I have been trying to think of a good nickname for people like my wife and myself A nickname that could be used for people that only leave the safety and security of their home for curb side grocery pickups at Walmart and Sam’s Club. When picking up our mail after dark or early morning wearing a mask just incase we happen to come to close to someone. Do video calls to our doctors. Not going out to bars or restaurants. Maybe I will call myself a bear. I do feel like I have been hibernating. Just waiting for the time I can come out and start living again. Fortunately my wife and I have each other to pass the time with. But we are both thinking about going out and playing some golf again. However as much as there is the ability to social distance ourself from the other players, in our heads it is still risky. I would feel uncomfortable playing golf with a couple that still goes to bars and restaurants. If I could find like minded people other bears I might take the risk. If there are other bears out there I would like to get your thought.

We have been staying in and when going food shopping always wear a mask.

Go for walks around our neighborhood without a mask as people have been great at social distancing here.

Our first DR appointment here (moved here in Feb) was virtual.

I think it is great you are being careful but to me you are doing more than I would but you are you and should do what you are comfortable doing.

I have become more of a Sloth.
I also consider social distancing has been one of the great bonus's of this virus.
Long may it continue.

How about a "Panicist"? I am too old to spend the rest of my life hiding in my house. I will wear a mask when required, and I won't be shaking your hand, but I will never be a hermit.

Not extinct yet. Saw a few 2 years ago in guess where? Tasmania. They are dying of cancer of the face. Yuck!

everyone needs to take precautions during this era of covid-19

some may regret that they are throwing caution to the wind...we'll have to see how that works out for them

you have an approach that is working for you and your wife...stay with it, modify it as time passes if you choose to

as far as a nickname...what came to mind for me was 'Selfie'....you're taking care of your selves, on your terms

a 'Bear' hibernates and is totally cut off from everything....that's not what you're doing

stay safe and continue to follow your values

There have been numerous articles on this and I listened to some of the same questions on doctor radio . Many people feel the same way, maybe try walking outside for a while play golf just the 2 of you , try a restaurant that is being very careful , bone fish, blue fin or Carrabba’s , I was there I’ll admit the first time out to dentist I was nervous it takes time but you need to start somewhere

Wife and I are very cautious and we miss our normal social interactions. Sooner or later we will all need to take a first step in resuming a more or less normal existence. In the case of healthcare, there are times when "in person" is the only option. Can't fill a cavity over the phone, can't set a broken on "zoom". Have not been to our favorite restaurants yet, but have had take out a couple of times we were away from home.
Stay safe. Stay healthy. Do what you feel you must for yourself and those you love.

You may want to check the "urban dictionary" for a definition of bears

Endangered, not extinct.

My wife and I pretty much fit your definition of "bears", Domenick. (No...it's not just my ToTV ID! :))

We're not exactly hibernating, but we have limited our social activity to some golf, an occasional cautious restaurant visit, and other such things. I don't imagine it's been as big of a problem for us as for some others, because we're the type to spend quite a bit of time at home anyway. I do some sports and such, all but golf has pretty much drawn to a stop. My wife is in a dance group that has had activities curtailed for a while. And our visits to our fitness club have been on hold. But we're not the type couple that has to be out-and-about all the time. The thing we miss the most is the squares entertainment. That we went to several times every week. Really looking forward to its return.

Was in Bluefin last week. Food great, server had mask. BUT the outside bartender had her mask pulled down on her neck and was laughing and joking loudly with 7 people with no masks sitting at the bar Less than 3’ away from her.
