Anyone familiar with Village Alarms? I want a security system installed with motion detectors. Other recommended companies?

They seem to have good reviews. But, I would buy one of the DIY systems. Very easy to install, set up, and monitor yourself.

Given how little crime there is here, is an alarm really necessary?

Thoroughbred Alarms, Ocala, (352) 861-9999. Have had for 6 years no issues. Have motion detectors, glass break detectors, every window and door is alarmed. Their monitoring is done in GA and they have been prompt when we screw up and set it off. Not sure we need one but if it makes my wife feel safer I'm all in. I went with Thoroughbred through a recommendation from the security company we had in PA....it's a Honeywell System

Very satisfied with Andre and Village Alarms; he installed both our alarm and camera system.

Installed Simply Safe system myself. Very easy to do. Your choice of monitoring or not. I believe monitoring isn’t always necessary. Once the siren blares the invader will turn tail quickly because he will assume the police are on their way.

Myself, my brother, and friend all have Village Alarms installed for two to three years now with no problems.

I would not get stuck with a monitoring contract. I would use simplisafe from an Amazon purchase. It has options for doing a monitor option monthly or not. You can also use blink cameras inside and outside that will automatically notify your cell phone if there’s movement. Most of these alarm systems are third-party contractors for ATT are similar. Which means that you will have a two-year plus monitoring contract.

If you are willing to, and up to, installing the sensors yourself (it really is not hard) I really recommend Simplisafe. You’ll save yourself a fair amount of money over time. You can have them professionally monitor or just set it up with an alarm. They also have it so you can set up monitors beyond normal security, such as a fire alarm (which may save you $$ on your homeowners), water sensors, cameras, etc.

It's only a matter of time before antiquated security systems and companies associated with them become extinct. Wireless cameras are simple to install, effective, cheap and do not require a 3rd party service. They send alerts to your phone upon motion or sound. Motion can be filtered by person detection only. Its only missing a whailing alarm but with a little ingenuity that could be setup. It does require internet while away from home. Most internet services offer a reduced price while away (ie: snowbirds).

ADT. Have had for 12 years no issues. Have motion detectors, glass break detectors, every window and door is alarmed.

We had ADT in the past and it was expensive. Now have SimpleSafe and love it. Can do it yourself and spend very little on monthly charge. Check it out.

For a single woman, yes! Especially when there is a creepy neighbor. Doesn’t matter what the crime rate is, it can happen anywhere. Peace of mind is priceless.

You can buy one like Lorex which overs a wide variety of features including night vision, motion detection, water proof, wireless and with a DVR recorder. Easy to install. They have a wide variety of price ranges depending on features and functions and the number of cameras. There are lots of video surveillance systems out there where you can monitor from anywhere with your smart phone and eliminate the monthly fee of an alarm company. I would visit best buy to see what's out there and have the sales people help you for openers. You can also check You Tube by asking for the top 10 video surveillance systems and read the reviews.

We like them. Installed when we were in a new neighborhood with empty lots all around us. Made us feel more secure. Still put it on at night or when traveling

I installed a Ring system in a couple of houses. Took me about 10 minutes per window and door. Very inexpensive and works well. I don’t have it monitored ($10/month) because as a fellow poster pointed out if that siren goes off I don’t think an intruder will hang around to get to know my neighbors.

Village Alarm is the best alarm system in the area. They are a local company. Andre Gordon is the owner and also lives in the area. I have had them for several years and am very satisified.

Used Village Alarm and were very happy with their work and the quality. They explained all the functions and assisted online when we had a minor issue. Would recommend.
Careful about wireless systems as they can be defeated.

Simply safe can’t be beat. Had them and their equity for 12 years. Best there is out there in security alarms.

I selected Village Alarm 3 years ago. They installed the system and set me up with monitoring. It was worth paying up front for the system as the monthly cost was about 1/2 of ADT's saving me about $250/year. I had a system failure last year and they were very responsive and repaired the main key pad within 24 hours. I highly recommend them.

I have used their system for over 5 years. No issues, works well and they provide great support. I would not hesitate to use them again if I purchased another new home.

Inherited a Villages Alarm system with new house and very happy with pricing and customer service. Added a very affordable camera system with Villages Alarm after purchase. Have some DIY systems up north and there is a difference. Do your homework and get the system that works for you. Your needs may be different than others posting here.

Simplisafe. Easy peasy. Low monthly monitoring fees. Does not depend upon your home phone line.
