Cataract Surgery - Crystalens/Toric Lens

Has anyone had cataract surgery (not necessarily in TV) and had either the Crystalens or Toric Lens implanted?

I was told by my Dr. that 'most' people don't need glasses after having the Crystalens implanted, but the results, in my case, were very disappointing as I still distance and reading correction. Because of that my other eye was implanted with the Toric lens and my Dr. told me that 'most' people don't need glasses for distance, but I would still need reading correction. Well, that didn't work either and I'm back to progressives for both eyes.

These lens require an additional charge ($2,000 for the Crystalens and $1000 for the Toric Lens), but since I am fairly young to need cataract surgery (62) the idea of not wearing glasses was attractive enough to justify the cost.

I'd like to know if anyone else has had experience with these lenses?

I had the Crystalens lens implanted in one eye ----- extra money & disappointing results.
Not only is my vision poor, I have trouble distinquishing shades of color. I need to have the
other eye done but don't know what to do. My husband had the standard lenses implanted in both of his eyes and sees much better than me. What to do...............help?

Funny you should mention colors - I have noticed a difference in color perception in each eye.

In the morning when I get dressed, I close one eye and check to see if I'm color coordinated and then I repeat the process with the other eye. If I don't get a yes answer for each eye I change my clothes. :(

Do they make Garanimals for adults?

Now maybe I understand why sometimes elderly people wear odd color combinations!

I had the standard lens put in 1 eye. I can now drive day or night with no glasses. I need reading glasses for everything now. That is my only disappointment. I considered the premium lens for the next eye but after reading these posts, I am wondering.

I had crystal lens implanted when I was 51 yr old both eyes, I was tired of wearing progressives, never regreted it, never experienced any neg side effeicts can see 20/20 both eyes. I didnt have cataracts to begin with. It cost me over $10,000 with eye drops that were required Pre/post OP. My insurance didnt cover it because it was not medically necessary. But it was worth every penny. I hated wearing glasses. Did need readers until I was 40 yrs old, then when hit 50 needed for distance.

I opted for the regular (mono) lens, Neither my insurance company or Medicare would foot the $2000 per eye for the special lenses. I am happy. I do not mind wearing the reading glasses. They are so cheap that it does not matter. $5-14 at Walgreen's.

I guess one of the kickers was when the eye doctor said that you MIGHT not need reading glasses. MIGHT vs NOT was a decision maker.

I had the RESTOR lense in both eyes about four years ago. Have never had a problem. I have not worn glasses since for distance or reading. My wife had the same lense a year ago. Same good results. She is an optician and recommended the RESTOR lense.
