I spoke to a CL agent today about billing and she told me that new DSL accounts are no longer being accepted in my area (around Southern Trace) due to aging infrastructure. She said availability might vary by address. The plan is to eventually upgrade the lines.

She was not familiar with The Villages but was just reporting what her account software told her, so who knows. But it's a bit worrisome because if true, the only option for new customers in the affected areas could be Comcast/Xfinity, and monopolies typically aren't good news for consumers.

On a positive note, my bill had been $77 and she readily switched me to the $49 for life plan when I asked for it.

I had CenturyLink and dropped them super faster, they use telephone lines for their internet service to the older area of the Villages..
I'm now using Comcast (Xfinity) for internet service with ATT as my TV provider...

Cable companies always seem to be able to get a monopoly or at least very limited competition.

We have three options, Spectrum, Xfinity and Century Link. I believe below 44 they have Xfinity and Spectrum so some areas have cable options.

When we moved here in Feb to Bonita we were told that our choice was Xfinity or Xfinity.

Was going to continue with Dish for tv but Xfinity gave us better price for bundling so went with them for all 3.

It does depend where you live
