Just discovered the news on "Youk"...devastating!

Sox have had one horrendous year for injuries...it's amazing they are still in the hunt with Yankees & Rays; but this one might be the straw that breaks their backs!

Injuries for Red Sox this season -

Youkilis - gone for season
Pedroia - out 8 weeks; may be back in August
Ellsbury - just returned after missing most of season
Beckett - just back after 2 months of back problems (ongoing)
Martinez - catcher #1
Varitek - catcher #2
Dice-K
Cameron
Lowell
Hermida

OK - I know, let's strike up the violins - there's no crying in baseball.:ohdear:

Injuries are a part of sports, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the cliche, but it's still a shame. Nobody wants a season decided by injuries, not even this Yankees fan.
We're hurting too but not as bad as the Sox. Let's hope you get your guys back. The late season battles between the Yankees and the Red Sox are probably the most exciting in baseball.

Sorry to say, it's not going to happen for Boston this year. When you have your starters on the bench, the writing is on the wall.

This year it will be about the Yanks and Tampa Bay. I love to see Boston and the Yankees play. I've spent many a day at Fenway and YS. If the Yanks or Boston are not in the world series, the season is over for me. I don't even watch--boring.

Yankees will be in the series though, so post season will be great.

I am a Yankee fan but after a while Tampa Bay grows on you. I was rooting for TB in the 2008 World Series. But then I always root for the AL team in the World Series - even the Red Sox.

Too bad they keep blacking Tampa Bay out up here.

As I've said before---- The only thing that I don't like about TV is that there are way too many Red Sox fans here.
Couldn't be happier about their present problems & hope that the Baltimore O's overtake them in the standings.
I do have to admit, however, that they are a great baseball franchise-- sold out at home for hundreds of consecutive games. Their fans support them, win or lose, rain or shine. Not like a lot of places, i.e. LA.

Red Sox fan here and I don't think they have a shot of making the playoffs they really needed to sweep the Yankees this weekend and lost today. Their relief pitching stinks and it seems like someone new gets hurt every week.

Isn't it football season anyway the Patriots first preseason game is this Thursday.

The Sox have little chance. I'm a lifelong Yankee fan, and I respect the Red Sox for being the best competition against my team over the past 30 years. Between injuries and tensions in the locker room (Big Papi getting "old"; Youkilis being out for the rest of the season (he's the heart of the team - and I'd love to have him on my team), and my favorite, Lowell, not being played as often as he'd like, all lead me to believe that the Red Sox are not going to recover. Add to that the Rays are the most aggressive/talented team in all of baseball, I just don't see the Red Sox coming back. But only baseball fans would understand - a good two weeks can bring you right back into the picture. I can't wish you good luck, but I can wish you recover from the injuries and give my team a race to the playoffs!

ps. there won't be too many Red Sox fans in TV until we have the Village of Fenway, the Village of Back Bay and the Village of Yawkey...I'd move immediately to Splendid Splinter Loop.

Obviously a Yankee Fan

Not necessarily!!!
Baseball lost a lot of good, hardcore fans in '94 because the strike wiped out the World Series. Left a bad taste. It took me a few years to come back & go to a live game.

As to the original question, I don't see why they can't hang in their and maybe come back; with their pitching staff.
I remember the ALCS in 2004 :shocked::shocked::shocked:
