View Full Version : Sawgrass Grove...mini version of a town square?

Just watched all 3 videos talking about the new championship course and Sawgrass Grove. If you watch the design video, they go into detail about the theme and what will be there. The new country club will have a Scottish pub theme, there will be a new pitch and putt, a large regional rec center, a large covered farmer's market, and a bandstand with what looks like the type of bars at the other town centers. We are excited...our location in Monarch Grove appears to be less than a 10 minute cart ride! At no point do they use the term "town" or "square", so we are calling it a "social center". We're excited to be 10 mins away from seeing live music!

there will be a new pitch and putt

According to the map, I doubt there will be enough room for a pitch and putt. Maybe a putt and play.

In Kenny Ezell's video, he mentions a "putting course", but in Tracy Morse's Sawgrass design video, she says "we named the putting...the pitch and putt after George Clifton" which is Kenny's assistant. Wonder who is right?

Just as easy to wait until it’s done than to guess

The drawing appears to be a putting course.

No pitch and putt, putting only. No new executive courses and only one 18 hole Championship course. Very disappointing, how many rooftops can be squeezed in?

We are all so excited for you! As you are gathered around 20,000 of your closest friends, I know you will be excited too!

At the rate they are going, you might see that in about 2030.

It is known that upcoming retirees aren't as interested in golf as the older folk born in the 30's and 40's

Poor excuse for a town square!

I was told about a year ago that the "town square" which will be built south of 44 will not be anything like the three town squares north of 44. The person who told me this information works for the builder.

Is Sawgrass Grove actually being called a "town square"? I wonder if this is what I was told about a year ago.

I just looked at the videos on YouTube about Sawgrass Grove. This area is called Recreation, Market and Restaurant. I don't this this is considered a town square.

Tracy is right. Kenny's last name don't end in Morse.

Since it takes years to fill squares with retail, maybe this new model is the future, along with less golf due to the lack of interest in the younger generation.

Those born in the 30s, 40s, 50s were obsessed with golf and still are. 1960s not as much. Gens there after more concerned With physical sports, that golf, that does not give them. Such as heart rate, like running, biking, hiking.

I am very glad to see TV management doing things different than they used to.

The Marshview pitch-n-putt, Edna's, the beautiful and extensive walking/biking paths, and now Sawgrass - these are very different from what is offered north of Route 44.

We will see what the residents enjoy. If something does not work, I bet they will change it and do something else.

This sounds promising. I have been saying they need a town square South for all the new builds . Even though it won't be like the other 3 town squares, I think if they also have nitely bands and dancing under the pavilion, with a few bars and restaurants, it will be awesome. They probably don't want to invest in stores, like the other town squares. Look how vacant Brownwood was for awhile.

If there is no entertainment (the musicians that are required to play line dancing music) then there will be no reason for you northerners to trek all the way south on your golf carts (30 min or more) to fill up our non-square! You can have that all to yourselves up north!

Looks fantastic! Wow, something new for us South of 44! That’s an awesome design, layout AND THEME and quite unique. Why don’t some of you quit bitching about no executive courses, being done in 2030, 20000 neighbors. Oh, that’s right what, 6 executive courses already south of 44, plus pitch and putt, putt and play, dirt is already being turned and 115000 neighbors north of 44! Please stay up North or if you live in the great Southern Oaks neighborhoods south of 44 and you don’t like it here, LEAVE!

Ya know you don’t have to live in southern area, northern area, or anywhere in TV. It’s public. Those who choose to attend may do so of their own free will. But Nice friendly post for a newer addition to TOTV.

Spanish Springs to LSL 5 miles +/-, LSL to Brownwood 6 miles +/-, Brownwood to “New Town Square” 7 miles +/-, puts the “New Town Square” south of 470. IMHO, Sawgrass is just a placeholder to address the perceived lack of substantive amenities south of 44. The arrival of a new square will be subject to the availability of new road infrastructure, funded in part by the recent tax increase.

Just wondering, as perceived by someone living in Bonita or someone living south of 44?

This has always been referred to as a town center not a town square.

Thank you for helping me understand the access to the squares in TV. I always thought that you had to be an exclusive member of TV to go there!:highfive:

I'm not new to TV I bought in 2012 but just changed zip codes last year.

Well, I'm sure people won't mind you scratching out a check to put in a town square to your liking. Heck, I'm sure "The Family" will even let you pay for it.

I like the new ideas, maybe a mini golf too. The area south of 44 is so remote from a large population center a traditional square wouldn’t be profitable.

Agree, the number of homes planned down here will double the size of The Villages. I feel there will be amenities down here that no one has ever seen before, a lot of experiments going on and mostly good like Pitch & Putt, Edna's on the Green currently the only public place that has live music, pitch & putt, putt & play, neighborhood family pools, rec. centers with bars and restaurants next to them, etc. Very exciting times ahead for the southerners.

OK but given the average age of the folks moving in how long do they have before they will be gone before the amenities come to pass

A lot of doubt when none is warranted. We have been here more than a dozen years and have been so glad to see things unfold better and better. Amenities always come before homes. Always.

We have been here just over 5 months and very happy we made the move.

Before the virus about once a week we visited a square for a band we liked and greatly miss it followed by dinner in a restaurant by a square..

We like being where we are in easy driving distance of all 3. If we were very far south would probably think that Spanish Springs or perhaps Sumter Lander was a bit far away for an evening out.

We started renting in 07, bought first house in 2010. Our friends are DINKS, just bought at 50 and 54, neither play golf, but do triathlons. They can see themselves being around for 25 to 30 years. They too are excited for the new plans for gathering
