What is the best refrig?
side by side or one with french doors
and what brand would you get
I've had both and I prefer the side by side. Hubby liked our french door one. Had it at our previous house and didn't bring it with us.
One thing you have to think about is do you like having a freezer on the bottom? Some french door fridges have two drawer freezer sections. Ours had one and digging through the freezer to find things was sort of annoying for me. Again, hubby didn't seem to mind.
I'm short and had difficulty with the top shelf of the fridge. Things in the back on the top shelf were difficult to get to.
The french door fridges do look good and being able to open both doors gave lots of room to put things in and take things out.
Some side by side fridge/freezers don't have wide freezers and storing large pizzas or other things that are large can be a problem.
Good luck.

Do yourself a favor. Anything except GE.

We recently replaced all of our builder provided GE appliances. They served us well for 12+ years. Went with Maytag which I understand along with Amana is all part of Whirlpool. We opted to get french door refrigerator with freezer on bottom. So far (3months) we have had 2 service calls for the through door ice maker. On second call it was only determined that the first technician didn't re-connect the unit properly.
We like having freezer on bottom with the slide out bins because it is easier to find things.
Oh, we found that we got a better price at HH Gregg in Ocala than what we were quoted at Home Depot for same units and HH Gregg was able to deliver within 2 days of our order and Home Depot said items were back ordered. They both offered 12 months no interest deals.

I think the best is Subzero... we've had 2 Subzero's in 2 different houses and never had a single problem with either one of them. A bit expensive, but worth it in the long run... Next choice would be Viking, but their residential line is not as robust as the commercial offerings, so a bit of caution there.

French door, freezer on bottom and love it...French door is great if you have large platters, plenty of room....We had GE monogram in our other home and loved it, double doors, NEVER had any problem....Also had Subzero, I think the service man lived with us, many problems,,,,

I have chosen The Villages over the refrigerator that I truly love. My friends can't believe it.
We remodeled our kitchen in Cincinnati a while ago and I got a big ole built in (fancy name too). The Villages do not offer that choice.
Everything else makes up for it. We have a side by side with ice in the door. It is fine. sigh.
