Stung bitten three times by 3/4 inch flying insect this morning.

I was out with Beau at one of the Villages' area dog parks and got stung or bitten by a flying insect about 3/4 an inch long.

Had shorts on and noticed pain on my right thigh which was quite sharp and very focused. Pushed my hand under my shorts' right pant leg and the pain decreased but started right back up a few inches away.

I brushed at the sting above by knee and was rewarded by something stinging or biting by left index finger.

This felt like a bee sting but there was no stinger.

I did have a small hole at two points of my upper right leg.

They welted a bit but very little.

I did see a flying bug a yard or so away from me after I had pushed my hand down to find out was was causing this pain.

Pain has continued a few hours but is quite mild now.

Never had this kind of pain though from such a small flying insect. Looking like a small bee or hornet. But more like a bee?

My left index finger is a little red but that is all.

It is getting better though. Just wondering what bit or stung me?

Those murder hornets are two inches or so. I did look it up.

These stings or bites today hurt more than any other bites I have ever had.

Probably a 3/4" flying insect. :D Definitely wasn't a murder hornet.

Did you have on sandals? It could have been fire ants. They crawl up your leg or arm and yell bite and they all bite at once and they are NOT fun. Stingy welty bite lasts for more than a week. Perhaps you paused in the grass to let Beau do his business and it was close to a group of them? Sounds like fire ants to me. Remember, I am a retired Nursery School teacher and a card carrying grandmother. That is my guess.

Wasps nest in the ground and have a very fierce sting.

Yellow Jackets do as well and they are very fierce and painful.

My vote would be on the fire ant theory. Some seem to have more painful venom than others, but they all hurt and if you are bitten by several at one time can be extremely dangerous. Just Google them and check out the pictures.

Same thing happened to me a few days ago. I got stung twice. It was crazy painful and left a significant size hole. Minimal swelling and not very itchy. The description of the insect matches yours.

I was stung by a fire ant coming out of the Colony pool two nights ago. It must have fallen out of one of the trees. It landed right in the crease of my arm. The sting is similar to a bee sting. I used Benadryl gel, but it still stings 2 days later.

I've read where swabbing the sting with vinegar helps. Then benedryl cream as well. I've been stung by red ants here and up north by bees. With the bee stings I always have a "chills" reaction as well...so don't know if that meant I might be allergic to them. Luckily that was many years ago and none since.

I will talk to the dog park owners soon about these three stings. Only the two on my right thigh are red and sore to the touch. They do not itch.

Probably some kind of hornet sting.

Sounds like a Fire Ant to me.

Fire Ants can’t fly. She just said she saw a bug flying about a yard away. Didn’t say that was the actual cause. Fire Ants crawl up your leg and bite when the want to. Try to brush them off and they will bite again.

Once I arrived at golf course I noticed I had a small hole in knuckle of my finger And blood on my shorts. It was definitely about an inch long and the pain was very bad. The swelling and itching was quite uncomfortable for about a week. Not that this helps you discover what this was but I was moving at about 20 mph when it hit me. Left no stinger and swelling went to my wrist. Ice was the only thing that brought relief

I did talk to an employee at the Villages' area dog park where this happened.

He said he would relay the message and I had showed him the red spots on my leg where I got stung or bitten.

I did tell him that the flying bug I saw around was brown and yellow.

If you are looking for empathy, I can tell you that I was once stung by an Asian Hornet and my whole arm went numb for a couple hours. And I am not allergic to bee stings.
If you want sympathy, I hope you get better soon.
If you are looking on TOTV for advice, I would suggest that you go straight to the Villages ER when this happens. Of course, it may take a while for them to see you and they may quarantine you for two weeks. Seriously though, when this happens it won't hurt you to call an ER nurse for advice. They can probably give you the right answer with only a couple questions asked.

Fire ants nest in the ground , not in trees .....

Regarding "leaving the stinger" - only bees do that, and they die as soon as it happens, which is why an actual bee can only sting you once.

Wasps and hornets can sting you multiple times - precisely because they don't leave the stinger in your skin when they sting you.

Other insects and bugs can/will bite, but very few have stingers around here.

The most common critter that -might- be the culprit would be a red wasp. If their nest is disturbed or threatened they will sting pretty much anything nearby as a defense. They typically won't sting you if they're away from the nest and you're not swatting at them. But their sting, when they do sting, is incredibly painful, and yes they can sting more than once in rapid succession.

Since this happened at the dog park it's possible one of the pooches disturbed a nest near where you were standing/sitting. You'll usually find them up somewhere. Against the wall of a house that has an overhang with soffits, or near the roof supports of a public restroom, or in between the posts of a canopy. They can nest almost anywhere but that's where you'll see them most.

This dog park has a lot of trees and fencing for sections for different sized pooches and also has a 5 acre back field for exercise for all dogs.

I got stung while waiting for my dog Beau to cross a field. I was in a fenced in spot underneath the shade of a jacaranda tree. The tree is in another section -- for small dogs-- but its branches jut out over the exit waiting area.

I did talk to an employee there yesterday and he said someone will check for nests.

I thought I stepped on a fire ant but I was advised it was a wasp ant. It felt like I stepped on a piece of glass. The pain lasted for about a week.

I did go to this dog park this morning and did not see much of anything flying around. I did avoid going into the exit fenced in section where the jacaranda tree provides shade.
