Just in case people haven’t been watching/reading the news, Covid cases are going up substantially; why risk getting the virus as old and in bad health as some of you are?

NO WAY-to hot & humid to be outdoors for anything but swimming--+ -rising COVID cases in Fl are a real warning, & combined with an influx of visitors- risk vs reward is an absolute no brainer
Will not be dining out & going to theaters for quite awhile--not willing to take any chances for a few minutes of pleasure--
Smart people did the same thing when HIV was rampant-- the result could be the same

Nope, we have made lots of sacrifices since early March. Don’t want to do anything yet that risks undoing all those sacrifices. The biggest risks I am willing to take are golfing and lap swimming, which are both very low risk if done carefully. Also, too many younger non-Villagers visit the town squares. I think that’s great during normal times, but not with Covid as younger people generally are not nearly as cautious.

As soon as The Vaccine is given and I give it a week or so to work its way into all my Hemoglobins I still wouldn't go to the square. I'm making the call about when and where and how we will move around. The worst for us personally is not going to the pool. Not too bad. Oh and that pesky vacation we were going to take to see the grandchildren. That's the rough one. Damn! We were looking forward to that big time.
The Squares! Forgetabouit.
See the thing that made this even more real to us was the loss of 4 friends to the virus. 1 in Jersey and 3 in N.Y. Great people, all former co-workers but they were the invincible types. I'm so sad to not have them but learned from their mistakes.
A great friend on TOTV'S had a family member die from the virus and it has devastated that person. The people who don't follow guidelines are lucky they haven't had situations like this happen to people they know.
My Opinion is its too early for the Squares but if you do end up going I wish you NOTHING but the best!

Sure, we would go to Brownwood where the sound system is better. Since the music is always to loud for me, we sit pretty far back where we are not close to people.

Nope. Too many new cases of Covid-19 positive tests. Too risky to be in crowds even if it were cooler and less humid. We still mask in stores. Carry out rather than eat in at restaurants.

too many people not practicing socially distancing in the squares when the music returns. huge upsurge now as more young people don't give a darn and will continue to transmit the virus to others. just look in the stores and see who isn't following any guidelines now. stay home, stay safer and stay alive.

I live alone, so going down to Brownwood, to get a drink and sit listening to the music, was something I greatly enjoyed. And I’ve really missed it. Mind you, I feel the same about the Rec Centers. So I guess I would go. With a mask and keep well away from everybody else.

You'd have to go through each zip code on that website but I don't see a "by day" breakdown for zips only total. There is no "The Villages" specific listing however:
32162 has had a TOTAL of 67
32163 a TOTAL of 21
32159 around 5.
So just those 3 zipcodes that are here in Sumter County inside T.V. (so it's NOT including the prison) have had 93 out of 297 countywide which is a bit more than 30% of the entire Sumter county
33513 which includes the prison has had 124.

If you go to the Florida Department of Health COVID-19 web site:
Home | Florida Department of Health COVID-19 Outbreak (https://floridahealthcovid19.gov)
Scroll down to the "Review case" box and select SEE STATE REPORT. Be patient, it is a huge report, but if you search for "The Villages" and/or "Lady Lake" you can see the numbers for each (there are 3 listings for The Villages, Sumter, Lake and Marion) and 2 for Lady Lake (Lake and Sumter.) The listing by city start about page 6.

With the way Florida and other places as well are going backwards (even if it isn't as bad right here in The Bubble but it is trending UP) sadly we'll be lucky for entertainment here to be back by October either by The Villages Decree or by The Governator Jr. realizing that "oh gee, people REALLY ARE getting infected" faster then he wants to admit and limits public group gatherings again. They may TRY to restart sooner but like the baseball and football seasons it won't last long or even start. Rocky and The Elders may be relaxing in Happy Trails Nursing and Singing Home before you hear from them again. :) . Anyone wanna bet that IF Disney opens as they are trying to do in 2 weeks that won't last either. Their employees don't seem they want to come back.

Have you read the headlines or followed the news in the last 24 hours? I am certainly not heading toward ANY groups of people. Only about 7 percent of U.S. population has had Covid-19, so the opportunity to catch it is very great and to die is also very great if you are older, which we all are in The Villages.

I truly believe that the villages has made a large mistake by opening up the squares this soon. In the villages we are lucky that our cases are small, but opening up the squares could cause a spike here in The Villages. I definitely will not be attending any of the activities in the square.

Nope. Virus is on the rise. Too much division on wearing masks and social distancing. Squares are open to people from all the surrounding communities.
Just over the weekend I played golf with someone who had it and on Next Door Neighbor... a couple was warning the public that they had a garage sale and a few days later both came down with virus. They wanted anyone that came to go get tested and watch for symptoms.

With the rise in Covid cases and the lack of our community not wearing masks outside and inside we would definitely continue to hibernate and not go to the squares. With all the scientist recommending and now some States requiring the facial masks we must also adhere to wearing a mask at all times around people.

With respect, I don’t think the result could be the same. (Laughing, sort of.) Not a single person caught HIV from sitting in a lawn chair on a square enjoying music or chatting with friends or dancing together or even kissing each other. Not one! HIV was quite difficult to catch. COVID-19 is quite easy to catch by people who are still breathing and are near other people who are still breathing and maybe talking loudly in their direction. The great lifesaver is only an extremely tiny number of residents of The Villages have the virus. Only about one-sixteenth of one percent, last I ran the numbers. Of those, most have gotten over it and are not contagious.
What would you think, though, of limiting the squares to Residents Only during evenings for the rest of the year? Should we be letting in people from all over the area, especially those under 55? Many of those visitors spend a lot of time in places where social distancing is not possible, such as bars and clubs.

Sounds like a good idea, BUT, it would call for the square to be entirely enclosed and allow admission only with a Village ID. Who's going to pay for that? Would that promote the concept of this being Florida's Friendliest Hometown? The roads are PUBLIC roads and since TV is NOT a gated or private community, outsiders can NOT be prohibited to be there.

Yup - with reasonable self discipline, e.g., masks and/or separation. And, wearing a mask is a choice I make to protect others from me, simply a matter of personal responsibility and respect for them. There may NEVER be a vaccine so, waiting for that means perpetual quarantine.

That would be a hard no for me. I have rarely gone to squares or rec centers for several years now. Too crowded, way too many people, long lines for everything, standing room only and just too hot outdoors. Gave up on lap swimming 5-6 years ago.
Since the pandemic, I've added restaurants and theaters to the list of 'nope, not going there.' Staying safely at home has been no problem for me. hardly changed my life. Now all the regular citizens without agoraphobia or PTSD have had to adjust to giving up their social activities since the pandemic started. Welcome to my world! LOL :1rotfl:

squares will not open as long as numbers are on the rise just say thanks to all who won't wear masks
This is exactly the point I made a week ago in another thread. Our economy will not prosper and get back to normal unless people wear masks in public when social distancing is not guaranteed. People who refuse to wear masks when appropriate are not grasping the big picture. They claim they want to be free to live their lives and free to do what they want to do. Not wearing a mask is yielding just the opposite effect of what they are attempting to accomplish.

Interesting .. You will not go out until there's a vaccine that's been out for a week.
Aren't you concerned that it might be a month, a year, maybe 5 years before side effects, including DEATH appear ?? Don;t you think that you should wait for MILLIONS of doses to be given before you are comfortable that it really works ?? After all, shouldn;t you go through a few "FLU" seasons andother weather changes to be absolutely SURE that it works and it won;t give you any side effects ??
You know, EVERYONE used talcum powder on their babies (and women on themselves) in the 50, 60's etc .. and only in the past few years have there been lawsuits against their issues.
Would you sign a waiver NOT TO SUE ?? What if they wouldnt give the vaccine to you unless you signed it ??
Sounds to me like you better hunker down and wait a few years before it's safe to go out ..
