This morning I checked my email and there were 6 emails from family and friends wondering what kind of community TV is after they saw the news last night.

Anybody else get some surprising questions from friends and family that know nothing of TV?

Yep.

A number of posts on my Facebook page (and e-mails), have been received asking exactly what kind of place is it (even knowing what a golf nut I am)...where I live? :(

Regardless, this news does not help The Villages. I would imagine the Morse Family is not happy either because they have about 20,000 homes they want to sell.

My phone started chirping last night and hasn’t stopped since. Had to silence the dam thing. Why does the media need to constantly attack the Villages image? These attacks began many years ago, not just recently during these hyper divisive times.

NO STORY AIMED at The Villages.

The story was news because the leader of the free world with the largest bully pulpit that there is and who speaks for all of us....retweeted the video.

Otherwise it was old news from a week or so ago.

The story was not about The Villages, but it does bring "unwanted" press to us.

I actually saw the video on Forbes. There was a comment from somebody asking whether TV was a trailer park for old people!

We are the innocent recipients of attention directed at big mouths. Some cherish marches and parades in order to get attention the their cause. Not me. No way. The next thing you know everyone is talking trash and after that the rocks start sailing and people are stealing other peoples walkers and viagra. NO. Behave nicely and get revenge on this forum with little jabs at people with whom you don't agree.

So Trump made the mistake of retweeting a video of a golf cart Trump parade and when he realized that one of the participants yelled "White Power!" he immediately took the tweet down, as he should have.

I am so sick of hearing people talk to others in such a disparaging way. I have no energy for that type of nonsense and I wish that everyone could get along. TV is mostly a relaxed, peaceful place filled with retirees who are there because they want to play pickle ball, golf and make friends with others going through the same life stage. I have no room in my heart for all of this nasty controversy and I refuse to be embroiled in it.

More impressive is how the agitator or the rest of the parade get no coverage from the camera or the report.

The agitator, reporter and camera person accomplished their goal.

They get a gold star for deceit.....The Villages gets a black eye!

And again as usual it all manages to get glossed over while focusing 100% on what Trump did or did not do.

Fake/distorted/targeted news mission accomplished.

The entire video was tweeted.....the only thing that made national news was that comment.

Some folks do not understand that when you "retweet" or "forward" something, that is an endorsement.

I don't think that the golf cart parade was the least bit wrong or controversial. In this country we are allowed to show support for a candidate.

What was wrong was the way that some of the people began speaking to each other. Standing on the sidelines and hurling nasty insults at others, getting in their faces, standing in front of their golf carts to the point of actually touching their golf carts was not o.k. The nasty "White power!" remark made back was equally not o.k. It also had nothing to do with the nature of the parade - which was simply to show support for our president during a rather horrific time in our country.

If it wasn't for this woman standing in the middle of the street trying to disrupt a peaceful golf cart parade, while she yelled profanities there wouldn't of been any news. The fellow who yelled "White Power" was in retaliation to her yelling 'Where's your Hood. You say nasty things, and you'll get nasty things right back in your face. Can you image wearing a T-Shirt that said, Veterans while riding in your own golf cart, and having this woman jump out in front of you and shouting nasty things right in your face!!

Today I was enjoying a lovely morning in New York. That quickly changed while watching a segment on Good Morning American which portrayed The Villages as a racist community. In the last few hours, I have received text messages from friends and family local and far who are aware that my husband and I own a place in The Villages. It seems that this particular segment was based on the voice of one person; however, it was not reported that way. And...I have a feeling that if this individual could take back his comment, he would do so. Can someone in the know shed light on what actually happened? I am certain there are many of us watching from afar who would appreciate honest information.

At this point the damage is done. Thanks to President Trump, the entire video was posted for the world to see. He used the video for his personal needs and the media, both the so called "Fake News" and Fox News, used it for their personal needs. The only need of mine is how it makes us Villagers look to the world and the effect is has on the value of my house.

I was at the memorial service at 2 pm everyone was respectful no anti trump signs , there were people there who I know are Republicans . We all knelt or tried to for the over 8 minutes it took George to die , the service was over at 2:30! I was one of last to leave the bandstand because of catching up with an old friend when I got to Barnes and Noble parking lot to get in my car the golf cart parade was still forming at 3pm It’s been said and I’ve overheard the last couple of weeks that this was a spillover from out memorial , nothing could be father from the truth

It would not surprise me if this was the last golf cart parade, or even parade, allowed within the confines of TV. We have a large group of black residents who live very quietly and keep to themselves. These are not people from the lower level of the income scale, they are professionals who just want what we all want, to live in a safe and beautiful place. I don't think they should be subjected to hearing someone scream racial slurs.

But then, I'm a pollyanna. I believe we all have the right to be treated in a decent manner no matter what color is our skin. I was lucky to have parents who were color blind and we brought our children up the same way. If the person screaming White Power was blind he would have no idea of black or white! It is learned behavior and has no place in our world.

That horrible woman instigated the unfortunate white power response which I almost missed watching the entire video. President Trump's team pulled it down three hours after it was posted, as soon as they realized the man's response to being relentlessly taunted and verbally assaulted by the vilest profanity imaginable coming from the piehole in the ugly mug of that disgusting obese old bat standing in front of his cart, blocking his passage. Honestly, I would have been strongly tempted to run her over or shoot her. I appreciate his forbearance.

She went on to yell the F word at every single cart as it went by throughout the length of the video. She is beyond disgusting. I hope she moves out of TV as she stated she hates it here on the video. That would make TV even better.

Of course the MSM picked up on one man's response when he literally could take no more. It reminded me of a cruel person poking a dog with a stick until it snarls back at its taunter. Even a calm and cool person can only take so much.

Kneel for George, really. How about kneeling for the police officers killed every day. How about kneeling for the military who come back with no legs and arms. How about kneeling for all women being abused, something like George holding a gun to a pregnant woman’s stomach. I do not condone anyone being killed but let’s be real. “George” was a felon, a convicted felon. Should he have died in the hands of a police officer, no. Should we make him a hero and talk about his legacy, what legacy. If anyone wants their cause to be taken seriously I suggest stop making “George” the second Jesus.

She moved here from Connecticut where I guess it's ok to walk up to peaceful cart rallies and yell FU in people's faces.

I just spoke with my neighbor, they had planned to leave Wednesday (July 1st) on the Autotrain and visit her sister in NY for a week. She just told me they had to cancel the trip because Cuomo told the people of NY, no visitors. I was surprised they were going when they told me a couple of weeks ago.

Hello, GL,

You have been dysinformed.

Please allow me to enlighten you on the fact that the entire video is out there in the media. Uncut.

OK? Ready? Here we go:

1. Go to npr.org
2. There you will see the article about the tweet.
3. Click on the article title.
4. Scroll waaaaaaay down and there you will find a link to the uncut version. It is the tweet but you do not have to be a tweeter to see it.
5. Don’t miss the shout from the guy in the cart at the beginning.

At the bottom of the video, it says the tweet has had 9.1M views. :22yikes: — And that number refers to the tweet, the whole tweet, and nothing but the tweet.

I assume from your post history that you do not like NPR, and no doubt consider it your nemesis — one of them anyway. But, c’mon, branch out. It’s all there on NPR. Both sides. Uncut.

You’re welcome,
Boomer

The old lady was interviewed at the cart parade. Her behavior can't be excused because some think she's crazy. She says it's very hard for her to live in TV.
She moved here from Connecticut where I guess it's ok to walk up to peaceful cart rallies and yell FU in people's faces.

Twitter (https://twitter.com/i/status/1277008254799929344)

My guess is that her problems tend to follow her wherever she goes and that she is not a happy person anywhere. I, myself, could be very happy spending my days swimming, golfing, working out, shopping, listening to live entertainment, hanging out with friends....

I'm not sure what she finds so disagreeable about living in TV but no one is forcing her to live there.

The video was out last week in its entirety on the "other" Villages online news. I watched it then and was embarrassed to see adults on both sides of politics displaying such childish, abhorrent behavior.
Then the President of the U.S. reposted it on his preferred communication form to bring it to the attention of the whole country. It took 3 hours for it to be taken down --while he was on the golf course.
Meanwhile it destroyed the reputation of The Villages and all who live here.
How long is this nonsense of tearing each other down going to continue!

Typical racist, hateful, one sided news desperately looking for something to belittle us because of who we support. A group had a large “White Trash” banner along side a banner for the opponent on Bailey Trail, across from Lake Miona maybe a month ago. Many Villagers saw this. I WANT THIS ON THE NATIONAL NEWS! This is a racial slur! “White Supremacist” is also a racial slur used by the same people to demean white people for there own “power grab”.

Both sides. Uncut.

You’re welcome,
Boomer

I'm aware the video can be seen in it's entirety on the internet. But virtually every media story on this mentions the "white Power" aspect, not the FUs and Nazis yelled at each cart.

Here's the video clip CNN ran, just the white power, none of the FUs

Trump 'white power' retweet: President thanks 'great people' shown in Twitter video - CNNPolitics (https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/28/politics/trump-tweet-supporters-man-chants-white-power/index.html)

Bing search

Trump retweets white power from supporter

84,300,000 results, now check how many of those stories include mention or video of the obscenity hurling protesters at the parade

Jake Tapper interviewed 3 different people on the video, Scott, Azar and somebody else. He only talked about the white power part, not the FUs

The NPR article you cite has no mention of the obscenties being yelled out by the protesters:

A video shared by President Trump on Twitter Sunday includes a man who appears to be a Trump supporter saying "white power" in response to protesters. In the video, apparently taken at The Villages, a retirement community in Florida, people wearing Trump shirts and with Trump signs on their golf carts drive by protesters yelling insults at them and about the president.
In one exchange — eight seconds into the two-minute video — a white man holding a sign that says "Make America Sane Again," a reference to Trump's campaign slogan, yells: "Where's your white hood?" In response, a white man driving a golf cart with signs reading "Trump 2020" and "America First" yells back "

Yeah that's fair and balanced, it was only insults, not FU and Fing Nazis

your welcome

Nah. People aren't stupid. Anyone watching the uncut video, which is what Trump posted, could see that there was stupidity on both sides but that the main instigator was that woman. The media is the one who routinely posts little snippets of videos out of context just to get a rise out of people - so if you are unhappy with their "editing" you should direct your complaints to the ones doing the actual editing.

I'm not going to let the media bully me away from what really seems to be a nice community and a good group of people.

It was also terrible what the rest were saying in that video. I can only imagine what the next one in a couple of months is going to sound like.

Maybe it's just me, but the image that sticks in my mind is of Biden walking out on that cemetery on Memorial Day, all dressed in black with a black mask over his face and black sun glasses on - straight outta of the Godfather. And the next thing you know all hell is breaking loose.

Now we've got the media associating Trump's image with so called "White Supremacists". If the media has to destroy the reputation of an entire community to make their point, so be it.

The whole thing is very inflammatory and actually quite scary.

The media is a complete joke. They don't report stories, they push agendas.
Glad to hear the real truth. I thought there was more to the story, but as usual the media only reports one side. Use to hear black power all the time and that was perfectly acceptable. I saw Mexican flags with Mexican pride written on them in my home town in California and they are sold on Walmart site. Can you imagine the outrage if we had white pride flags. But what is new.

I wondered what kind of response the video and the President's tweet would get in TV.
The whole thing was a mess on both sides but the biggest loser will be the reputation of TV . I understand people can have events to support their side but the frequent Trump rallies and signs on their carts are there not only to support the President but to provoke anger on the other side. I think in these very emotional times it would be best if every one backed off on events that will raise tensions. I have been in the Villages for many years and the underlying political atmosphere is not a healthy one. There are many good people in the villages who are being dragged down by events such as this. The Villages reputation has been seriously hurt, how about calming down everybody

I guess the question is, will it be o.k. for U.S. citizens to go to campaign rallies? What if Trump or Biden comes to speak at TV? Will we be harassed for going to hear them speak?

When it comes time to vote, will we feel safe doing so? Is it o.k. to have a political bumper sticker on your car or will an angry mob descend on you and scare you away from the polling place.

We need to control ourselves plain and simple. There was nothing wrong with the Trump golf cart parade. There were no offensive banners, no one was shouting ugly things UNTIL the so called "protesters" got in their faces and turned things nasty. This golf cart parade would never have made it into the news at all if that one woman had just stayed home that day.

Can you image wearing a T-Shirt that said, Veterans while riding in your own golf cart, and having this woman jump out in front of you and shouting nasty things right in your face!!

https://www.witsnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/nasty-woman-the-villages-trump-1200x630-1.jpg

The man in your photo doesn’t appear to be the man who yelled “white power”. If you watch the video, the nasty women doesn’t seem to be around when that happens.

It doesn’t mean the man yelling “white power” wasn’t harassed - it looks like all the trump supporters were being screamed at as they drove by.

There would be NO STORY if not for the tweet. Why do you ignore that ? I am sure there were bad behaviors on both side, and believe me, as the pot gets stirred every single day it will get worse.

Sorry to say but you are spot on. The person shouting what people consider “white supremacy remarks” doesn’t help the image of The Villages. These parades should require a permit and signs should be required to be civil IMHO. Public streets are just that public streets but the golf carts that get there by multi-modal paths are private and belong to residents of The Villages. We “the residents” pay for them and pay to maintain them. Personally I’m “tired” of all the nonsense. People our age should act like adults and be civil toward each other. Sorry for the rant...

Since the Morse Family (developer) contribute a lot to the Republican campaign election, I think they handle it the same as always, No Dems allowed.

I have to admit when I was 6 years old I shook Adlai Stevenson hand when he was running against Eisenhower. It was in Winter Haven and we had gone to Cypress Garden to see the show (now Legoland). My dad heard on the news that his bus was stopping downtown, and our motel was across the street. So we walked over and watched his bus come in. I actually can remember the event, he got off and there was maybe 4 people waiting, so he shook all our hands and got back on the bus and left.

My phone started chirping last night and hasn’t stopped since. Had to silence the dam thing. Why does the media need to constantly attack the Villages image? These attacks began many years ago, not just recently during these hyper divisive times.

They are not attacking The Villages, only showing what someone said. Unfortunately it poorly reflects on all of us.

Actually it was started by an in your face foul mouthed, bully-woman that had no respect for anybody else's rights. Who amazingly had a camera ready...imagine that!

Who have you ever met anybody in TV that behaves like that?

Everyone, at some time, should accept FACTS.

This thread is about "TV in the national news".

The ONLY...ONLY...reason this is in the national news is because the leader of the free world sent it around the world under his name.

The woman you speak of could be foul mouthed or a bully, but she did not cause the nationalnews to care.

You certainly have the right to deflect all you want, but the truth and facts do not support your deflection.

There are no cart rallies in Connecticut, peaceful or otherwise. But no, the phrase you refer to won't ruffle most peoples' feathers there. We kinda stopped with the pinky-lifting pseudo-elitist nonsense by the time we reached high school and realized our great-grandmothers were fuddy-duddies.

Actually, my suggestion to TVBOUND would be to continue to read TOTV, and you will get a sampling of what citizens of this community are all about.

I have been here for 20 years now and I would recommend it. However, as so many post on here.....lots folks who live here believe one way only.

After 20 years here for me and 13 years on TOTV, I am repulsed by the activities on social media, and recently on our streets.

Still, I find these are extremes in behavior. I have found ways to navigate the hate, but it is an issue that grows here and needs consideration.

One woman? No one forced the guy in the cart to say what he did. And why would he choose to say those words?

She/they were using abusive and profane language towards him, comparing him to Hitler, calling him a racist, etc all because he was driving his decorated golf cart in a Trump parade.

It was not just this one particular protester that was being offensive, there were others but that particular protester was off the rails bad. That guy lost his cool and said what he did. I'm not defending his words even a little bit. What he said was wrong and unacceptable. But what that woman and those other protesters were saying to those golf cart riders was also wrong, unacceptable and very inflammatory.

Imagine if I came up to you and called you every 4 letter word in the book, accused you of being a racist, videotaped your reaction to my offensive words and then only posted your reaction to my words (cutting what I said to you completely out) - "Look at how rude the people in TV are to newcomers!" - that would not be very fair would it?

To all those who have visited this forum and posted doubts about The Villages as a result of all this, take note of the last two posts prior to this. It has become the norm.

I, personally, do not understand hate. It has such a terrible effect on folks. I can disagree totally on issue driven items, but never hate. I am repulsed by moral transgressions, but forgiving in the end recognizing contrition. I absolutely am repulsed by lying.

But even on the last two I mention, I cannot reach the venom that is becoming the norm on this forum

I grew up in the DC area and I have always respected the President of the United States. I may not have always voted for them, I may not always agree with their views but I would never be overtly disrespectful of them or any candidate running for office.

But, I must admit, I would be happy to live in TV at this point even (especially!) if that means that Dem candidates will be staying away. You can't be everything to everybody.

Are you a Redskin fan? What part of the Gulf coast are you coming from? I'm a Ravens fan, I was at their first game n 1996 at Memorial Stadium, but grew up in St. Petersburg, Florida. (St. Pete High School '68).

I've been a longtime Redskins fans but my husband and kids have their own teams. Long story short, we don't watch too many Skin's games these days but I will always have a soft spot for them. We've never gotten into the Ravens but we are definitely a family of Nationals baseball fans. We're in NW Florida close to Navarre Beach/Gulf Breeze. We've driven by St Petersburg before on our way to Anna Maria Island which is one of my favorite places to be in Florida so far. I like that TV is only a couple of hours away from Anna Maria island - I can see us taking advantage of the proximity on a regular basis.

In the meantime, we're enjoying the beautiful beaches in our neck of the woods and I am grateful to be living in Florida now in spite of this stupid virus (Covid-19 Please Go Away!).

I know what you mean, I might not watch much NFL this year, depends on how this kneeling thing goes, plus the skins haven't exactly been a powerhouse. Also, I use to live in Pensacola, my best friend from the Army and working in Pensacola lives in Navarre, his name is Dean Trosper and he lives on Emma Way, you wouldn't have known him would you? I know it's long shot, but who knows.

They made Jaws 2 at Navarre Beach in '78 and the crew stayed at the Holiday Inn Holidome on the beach and I watched some of filming and saw the sharks. The hotel was 7 stories high and got destroyed in a hurricane in 1995.

I feel the same way. When I lived in the DC area we often had the presidential motorcade come into nearby areas. Once I was at a restaurant and the Secret Service came in while my friend and I were just beginning to look at the menu. A waiter warned us that if we stayed there to eat we would be there for awhile because the president was coming. I had kids to pick up within the hour so I had to hurry up and get out of there. I was not a big fan of that particular president but meeting him would have been an honor all the same.

That said, a simple golf cart parade isn't going to be enough to rattle my cage. I would never stand on the sidelines giving a Biden golf cart parade the stink eye. It bothers me to see so called "protesters" (either side) being so uncivil to others. That's the sort of stuff that I would like to see cracked down on.

It's an unfortunate situation and the timing couldn't be any worse. Antifa, BLM and white supremacist groups are all planning demonstrations Thursday thru Saturday. Some reports suggest that fireworks will be used to disguise gun fire and to desensitize people to explosions. I was told that Antifa plans to attack Gettysburg? I did not bother to research this information but what I was told is that a possible plan is to set fires to homes and shoot the occupants as they run out. This sounds horrible and hopefully it's not true. We've already seen how cunning crooks can be, calling in hundreds of 911 calls during protests so they can overwhelm the system and loot during the confusion. It's possible in some areas that the police will not be coming to those under attack.

In short, we could have problems in our neighborhood due to that video making headlines.

We have a lot of ex-military and ex-police personnel living here and a lot of gun owners. Hopefully nothing happens but I feel most here are prepared for the worst.

Anybody else get some surprising questions from friends and family that know nothing of TV?

I have received several calls and texts from my friends up north asking how I can live amidst such racism and intolerance. I was not raised that way. I simply say that I try not to get involved in political discussions with anyone. My circle of friends here in TV are likeminded and avoid rallies like the one that put us in such a bad light. Still, it is embarrassing that my community is center stage as being one of the most racist in Florida.

Yes, it was too bad that they focused on the one knucklehead who shouted "white power" and failed to show the lunatic from Connecticut who stepped in front of the cart parade screaming "F" Trump over and over. Instead of reporting on the record number of carts in the parade (640), or the 23 radical, obnoxious and profane "protesters", the fake news media chose to focus on the comments of one guy. To the "lady" (not) from Connecticut who seems to be so disgusted with the number of Republicans and Trump supporters in TV, one message: GO HOME!

I too have heard from friends and relatives in five continents. I was stunned by the instant notoriety. We all know that most of our friends and neighbors are lovely people, but what trump did, intentionally I am sure, was to use a clip of one ignorant racist person to shout out to his base. Now that is how we have been presented to the world. I felt marginally better when people from elsewhere had the impression that this was a huge sex orgy plagued by disease. Both reputations are undeserved. I have seen people claim fake news here. Really? Clearly trump tweeted it, and clearly the short video clip showed exactly what happened. Trump seems to hope that he can incite those that are easily manipulated to start riots or a war when his looses the election. Crazy right? In the meantime we all are tarred by the same brush on a global scale by one ignorant racist four word rant by an old man in a golf cart That’s what I heard from friends around the world, old man in a golf cart. That’s problematic right there, albeit accurate. Trump used that guy for his own purpose, and he didn’t think twice about throwing his big donors here in the villages under the bus. Instead of attracting people from the Midwest and northeast, we will attract only the worst of what our country has to offer so they can retire with like minded individuals. I do feel embarrassed by this, but I know that I have many wonderful friends here who don’t deserve our new global reputation. It only took too ignorant, racist men to accomplish this, but it will take thousands to put it right.

I think everyone who disagrees, should speak out against the statements and language we saw on the video. I heard a statistic that The Villages is reported to be 98% white, that leaves more than 2,000 of our neighbors who may be hurt, wondering what kind of community they live in and how people really feel toward them.

I would like my neighbors whoever they are to feel welcome and wanted here. We should be speaking out against racism and not condoning it from any source. Everyone should be welcome to live, work and play anywhere they want without being threatened by loud mouthed bigots.

I wish the Morse family would take the opportunity to condemn the racism displayed on the video. Their silence will speak for them, unless they say where they stand. The video in now the latest commercial people have seen about living in The Villages.

A mistake? His first mistake was trolling Twitter. What other president in this country has used a platform that he believed would keep the country informed or to connect with the American people, but instead uses for name-calling, brainwashing, and other means to divide the country even more? He must have the words “fake news” as a shortcut on his computer. What other President would post something that he didnt’t completely review
first? He didn’t take it down immediately, and when he did remove it, it was as a result of the people around him with brains recommending that he do so. Yesterday I got a call from a friend in N.C. And this morning from Oahu, Hi.
WHAT US GOING ON THE VILLAGES?
they ask, after seeing the shameful performances put on international display during a Trump supporters golf cart parade.
I was flabbergasted to see a woman who said she was from Conn. yelling obscenities at Trump supporters as they drive by. She was one of many.

Being from the north east and having been schooled in the bastions of liberal, democratic demagoguery I was not surprised to see passion expressed with regard to POLITICAL CHOISE but
I was ashamed for that woman from Conn.and equally ashamed of all those who participated by yelling foul language and blocking the roadway with signs.
This woman also during a broadcast interview expresses her utter distaste for the VILLAGES and says she is grateful for the few like minded friends she has here. In retrospect and in consideration of her’s and other like minded individuals I can only conclude that these people were run out of the northeastern states they came from. Is it possible they can receive the same treatment here? As a former NEW YORK STATE resident I hold onto many friends and happy memories. However there seems to be a common thread. I wish that people who bring with them disgusting behaviors and intolerance would just get out! Go back where you came from. Go vote for Bernie or who ever you like but please Yankee go home.

You are absolutely correct. As usual, fake news only highlights what they want you to see. Amazing how nothing is shown when that low class, senior citizen lib, from Connecticut, was cursing, using every profanity known to man, at every golf cart occupant. Typical how they Continually shout over everyone so that they are the only ones being heard. Right out of the lib playbook.

Yes my niece and nephew both posted a link to the You Tube video on my Facebook timeline. I immediately deleted it, as I forbid use of my Facebook for politics--period. While the guy screaming White Power was immature, he was being screamed at by White Trash sign guy and a lady who I am now calling "Auntie F". Her foul mouth I'm sure, made her kids and grandkids proud (not)---unless of course they talk the same. Maybe it's in the genes. That kind of crap needs to disappear from here. I hope the agitators have been identified and are avoided by the other residents. Ron

Did it occur to you that a significant number of people so supportive of this president that they must wave flag, adorn their carts and parade through the squares share the ideology of the white power speaker?

I was paired up with a golfer yesterday with about half a dozen Trump 2020 stickers including “Make Liberals Cry“. He also had a NASCAR 11 sticker (Hamlin). To make conversation, I commented on Sunday’s race. He answered “The Bubba liberals have ruined the sport”.

Such is the community in which we live.

Television news is despicable. I saw what CNN made of this, and it is clearly milking the story to cause harm. It’s like that false story that still goes around that The Villages is a hotbed of STDs because everyone runs around having sex. (Yeah, right!)

On the news, it was easy to hear a protestor at the golf cart rally calling the man in the cart a racist—simply for supporting the President! And the man replied “White power” as an ironic joke. That was clear from the way he said it. But wow, a chance to harm the opposition! Can’t let that one go, even if it is false.

Most of what the President calls “fake news” is not fake news, but this actually is.

I wouldn’t want to be the guy caught on the video doing the shouting.

Which is why the media chooses what is and is not news, and I don't anymore. They likely didn't show the video of the woman at the rally screaming "F**k Trump" at every cart going by.

I’m too busy swimming, biking, walking, hiking, etc. I love living here. I love watching the sunsets and I love my neighbors. And while I’m certainly aware of The Villages being predominantly Caucasian, one of my best friends who lives here is African American and he loves it for similar reasons; he loves to golf. So, I was not aware of this video and tweet and I do not feel it reflects on the people who live here because everyone I know is too busy golfing and checking on their neighbors or at the pool. The video does not represent the thousands that live here any more than those tearing down statues or looting represent all the amazing and wonderful citizens of the United States. Media is a business. If there isn’t drama happening somewhere they are out of a job. Are there people passionate about their political party living here? Absolutely and there are even clubs for that. My friends are too busy enjoying life and enjoying all the amenities here. That’s what I told my family and friends.

Why on earth did you choose that man of all people to golf with? 125,000 residents in TV and you pick the guy with the "Make Liberals Cry" bumper sticker to hang out with? It's like smashing your finger with a hammer and then complaining that it hurts.

No, I do not think that being a Trump supporter automatically defines you as a racist at all any more than being a liberal automatically means that you are not racist. The media likes to paint with broad brushes though and that is why they chose to depict the incident in an otherwise peaceful golf cart parade the way that they did which is a shame. I did get calls from friends who wanted to warn me about moving to the villages. I had almost bought back in Feb to snowbird it from New England, but pulled out because of the financial crisis surrounding Covid. I’m still on the fence - there are pros and cons with the villages. Lately I’ve been thinking I could do better so am less inclined to make the move now than I was at the beginning of the year. Certainly this latest event doesn’t help.

John, if you research Democrats coming to campaign in TV, you will find that they are not allowed to do so. Biden came a couple of years ago and his bus was not allowed to stay, his bus drove into SS and he was asked to move on and out of TV. I believe I am right in saying that Obama was not allowed to campaign in TV. If you wanted to hear or see them you had to leave TV. You can search Biden and Obama campaigning in TV to read the real story. If Biden should win in 2020 it will be interesting to see how TV handles it.

Sounds like fake news to me. Maybe they knew they would not be welcomed due to the majority being conservative and told the media that they weren't allowed to campaign here? I've not noticed any Leftist golf cart parades banned.

Since I am a social liberal and fiscal conservative ... I'm stuck between the two ideologies. Oh ... wait ... I almost forgot that neither party is fiscally responsible anymore ... now I'm really stuck.

Personally, I do not see the big deal. A few folks got over heated and made some regrettable remarks, period. It happens every day, somewhere. I did not really wish to move here from the wooded area I had made my home after retirement, but made the choice so that my spouse could be happy. I do not regret my decision and thoroughly enjoy my retirement here. What others think about this place has absolutely NO bearing on my feelings about The Villages. Heated responses related to politics is entertaining. I have a neighbor that is usually quite pleasant, until someone mentions our president. Then she becomes Mr(s) Hyde and starts foaming at the mouth, spittle flying and considerably vulgar with her language. It is almost as if she was demon possessed. Other than that, she is exceedingly pleasant and a very good neighbor.
The point is that everyone has their own opinion and should not be "classed" when it comes to political leanings. I do not understand the opposition's reasoning against this president and just write it off to misplaced priorities. Apparently, appearances and personality is more important than accomplishments. But, I digress.
TV is not blemished by the publicity of one or two heated and out of control folks. If you want to see attempts to diminish the success of this outstanding place, simply subscribe to that rag that we cannot mention on here. Daily disparaging reports linked to individuals with their mug shot posted on the front page, and the insinuation that these miscreants are TV residents. DUI arrests, Domestic abuse arrests, indecent acts, etc. While one TV newspaper is positive and inspiring, we have an outsider rag set with the intention of destroying the successful reputation of The Villages. In my opinion, there are always those that are jealous of folks like us that are happy residents here.
If someone was to ask me about the incident (they haven't yet) I would simply respond that we have folks from all over the country that RENT or purchase here. I add that I am quite happy here and completely understand if they feel too intimidated by some minor incident to visit us. I tell them that if not for the media's biased reporting, I wouldn't even have known the incident occurred.
Some folks insist on scratching at an itch until it bleeds. Those folks demonstrated that we have folks from all walks of life living here. We are not Stepford.

They were apparently on their way to "peacefully protest" outside of the Mayor's private residence which was located within that private gated neighborhood. The protesters were ticked off that the mayor had released the names/addresses of the citizens who were calling for the disbanding/defunding of the local police department. What could possibly go wrong?

Your message here is wonderful. The Villages is in many ways a wonderful place to live. But, there is here as well as everywhere a segment of residents who are still living in the dark ages of intolerance. When these people start acting out their negativity they bring shame and destruction to us all. When good people are attacked, physically or verbally, they often fight back automatically with physical or verbal weapons designed to hurt their attacker, which may include words or actions they would otherwise never resort to.
This hate has GOT TO STOP! The division has got to stop! The innocent get hurt along with everyone else. Preaching hate is NOT the way to achieve peace and understanding.
Wise words from one of my favorite movies when I was a child come to me know, "If you can't say something nice, then don't say ANYTHING at all!

It seems no one wants to own up to the fact that the president started this thing and knew who was going to like this among his followers, and like usual denies the whole thing .

The foul mouthed group of "political" protesters started it. The video proves it. I also have not heard anyone say it was a spill over from any memorial. Two separate events.

While the recent rise of Covid cases has pushed back our planned next trip to The Villages, with the hope of finding the home we want to purchase, like many other people across the country we are concerned about a lot of things that are going on these days.

You should be. The Friendliest Hometown that I knew 11 years ago no longer exists. There is not enough infrastructure to support the growth. The surrounding communities do not have an adequate employment base to pull from to support the businesses. As all across America, hatred and divide exists here. All you have to do is read between the lines in these blogs and Next Door Neighbor. These two people should be ashamed of themselves. The woman does not represent residents of The Villages. She is trash. The man, he got caught up in the passion of the moment and his disgusting true feelings came out. And believe me, there are many just like him living here, they just keep their feelings to themselves, especially now, as everyone is trying to be politically correct when it comes to racial divide. I live here because I have a network of friends that I associate with that was established long ago. We do things together to keep both mentally and physically active. We support each other. TheVillages is not important to me, the friends are. I have not been to a square in 5 years. People fight over saving seats and they are open to anyone and everyone. The supply of golf courses can not support the demand. Not good. I wish I could paint a better picture for you. The newer residents are still in the honeymoon stage. The older residents know what is was like and what it is now.

There is so much I want to say. First, it started out as a PEACEFUL BLM service. And than the golf carts came and madness ensued.

How do I know? I was the one that pulled Sharon out from the front of the golf cart AND I broke up 2 other arguments, 1 involved 2 men getting ready to punch each other.

We, The Democrats, are not proud of what happened, but were horrified when the "comment" was made. That was the beginning of the true anger and frustration.

I was interviewed by Piers Morgan and Good Morning Britain about it yesterday. Why? Cause I was the calm one. I am not innocent, yes, I yelled and screamed, but I waved and smiled at people who did the same to me. Bottom line if that stupid racist comment wasn't said, we wouldn't be talking about it now.

In the end, from the Dem Party, it won't happen again. We are embarrassed. I hope that is true on the Republican side. They have done the same exact thing to us during one of our golf cart parades and blocked us from getting to Webster's office. So neither side is innocent. Let's take this to the polls and fight it out there. Not with each other.

Peace.

Hundreds of golf carts descend on square as Democrats spread message in The Villages
October 1, 2018

What makes you think the guy shouting "White Power" is a Trump supporter? I question both him and the person taking the video. I know if I was taking a video and some guy drove by and shouted "White Power" that video would never be posted on the internet, period!
