I'm always disappointed to see someone lose a tournament rather than someone win it.

Commentators amazed at putts made on 18 for birdie by both players. I can remember one more amazing, tiger and ernie making eagle for tie in Hawaii.

Sudden death is such a bummer. The Open used have an
18 hole playoff. But that format doesn't fit well with tv coverage.

Every tourney has a full field of players who lost the tournament and only one person who won it.

The 18 hole playoff never made sense to me. You could miss a 2 foot putt on the 72nd hole and then you need to come back the next day and play another 18 holes? And, the fans who came to see a winner can't see it because they have to go back to work on Monday morning. I'm glad they changed the rule.

He lost the tournament when he got bogies on the last 3holes in regulation

Justin Thomas only made bogies on 16 and 18. He made a par on 17.

One of the most exciting and compelling golf broadcasts I have seen was the 18 hole playoff between Tiger and Rocco Mediate at the US Open in 2008. And it still needed a 19th hole sudden death to finish it! Of course, I was on vacation that week so I was able to see it. Would have been very unhappy if I had to work and missed it! That's the last time the US Open used the 18 hole playoff. They changed the rule in 2018 I believe. Now a 2-hole aggregate playoff.

I've never like the sudden death format, especially in majors. It's too easy for someone to get lucky on one hole and chip in or hole out from the fairway. (Larry Mize 1987 Masters)
I understand al of the problems with logistics and fans etc, but it seems to me that majors are too important for sudden death.
The four hole aggregate format is a good compromise. I'd rather see them play nine holes or at least six. A player should have a chance to come back from a bad break or lucky break for his opponent.

Justin Thomas only made bogies on 16 and 18. He made a par on 17.
Thomas had ample chances to win the tournament, up 2 with 3 to go, a putt on 18 and again on 18 in the play off, with virtually the same putt. He did not learn enough from his first misread and missed the second time. At the same time Morikawa sucked it up and didn't make the mistakes.

If Jordan Spieth can't win, I lose interest. I've lost a LOT of interest lately, ugh! Really like Americans to win, with the exception of a few. (Not a fan of Mr. America)

So, you know an American won the tournament being discussed, right? And I might as well ask, "Who is Mr. America?".

I do like the lack of crowds while watching on television. Not much noise and distraction. I think the players like that as well but of course they can't admit to it. I would rather not hear the bellowing of the crowds, but there is money to be made with the gate proceeds. Money always wins.
