Does anyone know what's going on at the S.E. corner of 301 and the Turnpike? They've brought in hundreds of dump truck loads of dirt and have made mountains. Lots of activity over there but can't figure out if it's The Villages or not.

No idea what it is, but 301 at the Turnpike is highly unlikely that it has anything to do with The Villages. Maybe they are going to start to redesign the entrance or exit ramps? You never know though with T.V. though, maybe that's where the newest square is going to be built or a new Costco drive through? :D :D

From a TV web page, the green areas are part of The Villages.

See Don Wiley's video upthread. An overview of what's happening between Deluna and 301, just south of the Turnpike. Yes, future The Villages development. For now, they are stockpiling dirt and clearing the land.

This is one of several stockpile yards used during the construction of new areas of The Villages, there area at least 3 others right now. Dirt is hauled away from an area and stored here until they are ready to sculpt the area landscaping. It is easier to put in the underground utilities when the ground is at a near constant level then build the desired areas back up after they are in. Most developments would just put the dirt at one end of the property and then move it around several times as they complete their work, this happened at the Beaumont development. The Villages has the luxury of having plenty of property to be able to move the dirt completely off-site and out of the way so they can do their work. It seems like a lot of work and energy expended but apparently it is more cost effective as they have been doing it this way for a long time and the developer is very successful at what they do.

The stockpile yards I know of are the 2 at this location, 3 south of the Coleman prison on the south side of CR470, and one in the Villages of West Lakes. Other recent stockpile locations are on the NE corner of 468 & the turnpike, one in McClure, and one were the Lowlands golf course is (part still remains between holes 3 & 6).

The developer knows exactly how much dirt is there and where and when it will be moved. The 301/turnpike location will eventually be another section of CDD13's residential areas. There is a drawing of this area towards the end of my latest video posting.

Are there 2 different turnpike entrances on 301? The only entrance I know of is just past the 44 & 75 turn which is nowhere near The Villages property.

EDIT: Never mind, he didn't say Turnpike ENTRANCE just TURNPIKE/301. Makes more sense.
