Judging only from the post and picture (did not go to the story), seems like a sheriff that cares about the safety and security of the citizens under his protection. The picture shows me an officer and gentleman with a great smile. Someone I would probably like if I ever met him.
As to the .54 on the hip, unless you're pretty big, you might walk a little lopsided. Oh, and let me know if you're going to shoot. I want to put my fingers in my ears cause them things go BANG real loud.
Stay safe. Stay well. Peace!

"Daniels also is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, or FDLE, after his former employer, the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, announced last year that he'd had an affair with a co-worker when he was running its jails.
Daniels, who is married, was accused of later having the woman falsely arrested."
Having affair with a co-woker while being married is one thing, but then having the girlfriend falsely arrested?
That's just COLD. LOL

Yep, smart sheriffs. The cowards only riot and loot in areas where people run for cover and give them full reign. None of them have the guts to stand up when confronted. Its still amazing to me when I see violent riots and when one of them gets hurt, everyone is screaming, “call 911”. Morons.

The home invasion in The Villages when the Village of LaBelle was new, never heard all the facts or any conclusion, or even if the perpetrators were caught. It was August 2016 in Harlow Villas, a 64 year old woman answered the door, two fellas in dress clothes and ties and one holding a clipboard rushed in. They took her dog to the garage and killed it and stole some things, one being a gun which they knew exactly where the gun was kept. This made me think they had been there before and maybe were workers on a job. Which is why it's always good to be careful about the contractors you hire. There is still a ten page thread on this website, no news clippings anymore. I was wondering it was ever resolved.
I looked back at the thread, and I made a comment that the newly installed cameras at LaBelle gate would be useful in catching them, and someone posted that you can get into LaBelle without going through the gate, but they never said how. I have golfing friend that lives in LaBelle and from I see, the gate is the only way to get a car into LaBelle, unless you drive across a golf course.
https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/villages-florida-general-discussion-73/awful-home-invasion-205218/
Now, that I look up this story, LaBelle has had it's share of problems. In July of 2018 it was where the LaBelle CC bandit was holdup at his girlfriend's parents home, and the Sumter Deputies used a tank to bust open the window and then perpetrator took off in a car through the closed garage door, and eventually was caught on Micro-Racetrack Rd. This just goes to show, violent crime can happen anywhere.

A yearlong investigation of Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels may be drawing to a close.
First Coast News has learned from multiple law enforcement sources that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement has completed its initial report into misconduct allegations against Clay's top cop. The report is now in the possession of the 4th District State Attorney’s Office, which must review and make recommendations, an FDLE spokesperson confirmed.

How about a more realistic example to demonstrate the intent of the deputizing?
Half a dozen protestors are carrying torches up your drive way....are banging on the garage door and front door for you to open up or they are gonna burn your house down.
That is what is being discussed. Not shooting wildly at nothing for no reason...by incompetent aging residents.
When we, competent, trained, licensed gun owners, are discussing taking up arms it is for life threatening situations....not some derogatory anecdotal fluff.

Sounds good but deputizing so-called lawful gun owners is pretty scary. What do some lawful citizens consider breaking the law or committing a crime. I’ve owned guns for 60 yrs. & what some gun owners think breaking the law is & being able to protect property, then shooting someone, I’m almost sure some of these unstable gun owners would start another protest! But then again it might be a good idea, even some nut case would think twice!

I guess the Rev. Jeremiah Wright would call that the "chickens coming home to roost". My heart breaks for her. using that quotation, in a political context Wright was not the man who made that statement famous, it was Malcom x , when asked about how he felt about Kennedy death he made the statement about chickens coming home to roost everyone was mad about it but Malcom though bluntly spoke the truth we had just conspired in the killing of the elected president of South Vietnam , I was in Saigon at the time , the 2 acts were not connected but in gone by times it was never good to kill a king because his people would try to kill your king , but maybe it’s just bad luck also to kill a king ( put president if you like)

There are already a couple thousand well-trained and legal gun owners who belong to the Villages Straight Shooters Club ( Home (https://www.vssclub.org/) ) and lots of people, including me, who train regularly at Shooters World. ( Indoor Shooting Range & Gun Store | Shooters World The Villages (https://www.shootersworld.com/locations/the-villages/) )
Many are retired military or law enforcement.
Bottom line: we have many living here who are qualified, and willing to serve if so asked and deputized.

There are a bunch of people at your home pounding on the garage and front door of your house.....screaming for you to let them in or they will burn your house down.
What are YOU going to do about it?
I put a social worker on my speed dial for situations such as this.

Love Deputy Daniels. Every law enforcement officer should do the same! As far as his personal life accusations, who knows the real story--and who doesn't have a story to tell!!! He is doing his job and one thing has nothing to do with the other. That chapter in his life is over and he is doing good things now.

I totally agree with this Sheriff. These punks need to know that there are AMERICANS out there willing to protect their property and use force if needed. It's the only thing that is going to stop them.

OP, I like the idea. There is so much lawlessness recently a strong and measured response is required. Sorry, criminals, you’re not taking over.

We have seen just what happens when" lawful gun owners "decide that they don't like the black man out for a jog, so they kill him. We had over one mass shooting per day in 2019, do we want more??
Total and complete insolent anti gun catharsis.
Sign of the times media extrapolation presentation of bias without basis!!!

Stay safe. Stay well. Peace!
Bravo! Don't forget all those retired police officers that are LEOSA qualified!

Just what we need a bunch of gun owners setting around a bar that get called into action. What’s wrong with that.

I would feel real safe with all the knucleheads out there carry guns. Remember Georgia killing a jogger they thought was a looter.
How do you know he was a "jogger"? Because the media said so?

The Sheriff of Clay County, FL, said he will "deputize every lawful gun owner" in his county to confront lawlessness and violent protests if need be.
This is what needs to happen across the country.
Wish we had Sheriff's with that kind of concern for their people like you do here in Texas. Thanks

There is none. Ask my son who happens to be NYPD. However, he who wants to believe so will hear what they want to hear, thus my clever - Truth is in the ear of the beholder.

My post 62 bears repeating:
How about a more realistic example to demonstrate the intent of the deputizing?
Half a dozen protestors are carrying torches up your drive way....are banging on the garage door and front door for you to open up or they are gonna burn your house down.
That is what is being discussed. Not shooting wildly at nothing for no reason...by incompetent aging residents.
When we, competent, trained, licensed gun owners, are discussing taking up arms it is for life threatening situations....not some derogatory anecdotal fluff.
Well you made my point! What IF a bunch of protesters were banging on my garage door & threading to burn my house down & some lawful unstable gun owner really thinks he can shoot anybody just because he thinks his life is threatened & kills them all & you or me just happen to be standing on the sidewalk & get killed. Your right about this situation but I‘be been in a situation where I did catch someone in my house & my warning was pointing my laser light gun site on them, they saw the red dot & they never asked questions & they were gone & yes it would of been tough to pull the trigger even though I thought it would be easy, glad I didn’t. Yes you’re right only shoot in threatening situations. Now if you were me would you of shot first & then look to see if it was your wife or another family, it’s a big decision? live in Texas & we have gun laws that are a little different here. To put it short, here you better not break into anybody’s house, auto or believe it or threaten anybody at work & PROTECTING YOUR PROPERTY. Thieves beware when you come to Texas to break into a house to rob someone, I don’t disagree with you but different state have different gun laws. Listen to Orlando news at 11 that’s all you’ll here is all the killings, then Google Dallas/Ft. Worth News, you might here about 1 or 2 shootings! Good comment though, Billethkid!

I have thought about this during the recent violent protests and I am glad that I am allowed to learn to shoot and buy a gun if I feel the need.
I think everyone needs to have cameras installed and recording all around their homes right now and motion lights too.
I came to live here from a very low crime area and this is very much like it, but of course it could change with all the unusual things happening and the rebranding of everything and people looking to be mad and hurt someone.
It is always better to be safe than sorry. I believe that more than half of all Villagers have guns and almost all who have them, know how to use them. I am glad of that.

I would caution that "I am glad that I am allowed to learn to shoot and buy a gun if I feel the need" will not help, for example, if you're confronted with intruders, armed or not, neither will security cameras, lights, etc. The only thing one can realistically depend upon is having a defensive weapon (gun) at the time its needed. Relying on the police (too little time to avert most disasters) or an armed neighbor may prove perilous to your longevity. Of course, knowing which end to point and being somewhat accurate is always beneficial :icon_wink:

My mother was the victim of a home invasion years ago. Home alone in the Catskill mountains at night, the 2 perpetrators knew my father was in Europe for 3 weeks. They threw a picnic table through the door and windows to get in. Her large shepherd mix cowered behind her. She didn't have much cash. They took the car keys out of her purse and stole her car, later totaling it in another state. She was terrified and was never the same since.
I never liked guns. I had shot rifles but never a pistol until I came to TV. I joined the club, took the courses and part of the training was at the range, and got to try different handguns. I was aiming for center mass (chest) at the target but, turned out, my aim was a little off (high). Hey, it was my first time. The instructor pulled the target back, looked at it, (all head shots,) looked at my hubby and says "I would not **** her off if I was you." Anyway, I am now glad I have my Ruger Security 6, 38 special/357 in case of a home invasion. If a perp attacks me/threatens my life, I WILL stop them.
