While taking a swim I came up with two more categories, I don't know if I can edit the actual poll.

7. They mean well, but naively believe everything the media throws at them
8. Since they are in a high risk category themselves, they want the whole world shut down until they personally feel safe.

Today's society has no life skills direction or experiences.
They have been electronically raised by video games ,cell phones ,computers Twitter, Face Book.
They can't disseminate whats true or false only whats popular at the moment
They live in an imaginary life that doesn't exists only a fantasy they wish others to belive they are living
Make their existence more important they 're attempting to erase our past

My humble opinion is if those who believe this virus panic is being overblown had to pay the cost of it including stimulus payments, $600 unemployment bonuses, forgivable loans to all kinds of businesses, medical costs that taxpayers are on hook for, etc., instead of passing it on to their children and grandchildren they would indeed wear a mask and a paper bag over their heads for extra protection.

So far "something to do with November" has a narrow lead over "all of the above"

It's too bad I couldn't add a couple new ones, like this, which is my personal choice.

8. Since they are in a high risk category themselves, they want the whole world shut down until they personally feel safe.

Agree 100%. Guess he can not read what has happened to the death rate here in Florida. Attempt to be funny not working.

You mean the 132 deaths reported yesterday, "Florida's deadliest day ever"

Check the dashboard, only 17 actually died yesterday, the rest from earlier dates. You don't know the true death rate until about a month after the fact.

The death rate has ticked upward in the last month. You would expect that with so many new cases. But median age of new cases has been 35-40 so the people who are dying are the people in that age group that have pre existing health problems (healthy people under 50 rarely die) and older people who are out there mixing it up and taking too many chances.

I think this surge of new cases will peak before the end of the month and then start going down. We are not going to be another New York

No 17 people didn't die yesterday. 17 people died and their deaths were reported the first day. Reports of people that died July 14th will continue to come in for many days. In the end it will be a much larger number than 17. We do know the deaths reported during the last two days has averaged 120 a day. Since the number of cases has expanded in the last several weeks, it's likely the deaths will follow that pattern. Until we get it stabilized they will continue to rise.

Astonishing really that supposedly intelligent, educated people can argue with the scientific evidence out there, not to mention ignoring the fact that thousands in Italy, Spain, the UK AND the USA contracted this new virus and are now six feet under. Do you seriously believe the dead are ‘made up’?

I'm not making fun of people who wear masks. I am making fun of people who push pandemic panic to scare other people into wearing masks.

Personally, I don't use a mask because I don't go into any buildings other than my own home, and stay 20 feet from any people when I am outside my home. People that are older and have pre existing conditions who insist on going to supermarkets in person or eating in restaurants are, mask or not, taking bigger chances at catching or spreading the virus than I am. The cloth masks are not 100% effective so personally I do not take the risk. So who is acting in the safest manner????

Mask are not going to stop the virus, they may slow it down a bit, but it will spread until we reach herd immunity or an effective vaccine is developed.

That change is very troubling indeed. It makes all of us cringe to see those Covid-19 numbers not being handled by the CDC.

We need so badly to have valid numbers available to us for our decision making. Most of us understand that those in charge are facing two terrible calamities; The Pandemic and extreme collapse of the national economy which also will cause death and further calamity. Novembers decisions changed for me the second that government leaders downplayed medical science. A sad day indeed.

I think most of us STRONGLY wish that we were allowed to evaluate the situation like adults with valid numbers and reputable people in science and government helping us.

The CDC gets their case and death numbers from each state, they are just an aggregator. If you want data from Florida or any other state, just go to their site.

This is complete nonsense. The CDC just aggregates the numbers each individual State reports. Each State has it's own covid 19 data site. The numbers will continue to be available to everyone.

Perhaps you think all 50 states will engage in a conspiracy to lower their numbers?

LOL more panic being spread in a thread about why people spread it.

It doesn't matter. The States all have their own sites where data on cases, deaths, hospitalizations etc is published for all to see. I can find out everything that's happening in Florida without ever going to CDC website. THIS IS NOT GOING TO CHANGE

The CDC website is just an aggregator of data and it's actually quite cumbersome to use. I hope the new system allows me to search for things better. This whole theme that the data is going to be corrupted is a joke. Besides all the individual State websites that publish all relevant data, there are tons of independent sites that do a very good job of aggregating national data.

You do know that HHS oversees the CDC and always has right? It's nonsense to spread panic that the "numbers will be corrupted" because they are trying to streamline data reporting. Individual States will still publish all data on their own websites. That's where the numbers come from. Do you think all 50 states will conspire to corrupt the data?

You trivialize deaths from this illness, only 17 died yesterday I think we can all agree there are a lot of people dying regardless of the timing

You seem to trivialize the deaths of older people; are caused by their bad behaviors “mixing it up” and taking too many chances.

Lastly you dismiss the rapidly spreading virus with I think surge of new cases will peak before the end of the month

Suggest you get a new crystal ball, yours is as obscure as your logic

Just to be clear. 17 people have died from Covid-19 in The Villages since "they" started counting those deaths in March. They didn't die yesterday. All told.

Reading half the responses on here, it appears that Mass Hysteria is spreading it's ugly head. Gotta love the responses that suggest that they are "smarter and more educated" than you because they "believe" it is the end of the world.

I live in Sumter Co. and there have been 18 deaths total (or was it 17?). BUT, I believe there has only been 8 or 9 deaths in The Villages portion of Sumter Co. Not sure, because I have to rely on iffy reporting. 8 or 9 deaths in the past six months of this thing does not panic me. I wear my homemade mask like a good soldier and was even wearing gloves and eye protection when this thing started and we had less information to guide us. But, no matter how much precaution you take, there are always those that "KNOW" much more than us and are much more "educated" that will force their demands upon us, so as to protect them.

Infections go up as more testing data accumulates. That's just logical and for those that are "educated" it's "science." More importantly is the ratio of persons that test positive and are hospitalized and then add to that the amount of deaths and the actual dates of death. 8 or 9 deaths total suggests that we do not have as much problem here as in other areas, so we should look to see how we differ in our efforts. I shop about once a week for my spouse until things get better, but I see half of the other shoppers without masks. And yet, we still have a low mortality rate. Something to think about.

Then the ? becomes - who is the weaker individual - the happy talkers with spurs or the real majority that accepted their draft papers?

Hmm, sounds like someone is talking about politics, not the subject. Is that being allowed now?

Agree 100%. Guess he can not read what has happened to the death rate here in Florida. Attempt to be funny not working.

Thank you for your US Military service SeoulBrooks.

Florida had close to 14,000 cases recently in one day. How can "Bizzaro World" occupants deny that?

I don't know, since I do not read comic books. Infections do not mean fatalities or even hospital stays, does it? I apologize if I do not get hysterical when viewing stats of 9 deaths in the Villages portion of Sumter county. When I first came to The Villages, I subscribed to the Sun and occasionally browsed the obits section. There was way more than 9 deaths reported at any given day on that paper. Did I get hysterical? Naw, not even if I recognized someone I knew.
But, if it makes some on here feel better, we can all get together and do a chorus of "the sky is fallin'"

Three people died today of Covid-19 in The Villages part of the three counties. One in each county. That puts the total number in Sumter County who died of Covid-19 at nineteen people who reportedly died of this particular bug, in the hospital, on a ventilator, without the comfort of having someone who cares about them and knows them well holding their hand and suffering too.

We all know that we have far fewer days and months and years than we used to, but no one wants to die alone in a hospital. I don't want to die at all, and this damned Covid-19 is a big deal and a source of concern (not hysteria) for those who have treasured friends who matter to them and who are older too.

We all have heard all the punchlines to the ribald jokes about how we want to die. Me? I'm not going to if I can avoid it right now.

Yes, I realize that is the number for the whole county of Sumter. I was referring to the Villages portion of Sumter Co. I believe the number is 8 or 9 deaths. I am not making little of deaths. I am merely wondering what might those seniors in The Villages be doing that has kept them from dying, not becoming infected. Because according to the testing centers, it would seem like most of those tested seem to come back positive. Makes one wonder how many FALSE positives are being posted. Anyway, what is it that seniors here are doing that are keeping them alive? Can't say it is wearing of masks because half the people I run into when shopping are not wearing masks. Are they getting out and getting more sunshine and fresh air, maybe? To me, 9 deaths in a population this size is amazing, considering the seriousness of this illness.

The fact is that more testing equals more positive test results. More testing does NOT equal more deaths or hospitalizations. Does anyone consider that?

Simple facts (right?):
More testing has resulted in more positive results for infection.
More testing has NOT resulted in more hospitalizations.
More testing has NOT resulted in an increase in deaths.

Simple redneck summary:

The more test performed will increase the number of positive results for COVID infections.
The more tested will NOT necessarily increase the number of hospitalizations, although those with serious symptoms hospitalized will increase the totality of those tested positive.
The more tested positive reduces the ratio of deaths to infected.

Therefore, if other countries increase their testing, they will see a decrease in the ratio of deaths per infected.

Notice in this redneck calculation, I am not suggesting that deaths will decrease, just that the ratio of death to infected will decrease. Just numbers. Deaths are deaths and you can't change the raw number on that.

In order to make a decent calculation of how this virus is working, you would have to test everyone at the same time, and then test everyone again at another time. If you test a hundred today and then a hundred thousand tomorrow, you will have a spike in positive tests.....likely, unless the virus suddenly disappears.

The only sure statement of this virus is based on deaths, not tests and not infections. The only other stat that matters is how many hospitalizations, because if someone is infected does not mean they will be hospitalized. I've heard of folks being tested several times with negative results but have all the symptoms and many that have been tested many times with positive results with no symptoms.

But, I have gone off the subject which is why some folks spread panic.

You missed the everywhere news that the Glorida State Health Dept. has been VASTLY exaggerating COVID test positives and that labs have been reporting NO negatives. We are being scammed. (follow the money)

Scammed? Lol
This must be another hoax?

Even in this thread, the panic pushers push more panic while keeping this poll at the top of the front page. :bigbow:

So far "something to do with November" has a narrow lead over "all of the above"

It's too bad I couldn't add a couple new ones, like this, which is my personal choice.

8. Since they are in a high risk category themselves, they want the whole world shut down until they personally feel safe.. I agree on your choices 7 and 8.

Following this post life will not be too permanent. Not even as permanent as with this post.

There's at least one person who has changed their mind that Covid is a hoax and everyone is lying.

Chuck Woolery, who said 'everyone is lying' about COVID-19, reveals son tested positive (/entertainment/chuck-woolery-coronavirus-son-tested-positive-214332776.html)

revealed one day later his son tested positive. Then his Twitter account disappeared.

Apparently he has since deleted his tweeter account. I hope his son is eventually OK.

Everyone is totally focused on how many people die from COVID-19, Here is a little information for you about those that don't die.

For every one person who dies: of COVID-19

19 more require hospitalization.
18 of those will have permanent heart damage for the rest of their lives.
10 will have permanent lung damage.
3 will have strokes.
2 will have neurological damage that leads to chronic weakness and loss of coordination.
2 will have neurological damage that leads to loss of cognitive function.

So, to summarize - worldwide. The percentages roughly the same for the US.

03,282,000 people dead.
62,358,000 hospitalized.
59,076,000 people with permanent heart damage.
32,820,000 people with permanent lung damage.
09,846,000 people with strokes.
00,564,000 people with muscle weakness.
06,564,000 people with loss of cognitive function.

It might be time to think this is a little worse than the flu.

This is complete nonsense. The CDC just aggregates the numbers each individual State reports. Each State has it's own covid 19 data site. The numbers will continue to be available to everyone.

Perhaps you think all 50 states will engage in a conspiracy to lower their numbers?
No, but I think the current administration is trying to push the truth away from us.

Not nonsense. Some of the underhanded political machinations vis-a-vis the health of our citizens is more than complete nonsense; it's dangerous.

You have had a certain agenda for weeks. I think it is dangerous as well. That's my view and I'm sticking with it.

I guess you are one of those that think this is a hoax and don't wear a mask. Think again Bud. Listen to the science. I choose not to respond to your ridiculous survey. :ohdear:

Too late! You already responded. Do you think labs reporting 98% positive cases for those tested could be bull? When you don’t get the truth from the state and media there’s a problem.

While taking a swim I came up with two more categories, I don't know if I can edit the actual poll.

7. They mean well, but naively believe everything the media throws at them
8. Since they are in a high risk category themselves, they want the whole world shut down until they personally feel safe.

Let me add one.

9. Because the numbers are only going to climb unless everyone does the simple thing wear a mask.

Because I want my family and friends to survive this pandemic.

I want to be able to visit my Mom without exposing her to a deadly disease.

I want to help slow the spread so our economy will come back.

I don’t want to see our hospitals overwhelmed and refrigerator trucks lined up outside.

I want to be part of the solution. If the rest of the world can do it, so can we.

And I want to visit my husband in his care facility, hug him and stop crying because I miss him so damn much!

So, go ahead, call me selfish.

As long as all 14,000 were tested on the same day and all results are reported for the same day. But in reality it does not happen all in one day.

Those who have tested positive, are retested until 2 negatives are still counted as a positive for that day.

So even though one health care worker should only be counted once, system counts them each time for every positive test.

Until every person is assigned a number, similar to SS#. Is the only way an accurate count will happen.

How about none of the above....they are just scared to death for whatever reason, and they will share that with you, if you ask, or the subject comes up. I am not scared, but, I am cautious and respectful, so I try to avoid those that are not.
