At 7 a.m. today I went to get my wife her favorite donut at DD in Spanish Springs I approached the door and a worker was smoking nearby. No big deal as I thought she was taking her break. She walked in right behind me and turned the corner and put her partially smoked cigarette (to be fair it was doused outside) on the counter next to the register. She was unmasked and went right to the register and asked me what I'd like. I responded that I'd like her to please put on her mask and then wash her hands. She looked at me like how dare I ask her those questions. I asked to speak to the manager and she said it was her. I turned around and left. I will not be returning there anytime soon. I drove out to the DD on 441/27. They were all wearing a mask and will go there from now on.

Yes, I edited it, thanks!

It was still a huge turnoff. The lack of hand washing upon re-entering the workspace was the real gross part.

Guess she has no idea what is going on in the world. Wonder how often the owner comes in

...prior to this pandemic, I went into this DD to get a cup of coffee. The entire interior of this store was skeevey. That is the best word I can use to describe the utter filth of this place. Walked out and will NEVER go back!!!

At the 441/27 store is the exact opposite, I'm pleased to report.

As far as the owner goes, I did ask for the phone number to corporate but she told me she didn't have it! A store manager not having the phone number to corporate was a lie. Who would she call in order to report any issue at all to them.

I have no link or article but still, I have several FACTS. Managers from time to time are ripping the place off. Saw something in the paper last week and the Ownership doesn't give a hoot. Ask them for a receipt after they give you your change. They tremble cause you caught them. They do not support their managers or keep an eyeball on the store at all.

How Spanish Springs or 441 are still open is amazing to me. The places are so dirty it isn't funny. For me to walk out takes a lot and I've walked out of both in the last week. I'm done with them. Shredded my DD Card. Brought a tear to my eye but dirty on top of waiting at the drive-up so long its time to shave again, screw 'em. The best alternative would be Wawa on 441 for us or just make the coffee at home and call it a day.

Doughnuts from grocery bakery and home brewed coffee is best way to go.

Nobody wants to go back to work and get exposed to Covid when they can get very generous unemployment benefits that pay more than their hourly wage. It's a very delicate balance between taking care of the people that really need help versus giving incentive to competent folks to not work.

Well that may be true but where are the funds going to come from to give these "poorly paid job holders" a living wage? Would you be willing to let the government collect more tax from you? I'm just wondering.

Hard to find any descent help when the government gives unemployed $600. per week more than they were making while working. My little town in VA has help wanted signs everywhere. No takers.

The Dunkin franchise owner in the Villages is awful. He doesn't care so why should the employees. Since Wawa opened closer to my house I've rarely gone to Dunkin and I love Dunkin but I can not support this franchisee. You want to see how it's done, go to the Dunkin in Bellview it's night and day.

We used the Dunkin app to buy 6 donuts for pickup at 466 location. Got there and 4 of 6 (including glazed) were not available. Was offered a box of mixed their choice. We declined and asked for a refund. We were told that they can't issue refunds in the store. The manager came to the window not wearing a mask. We drove off and cancelled the charge with the credit card company. Never again.

That woman should not have been a manager. Maybe she was lying about that. She showed great irresponsibility and it makes me wonder if that was the manager. I would have walked out myself.

Since the owner is doing this to make money hard to believe he would allow this to go on.

So foolish

I left the store because of her not wearing a mask. I haven't seen any evidence that COVID-19 is passed through food, donuts are food right?

NO I'm not. Do you go outside of your home for anything at all?

Do you self quarantine after you get groceries, go to the doctor, go to the pool, golfing, pickle ball, mail boxes etc?

Bay Kid,

Employees aren't making $600 more than what they made when they were working.

Max benefit in Florida is $275 a week or 50% of salary whichever is less. Feds add $600 to that amount.

If someone made $1,000 they get $275 + 600 = $875,
If some made $500 a week they get $250 + $600 = $850.
That's nuts. And yes it's coming from our taxes. Thank goodness at least it's taxable.
But unemployment is not subject to social security or medicare so we lose on that side too.

My clients are having trouble getting people to come back to work who are on unemployment but it they don't come back when offered a job the employer can report them and benefits will stop (theoritically)

I can't believe they are allowed to operate in that manner - and the manager to have such an attitude?? UGH! I'm still up in Long Island (hope to get to our Fenney home in the Fall) and my local Dunkins all have very courteous employees who wear masks and gloves and give great service. I was expecting the same in The Villages. How is the Dunkin at Brownwood. I've been there in the past and thought it was okay.

One would think that the company itself would send around inspectors to see how their franchisees operate. What we see here will cause other franchises to lose business

I quit going to DD a long time ago. I wasn't happy when Starbucks was run off by the developer. The Starbucks regular customers where of a classier type and the morning conversation was geared toward fun topics. DD seems to attract a more aggressive, negative, politically driven customer with a one sided mentality, which seems to be their idea of fun. Not what I'm looking for in my retirement.

The unemployment money may be taxable, but the $600 from Uncle Sam is tax free.
The employee at DD isn't a manager, but is the person in charge of that shift. And probably the only employee on that shift.
I understand her dousing and saving the rest of the cigarette for her next break, as they make peanuts for an income, and smokes are really expensive. Did you ever look at the "tip cup" on the counter there? Usually empty or just a bit of change in it.

Never understood that tip cup. All they do is pour off a up of coffee and grab a donut. Not something that deserves a tip IMHO.

Starbucks has been very good- removed tables, boxes taped to stand in and wait, zig zags and arrows in the floor to follow, only one door in and another out, all in masks. When I watched the employee who had waited on me go into the back room and pick up her phone and talk, her gloves were still on during the process. Hasnt anyone seen workers at these places wearing gloves then handling money with the same gloves on?

There are some very conscientious and intelligent kids working at these jobs, but there are also those who don’t think. I’ve been told by restaurant owners, etc., that it’s hard to find good help because most of the kids don’t live around the villages, and they have to drive further. I was also told that with new affordable housing and apartments being built, they’ll be able to get more and better help. I can’t say that I agree with any of that.

Went to DD on 441 twice last month and both times the servers were wearing mask and gloves. Can't complain except they don't have the coffee cake muffins anymore. Only complaint my friend and I had asked for something to wipe the table and one of the servers came immediately and wiped it down. Blame the irresponsible people using the table before us who left the mess.

Just said oh, sorry and moved his mask to under his nose. I had posted earlier about the Dunkin in Spanish Springs. I did report that incident to Dunkin Corporate but no response. It is just so easy to protect your customers, I am baffled that managers/franchise owners don't monitor their staff better.

We have tried to get ice cream there three different times, first time, is they couldn't make what we want, 2nd, someone unplugged the freezers and they didn't have ice cream, third we stood there to get waited on for 15 mins while the two discussed other things. Never again. Now I know why they are never busy.
