Currently have United Healthcare Dental and thinking of changing. Which are good plans used here in the The Villages? (That is, they have a network with dentists in the area that you can access.) Also, who are the most gentle dentists who are not always interested in elaborate and expensive "treatment plans?" Thanks. P.S. Do a lot of people here just pay out of pocket, not using insurance?

I pay out of pocket. I guess if you time your dental work and game the system, you may save money. But, it doesn't seem right to me that dentists should base their pricing on how much a dental plan will pay.

No dental insurance, when I first moved to TV , decided to have all my teeth covered with crowns-- was very expensive, but the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back was-- I had a crown come lose & the dentist charged me to re-cement it--after $30K

I took the first respondant's advice and went to Costa Rica for expensive procedures, lower cost proceedures are done locally. All out of pocket.

How did you know where to go in Costa Rica? Is there a site or information on going there?

Costa Rica is rated the best , I had a lot of work in Mexico when I lived in the border29 years ago in Arizona, there are web sites where you can look up ratings of dentist ,have someone come with you , if you can and get some insurance. arrange for some follow up when you get back before you go
