Why aren't stop signs placed at tunnel exits where through traffic continues full speed if they are not going through the tunnel. When exiting a tunnel it can be difficult to determine how fast a cart is approaching creating a potential for a series accident. Why not put 3 way stop signs at these points to slow people down who are rushing to a tee time or just in a hurry. Many people don't slow when approaching these intersections and the mirrors really don't let you see what's coming unless it's right on
top of the intersection.

How many accidents are you aware of at tunnel exits?

Are they reported somewhere? I am making an observation from personal experience only.

I agree some come off hills leading down through tunnel exits at full throttle. By time you look one way, then the other, then back and pull out. The cart come out of the blue. Nice little speed bump would cure this problem. The ones that got straight shot down to tunnels are the worse.

I can't be specific but pretty sure many tunnels have a speed bump or a painted stop sign on the payment at the end. But the best rule is to always assume a high flying idiot is coming your way. Look twice both ways, then turn.

The stop sign is painted on the pavement where it is required.

I agree with your advice.
But referring to a driver who has the right-of-way and happens to be going downhill as an idiot? Not so much.

come on....maybe because they figured that the golf cart drivers were adults and would know enough about the rules of the road and safe driving when they came to an intersection and would operate safely.
Stupid is what stupid does.... ya wanna take a risk, understand there are consequences....maybe not the first time you do it, but life will show up for you. I hear the mac & cheese in the hospital is better than it used to be

Why waste the money, people in golf carts run stops signs at intersections all the time.

Yes, yes, yes.
Exiting the Morse tunnel between Lake Sumter and 466 is frightening.
Why?
The cart driver must pull forward, through the stop signage, just to see carts flying down from the north and south.
Then accelerate from a stop.
And, as most carts are gas fueled, with the stupid engine stop / start feature, the cart takes a moment to re-start before moving.

One thing we don't need is more speed bumps and unnecessary stop signs. What we do need is more enforcement of existing laws and better use of common sense. Why punish all drivers with more speed bumps and stop signs for the sins of a few?

I seem to remember a stop sign painted on the ground already at every tunnel exit. If traffic is coming down the ramp at high speed, you should stay and wait until traffic clears.

In my opinion the most dangerous place to drive a golf cart in the Villages is going by the tunnel near the Seabreeze Recreation Center. We have almost been t-boned twice by carts coming out of the tunnel without stopping. If a cart was coming in the other direction, preventing me from swerving into the other lane, we would have been sideswiped. I hate speed bumps, but a very large speed bump needs to be put in to force carts going through the tunnel to stop before turning onto the MMP.

The safe common sense way of operating golf carts here in the villages went out the window a long time ago. The only thing you can do is drive defensively. I've been curious of how long a gas golf cart engine lasts before blowing out because the speed was juked up.

Operative term was "high flying."

Years back while in the Army I taught Defensive Driving classes for fellow soldiers and spouses. Haven't seen any of these courses offered in years, maybe it is some thing TV could start providing at the rec centers. One thing I stressed in my class was never expect the other driver to do the correct thing and to always be prepared for them to do the wrong thing.

i believe all signage throughout the villages for golf carts be a LIME GREEN color...."golf cart path".."no carts beyond this point"...etc......visitors,newbees,everyone in general could benefit for safety reasons......i must admit i have made mistakes.....i stop for red stop signs "all the same shape and color.....:)

Quit awhile, it s glorified lawn mower engine. With governor deactivated the cart will slowly wind up to 38 plus mph depending on size of tires. The limitation of the air intake opening and the weight of the cart won’t allow the engine to explode. Without oil changes to reduce the heat and wear that will increase the wear on connection rod and you hear knock long before failure. Then, out of the blue bang. Just like cart that ran low on oil prolonged time or ran out of oil. I keep my cart right at 20 MPH, it will last very, very long time due to no load engine and routine oil changes.
