When i purchased a new golf cart last year the cost for insurance thru Foremost was $153. I got a renewal notice in the mail today and the price for same coverage jumped to $208. That is a 35.9% increase. No claims from my end. Anyone else with Foremost seeing this kind of increase? Can anyone suggest a cheaper alternative?

How many of your neighbors have gotten new roofs on their golf carts because of weather damage? I hear something like that is going around.

We switched to Allstate since our car insurance is with them and we get multiple-vehicle and multiple-coverage discounts (since golf carts aren't considered automobiles, it's a different type of insurance). We were paying somewhere around $180-something, now we're paying something like $140-something. Not a LOT of difference, but it's a few nights of going-out-to-dinner money we wouldn't have had otherwise.

Posting how much you were billed doesn't mean much unless you also post your exact coverages. Just got a quote from Allstate for $112 for full coverage and Progressive for $108 (took Progressive, I have a grudge against Allstate from 30+ years ago plus they were $1200 more than GEICO for my auto insurance).
Progressive Coverage includes (same coverages were quoted for Allstate for $112:
Bodily Injury Liability:$ 250,000 each person $500,000 each accident $24.00
Property Damage Liability: $100,000 each accident $12.00
Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: $25,000 each person $50,000 each accident - Nonstacked $12.00 (def don't need this but for $12 wtf)
Medical Payments: No Coverage $0.00
Enhanced Injury Protection: No Coverage $0.00
Comprehensive: $100 deductible $25.00
Collision: $250 deductible: $35.00
Roadside Assistance: No Coverage $0.00
Carried Contents®: No Coverage $0.00
Accessory coverage: 3,000 (included) Included
Total rate for this vehicle: $108.00 (paid up front) for 12 months
If I paid monthly it was like $33 more for the year. Did it all online in 10 minutes.
If you have had any accidents, claims, tickets or lousy credit on ANY POLICY you rate can be much higher. I have none of those.

Sometimes people don't consider how their rates will change with any claim and how it will affect any other policy they have. You'd be surprised how a $200-$300 comp claim on a golf cart even if you are not at fault can affect your auto and/or homeowners next renewal due to your insurance score. Sometimes it pays to just let it be unless the damage is severe. That's why when they ask on insurance apps if you have had ANY claims even if not at fault and it's easy to get a free copy of your CLUE report to see what they have on you from Lexis-Nexis.

Should have same limits as Bodily Injury. UM in Florida protects you if injured in accident by an uninsured or underinsured driver. Covers pain and suffering, rehabilitation, temporary nursing home and death that tradition health insurance does not cover. Worth the few extra $$. Lots of uninsured and underinsured drivers.

I ask my broker to look at rates annually. It's not uncommon that they will switch me to a different company based on rates and coverage. It pays to shop around each year. The insurance companies rely on you not shopping, and just pay the bill.

Dod you go through The Villages insurance? I noticed when I was eith them after the 1st year each one of my policies went up drastically. I dropped them and went with Progressive. Everytime I added something I got a bigger discount. Eventually I got my golf cart, car, motorcycle and then home all switched to Progressive. I have to have all high limits to meet the minimums for my umbrella policy. I am saving about 600.00 over the Villages policies now.

All insurance companies will be raising premiums, as a result of having to pay claims as a result the recent destruction from looting and property damage, as well as business interruption claims due to COVID-19. In Florida we’re looking at an active hurricane season, in which insurance companies, need to insure sufficient reserves (money) to pay out claims.

When my GC ins. premium went way up a couple of years ago, I went back to the Villages Ins. agent. She looked at the policy as said the ins. co. must have changed my cart information. So she changed it back, asked me to give a new value of the cart, and my premium went down about $100. The ins. co. does not depreciate your cart every year so they inflate the premium. You know that if something happens they will depreciate then so they won't have to pay out on the claim.

Full max coverage with medical on 3 carts with Foremost is $200.00 a year. All Yamaha gas, 2017,2011 and 2007. Just paid premium. I package Home, car, umbrella with Travelers and cart with Foremost but all through The Villages Insurance Brokers. This way I get a package discount. I shop every year and it is the most cost effective way to go. NO tickets or accidents for over 15 years.
Folks post insurance pricing on here but there are so many variables. What is the rest of the story?

My cart was insured for the purchase price when new. Now after two years I is worth at least $3000 less. The insurance companies will only pay you the value of the cart if totaled. I reduced the value on the policy to match its worth and saved a bundle with Formost. Don’t waste money over insuring.

Medical payments is a waste of money on GC (or even car). You have insurance either medicare or private.
Uninsured motorist is also a waste especially at the high rates that are charged for it. You should all DO a LOT of reading about UM in FL. This is a GOLF CART not a car. Once again, if you have medicare or private insurance you are covered. UM (either lower coverage) or not at all is probably 1/3rd or more of your rate.

You're right about the medical payments coverage. A friend was injured in a golf cart collision and when she needed to go to rehab, the rehab facility declined to accept their golf cart medical payments as primary and her husband had to come with $$$ in cash before they would admit her. I cancelled that coverage on our policy so that Medicare would be primary.

OP with a follow up. I contacted Villages insurance last Friday to ask them to research a cheaper alternative for golf cart insurance. I wonder why, when we already have homeowners and car insurance with Progressive thru Villages Insurance, they did not originally quote Progressive.
Regardless I contacted Progressive today and got a quote of $102 for 1 year golf cart insurance with same coverage. Plus I will have a slight decrease in car insurance for multi policies.
It will be interesting what Villages Insurance will offer when they follow up.

I just got a quote from a Farmer's agent in Orlando. Golf Cart insurance is out of line. Their motorcycle quote was good, though.

If you go to The Villages Ins in person, they may be able to get you a lower rate. The same thing happened to me a few years ago and they were able to get me an even lower rate than I was paying. And I was able to stay with foremost. I had called foremost directly and they said they could not help me, but The Villages Ins did. Give them a try.....

To put it simple: yes exactly the same- their increase and no claims ever $208. I switched to progressive yesterday even though it was within $2 different. For me, it was the moral and ethical reason. The more I think about it probably has to do with CVD 19 and they have to make up dollars lost for the year- not to say that I agree with this practice cuz that increase is too huge IMO. Things just seem way out of whack this year. Like... Twilight zone episodes every part of life circumstances. The sad part is that this will be the new normal and they will never decrease!

I started with Foremost golf cart insurance in 2011, and it was $140. Over the years it had gone down to about $90 and then last year shot back up to $140, and the new bill came yesterday at $102. I've never had a claim or a ticket.
I can live with $140 or less. My neighbor that I play golf with, said he doesn't have golf cart insurance. He worked for a major insurer in Jacksonville for several years, and said it's covered under his homeowners. From I read, it's only covered if you're traveling to and from the golf course and on the golf course. That's his decision.
