wife and I have been renting through winter high season for over 20 years, and never met any hostility, or snyde remarks to our face.
Some complain on TOTV about renters, and some have probably complained behind our back.
If no renters, and all houses were occupied 24/7/365 same people would be bitching about overcrowding.
Shops and restaurants love us! :)

Have friends who just went back to Ohio as the wife didn’t like the hot, humid Florida Summers.
July is very hot and humid. We are indoors most of the day. But you are welcome to come.

It would be easier to put a pan of water in your oven, turn the oven on and crawl in, lol. I wouldn’t waste my time or money personally. The heat is not pleasant in July normally and there’s always a good possibility of hurricanes. From late October to November through April would be my choice. Good luck on your decision.

The viral infection rates are low in Florida and the try-county area today.
Opening up of rentals to will increase the flight from heavily infected areas such as New York, Massachusetts and New Jersey to TV. So, I expect there will be a second wave in the villages based on the lack of masks and social distancing that I have observed in the past few days. If you are from an area with few cases of COVID-19 you might want to stay at home.
The people in the real estate business will say “Come On Down” but I plan to take a vacation from TV to a place like Montana where the COVID-19 rates are low.

Oh I so agree with you. First time I'm here for various reasons after memorial day. I hate heat - I'm one of those that will never acclimate. For those who want to experience this - warm the oven to 350 degrees F and stick your head into it. It's the same feeling as opening the front door after 9 AM.

Craig, I have absolutely no issue with anyone from anywhere coming here to rent, especially in the summer.
But there was a recent thread here about an owner coming down from New York to, as I recall, perform some maintenance on his home, and a couple of posters were ready to get out the pitchforks.
As long as you follow whatever the current recommendations are for face covering and social distancing, I don't think people here will challenge you in public, renter or not, Ohio or not.
Opinions on masks and crowds have become quite divisive and IMO, it's easiest to simply take the path of least resistance. If it's something you feel strongly about taking a stance against, perhaps be prepared for some mild blowback.

Honestly I personally don’t believe in renting. Guess I should have looked into that more. I thought this would be more exclusive that is why we pay HOA fees. If you just let anybody in here what’s the point of us paying for these “privileges” if I didn’t care about renters and vacationers then I would have moved into condos on the beach. Sorry I just thought it would be different. I wouldn’t care to have a neighbor who is constantly renting to whoever and me not really knowing who my neighbors are from time to time. The world is bad enough now I have to maybe worry who is renting by me.

I would assume a renter for a month would appropriate the owner’s passes for the $50 fee and not deal with guest passes. Renters really aren’t guests. That is a valid point though and something for the renter to look into.

New Yorkers have suffered greatly as a result of the CV. It's not their fault that this awful plague has landed on their laps. If they own homes here, why shouldn't they be here as long as they have been cleared medically?

There are no HOA fees in The Villages. You are probably right, you should have done more research and asked more questions, this has never been sold as a an exclusive or gated community. We moved here six years ago and have never been disappointed, but we rented for three years before moving, attended CDD meetings and talked to neighbors. We love the snowbirds, bring a new life for a few months, spend their money then give it back to us full timers.

Welcome! TV has "seasons" just like other parts of the country. The seasons here are a bit different. Summer, for example, is mostly hot, humid with the likelihood of afternoon thunder showers. Hard core "tropical".
If you have been here in the fall or winter will give you a whole different perspective on what us full timers love or hate about summer here. Thank goodness we have so many pools.
So, come on down but be prepared to sweat a bit.

Well it’s a fee of $162 a month, whatever it is called. There is a difference between snowbirds and renting out. I understand “snowbirds” live here maybe 6 months out of the year and go back north, but I didn’t realize so many people rented there homes. And yes I viewed this as being exclusive with the fees we pay and the bonds we pay. I just don’t feel renters or guest should use certain things. The place a lived at before, guest were not allowed to use our workout facility. We didn’t want just anybody coming in there and maybe not using stuff right or younger people abusing it. Just saying. If I didn’t care about this I would have moved into a high rise condo on the beach where ever week you have a different neighbor.

Things are opening up more and people are getting out and about more. As for the weather having moved from NY I'll take the heat. There are those here although not that many who don't like visitors I have no problem because at one point in time we were ALL visitors. Hope to see you soon!

Sorry for the layoff - sounds like you are looking for silver-lining. So come on down! Renting in TV is smart. We started out renting, and think it's a great way to figure out if TV is for you, or to get small tastes of the lifestyle while still working. As for managing the pandemic, do what you think is best for you and please make the best contribution you can to stopping the spread, wherever you are. Re: the month of July ... we are snowbirds ... so it's summers in TN. But we take a short (2-3 weeks) summer vacation at our home in TV. Sure, it's hot. We do our sports and exercise early or late in the day and take a couple showers a day. It's a wonderful "vacation".

The more I read many of these threads it makes me wonder why many of the posters moved here full time . . If you hate the heat so bad that you can’t function outside why live here . I’ve been living in Florida fo 20 years , doing the same walking and biking in afternoon after gym all year round . Unless I have company , my AC stays at 80 and I shut it off when I go to bed and open slider and maybe on very cold days I’ll read n heater for a little but I’ve never ever had it on when I go to bed and I doubt many of you had it on at night when you went to bed when you lived up north acclimate yourselves you’ll enjoy fl more and no I’m not one of those guys showing off in winter with his knees turning blue I wear what I need to stay warm outside and inside

Normally I would say quarantine yourselves for 2 weeks when you get there but I understand you only want to stay 1 month. (4 weeks) I lived there for 8 yrs. but moved. I wanted to see some of my old buddies. But they thought it would be better if I didn’t & I respected there advice, because me coming from another state they just didn’t want take a chance & I thought the same way. Don’t feel bad if someone tells you not to come, normally TV would welcome anyone. You use your own judgement but don’t be surprise if you’re pushed away & wasted a lot of rental money. Good luck & stay safe! PS: I’m originally from Lima, Ohio.

You are always welcomed in The Villages no matter when. July will be hot but it will probably be that way in Ohio also. C'mon down.
If the COPID-19 is still going on, things will not be back to normal yet.

Oh I so agree with you. First time I'm here for various reasons after memorial day. I hate heat - I'm one of those that will never acclimate. For those who want to experience this - warm the oven to 350 degrees F and stick your head into it. It's the same feeling as opening the front door after 9 AM.
No you really need a pan of water in the oven for the humidity!

If you don't bring the virus with you then come on down. It's hot, it's humid, rains now late everyday. Lots of renters here from NY and I try to stay away from them. I feel sorry for them but at 74 I don't want the virus.

If you're from the South like me the heat is just the heat in Summer. I play champ golf in it three days a week. Humidity is good for you. Makes you sweat and get the bad stuff out of your system. The people that were here in Central FL before us were mostly farmers who grew crops, plowed the fields and cultivated in the heat. If you get here and don't like it there is an old Southern saying.." Delta is ready when you are"!

absolutely not true. I'm originally from massachusetts and since I moved here 9 years ago, I play outside year round.

I read your first sentence and was feeling bad for you and your family.
Then I read the rest of your post and I'm absolutely mystified.
If you consider it "horrible" news that your wife was laid off, I'm assuming it's relatively important to your family that she soon finds a new job and continues to bring in money.
If that's the case, I'm finding it hard to understand how you can in any way justify spending the time and money for a month long vacation in Florida.
On the other hand, if losing her job is not a problem, why did you even mention it?
We are fine financially, physically and emotionally. How are you? Thanks for your concern.

The house next door to us has turned into a rental. We don't like it. The most recent renters were from the UK that brought other people over during the height of lockdown.
You must live close to me. Yes, they were absolute jerks. Pool parties etc.

Long term renters always welcome. Short term AIRBNB renters stay away.
Gosh, I still work full time. I get 10 vacation days and 3 floating holidays per year because of a job change almost 5 years ago. I have rented in The Villages quite a few times for 7 to 9 days for the past several years...I have never caused a problem with any of the homes I rented. I turn 60 in a few months...my wild and crazy years are in the distant past. I still hope to make The Villages my home in a few years. This kind of post saddens me.
I was planning on renting in The Villages for 8 days in September. Because of COVID-19, I am on the fence about renting in September. Maybe October would be better for my visit. Unsure of what to do.
Checked on the 14 day self quarantine rule for Florida . . . that is only applicable for visitors from or have traveled through New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

So I live in Ohio and my wife got laid off horrible news right. We were thinking of coming down to TV for the month of July. Do you welcome us? Or feel we shouldn't be there right now?:welcome:???
From a Villages wannabee, if you are considering becoming a full-time resident of The Villages, renting in the summer is a good idea to see how you acclimate to the heat and humidity. I have rented several times in The Villages during the summer months just to see how I would do, because if/when I do move south, I will be a full-time resident as I cannot afford to be a snowbird.
Yes it is consistently hot and humid in Florida in July, but I would rather deal with heat and humidity than a Chicago winter. That is just my 2 cents.
I just read your post that you have a rental for July. Enjoy it!

My wife Laura and I have rented three other times for a week to ten days. We are also limited with our mutual schedules and vacation. Our experiences in renting short term in TV have been amazing and very pleasant, no pool parties. lol. We are from Cleveland area but have many relatives in Chicago so I understand your winter blues. Thanks for responding. Enjoy your opportunities to rent in TV.

If you're from the South then heat is part of the Summer. Never bothers me. If it bothers you I would suggest some where North.

Our place in historic is available. All cleaned and ready to go.😊
I wonder if people who rent live here? I bet they get more bites without ornaments.

You really aren’t suggesting there is something wrong with renting in the older sections. I never thought of you as the person who looks down their nose at the historic side, even if they can add ornamental pieces

Come on Down! We rented for 5 months before we bought. That may not be the reason for your trip but we welcome renters.

Anyone who is considering moving here needs more than a week to decide.
We rented for the month of June last year and had plenty of time to decide we wanted to buy and where to look.
Will say that right now would not get the complete flavor of living here with so much shut down due to the virus.

If I am around you, I will assume you carry the Chinese Virus and I will keep my distance. Of course, I do that with everyone.
In other words, I will treat you like I treat everyone. So you are very welcome to come and stay for as long as you want.
