We've only been here two months. Havana and Tierra del Sol were horrible. Cane is good. Pls help us out with your favorite country club restaurant. We're looking for tasty not necessarily ambiance.

Lopez, Glenview, Cane. I've had only the breakfast buffet at Hacienda Hills. It was wonderful, so we'll probably try it for lunch or dinner.

We had a delicious dinner at Palmer last week and will go back again. Cane was ok. Hacienda has been good for breakfast and lunch, but haven't tried for dinner. Look forward to trying Lopez.

Curly top,
I agree Palmer is very good. Haven't been there in a long time and had forgotten. Worth putting on your list. More expensive than the others though.

We've been to Palmer twice and had great meals, great service and even got some ambience thrown in.:p But it should be a special occassion.

Just go to The Villages Gourmet Club's Website (http://home.comcast.net/~thevillagesgourmetclub/), the members review all the restaurants in the area and were just written up in the August 2010 Lake & Sumter Style Magazine (http://en.calameo.com/read/00007797911190bf9863d?page=50). I trust the reviews, these people know what they are taking about. I love the new videos too. Best source of information anywhere.

Me & Ms AG must not be picky. Over the past year that we have owned, we have dined out many times at many of the CCs and other eating establishments and never had a bad meal at any. Just the serve is questionable at some.

Chicken was tough at Glenview recently. Cane is the best.

We've been residents since 2003. Without doubt Lopez. We have never been dissatisfied and the service is outstanding.

We like them all for different things. We don't go to Palmer or Lopez much. They are good, but pricy for us because we eat out every night.
We like to go to Hacienda Hills Country Club. If you haven't been there in awhile, you should go. They have some awesome specials.
Tuesday & Wednesday they have 1/2 price entrees. We went last night. I got the baked haddock, baked potato & snow peas. The cost was $5.50 !! I even had a small piece of fish & some baked potato left over that I just had for lunch today. Gary got the cajun pasta. His was $6.50 with plenty to take home & he's a big eater. They also give you bread. They have a delicious loaf of crusty bread. We each had a drink. I had white zinfandel & Gary had a 7 & 7. Our bill cam to $18.30. That's quite a bargain & it was all delicious.

I have found Cane to be good for "standard-fare" stuff. That is, they have pretty basic stuff on their menu but do it reasonably well ... except for the pot roast which I found to be border-line dreadful. For groups of up to 8, I like their round tables which facilitate conversation far better than rectangular tables. I like the fact that they do not have music ... unlike Havana last night where the music was awful and also so loud you couldn't hear what the person across the table was saying.

For some creative dishes, we have found Lopez to be head and shoulders above the rest. They are a bit pricey compared with other CC restaurants, but well within reason when compared to restaurants of their caliber off-campus.

Bonny, we have to talk.
It's one thing to say, "I like Cane Garden," or something along those lines, but to tell everybody about the secrets at the different restaurants... Well that's another story. Shhhh! The lines will be out the door if everybody discovers the best-kept-secrets.

I only tell very close friends about the 1/2 price entrees at Hacienda Hills, or the all-you-can-eat wings at Mallory, or the Key Lime Shrimp at TGIFriday's, or the $5 lunches at Glenview, or the Friday & Saturday $1 margaritas at Sonny's... oops! Nevermind.

Yes, you are right. Let's not tell anyone. Also keep this between you & I, the buy one get one fajitas at Codys on Wednesdays or their $1.99 bar burger. LOL :D

I visit The Villages Gourmet site often and have found their reviews helpful. However, they lost some credibility with me when they rated CiCi Pizza in Colony Plaza as a 12 out of 15. I know it was based on only one review, but really... a 12? For cardboard with sauce...

Country Clubs I like:

Nancy Lopez for our anniversary - expensive but good food.

Glenview, Hacienda Hills and Arnold Palmer for lunches as we do not eat dinner out (except for our anniversary - see above)

Exception - Orange Blossom - good lunches but a long travel from Marion county.

I saw the rating for CiCi's and had the same reaction. I don't believe I have ever had worse pizza than what they serve there.

It's all what people are used to.

Some folks here think good Italian food comes out of a can...:boom::crap2:

Lopez is the best and Palmer is second best.

Both have good food and service but I think Lopez has better food, especially the Harris Ranch steaks and the service is consistanly good if not outstanding.

Other clubs I have tried are hit or miss, sometimes good, sometimes not.
Even Havana has good food and service occasionally!

Note that Hacienda Hills country club has a 9 rating and Havana has a 11 1/2. Wrong on both clubs in my humble opinion. Problem is, these restaurants can change over night. TOTV is the place to keep up with the changes both good and bad about almost anything.

I think Cane Garden has excellent meatloaf. Despite lots of criticism of Glenview, I like eating lunch there. Great views.
